VA VA- Unidentified 12-year-old abducted in Spotsylvania, 4 July 2013

Another posted an hour ago who lives in the neighborhood he has NOT been found. I hate when people post such things on fb.

I wonder if the perp might post such false info, (that he has been found) to discourage tips?

I think it is entire possible that he (if he's 12 or 13) could have scampered off to one picnic and his parents go to another. There are plenty of boys that age who would dress in red white and blue, especially if their friends were. It could be as easy as a Yankees shirt, you know? Or, doesn't Old Navy always have a 4th of July $5 buck shirt or some such?

I wonder if it's within the realm of possibility that he hasn't been reported missing because what the witness saw was "domestic". Maybe this boy has an angry, violent father or step-father, which is who she saw dragging him into the van? If the boy is afraid of him it might also explain why he yelled for help?

Yes, exactly. I have one kid who has red Nike kicks. Most of his shorts are blue, white or red, and his t-shirts are mostly white with whatever graphic.

:praying:

I have a 12 year old and a 13 year old. Both are with other people for the night- one with his friend's family one with my family. I try to let them become more independent but stories like this make it very difficult. :(

That's what I was thinking. The outfit also made me think that it's possible that his mom or someone still picks his clothes, because I don't know many 12 year old boys who would bother color-coordinating for a holiday, especially if he were going to be hanging out with friends. If mom did pick what he was wearing today, surely she cares enough to report him missing?

On the other hand, how many kids do you think are out and about today wearing red, white, and blue? Maybe his parents have seen the description, think he's out on his own, and haven't yet put two and two together based on the news reports. It's after 10:30 PM there, though, so I'd think someone would be noticing his absence sometime pretty soon.

I REALLY hope that this is just some teens and preteens being dumb.

Unless there was something going on in the area...for example, I live in a small town, 4th of July around here is HUGE...parade in the morning, activities all day at the park, and fireworks at night...pretty much everybody from age 2-92 is dressed in red, white, and blue, around here today....

then again, also makes you wonder with all the commotion going on around there why nobody has reported him missing....then again like it has been speculated around here, maybe the parents are out of town or not "expecting him home"....man I hope this turns out positive.

Another less nefarious possibility. Perhaps this boy is on the spectrum and wandered away. And it was his parents finding him and he screamed because of sensory issues and the change in routine.

(You'll soon learn, I try to find the happiest possible theory to all of these situations. I'm never right, but some day I will be, gosh darn it.)

This sounds like the opening scene to a four hour lifetime movie based on a real story. I very much hope this doesn't turn into anything that big or that bad but it surely doesn't feel good right now.

Not much new on the news. They said the man is thought to be 25-30 and his pants looked to be painters pants. Also his van has two doors that open in the back but only the left door has a window in it. They also said the suspect opened up the passenger door and grabbed the child. So...I wonder if he is alone or has help? How is he controlling this child while driving if he is acting alone?

Bless you! I'd love a world where everything is rosy. I know it's not reality, but I do try to give most people benefit of the doubt. I'm not quick to jump on the bandwagon of the family did it unless it's painfully obvious.

That was the first thing that came to mind for me too

If the man drove away speeding through several stop signs then I feel that the driver was trying to leave the scene ASAP. I can't see this as anything but bad news, IMO.

http://news.fredericksburg.com/newsdesk/2013/07/04/spotsy-investigating-possible-abduction/

" At a news briefing Thursday night, Pearce provided a more detailed description of the van. He said it was medium blue, with two doors opening on the rear. The door on the left had a tinted window; the right one did not. There was a primer spot on the right side and a decal was on the bottom left door.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic male, in his mid-20s or 30s, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, and about 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a black tank top and black cargo painter’s pants that were dirty and stained.

Meanwhile the boy was described as “very, very slight,” 5-foot-2 with brown hair in a Justin Bieber-style haircut. He was wearing a red-and-white striped shirt and blue cargo pants.

The boy was seen riding the black bicycle with a flat tire earlier in the day, Pearce said. As the man was trying to grab the boy, Pearce said the boy was hanging on to the bike."

<snip>

" Police weren’t ruling out that the incident could also have been a parent trying to corral a child refusing to cooperate.

“It’s OK. We need to know that, as well,” Pearce said, hoping someone would provide more information."

I haven't chimed in until now- but I have a gut feeling that there is no crime here. I think this is 'domestic' - and the blowing stop signs? Something my dad would totally do if his temper got the better of him.

BUT- I'm curious as to why someone has not reported that unique van and had the police investigate. But maybe, with it being a holiday, people are not watching/ listening to the news.

From my link a couple of posts above -

"[A neighbor] said her baby sitter may have seen him riding a bike with a distinctive sound of flat tires earlier that day."

Hm. So he may have been hanging around the neighborhood (rather than passing through) - so, maybe lived there or maybe was visiting... not much to go on but it's something.

If the kid was having a tantrum and was prone to self harm because of his being on the spectrum, I could totally see blowing stop signs (if you looked both ways), ESPECIALLY if you were alone with him. Sometimes the only thing that calms some spectrum kids down is getting back to a very familiar place with their security items and sensory deprivation.

I have that same feeling.
