VA VA- Unidentified 12-year-old abducted in Spotsylvania, 4 July 2013

I hope this is a case of a parent /kid issue.

Does anyone have a description of the kid? I saw clothing information released.

Smith station is a busy road and kids are always riding down it . If I caught my kid riding a bike on that road I would be pretty mad. Maybe that is what hopefuly happened.

So this kid has been missing for 9 hours now, and we still don't know who he is? No parents have reported their child missing? No one in the neighborhood recognized him? This one is incredibly strange and worrying. Hoping we get answers soon, and that this boy is alright.

ETA: Even if it does turn out that this man was one of his parents, I hope someone comes forward to let LE know. LE have already spent a lot of effort looking for this boy, but I'm sure they'd much rather know that he is safe than keep searching when he's actually at home. Is there any possibility that there are people in the area who are not aware there is a missing child?

It seems like most of them are strange these days.

Yes ,it is very possible people in the area have no clue.

I live a very close to this neighborhood and the only reason I know about it is because ,my friend saw SAR going to the scene on her way to my house . She only mentioned it to me because she knows I follow missing people cases and often tell her about local cases so she thought I would be interested. So I went looking for infor on why all the cops were heading down Smith station rd.

I have not seen any local post anything on facebook ,no one has called me to tell me anything nor have I gotten any text.

A 12-year-old boy was abducted in Spotsylvania County Thursday afternoon and authorities are on the lookout for blue work van in connection with the kidnapping.

Spotsylvania authorities say the boy, who was wearing a red and white blue stripped shirt, was taken at about 1:30 p.m. near Smith Station Road and Holleybrooke Drive.

BBM ugh, like that doesn't describe a TON of people on the 4th. I hope he's found safe and soon!

=[ why hasn't anyone reported this child missing?!

I'm thankful for the witness who was concerned enough to report what she saw right way. Otherwise, we might not know about this poor kid. Where are his parents???

OK. Time to take off my polly sunshine hat.

There's could be another reason he hasn't been reported missing...

if the people who would have reported him missing are deceased somewhere and not yet discovered.

IE Custody case, disgruntled parent kills other disgruntled parent and then goes and finds the kid... or someone killed the parents to get the kid.

Or his parents could be out of town or even at a 4th party ,or home assuming he is in his room sleeping.

The kidnapper could be sending text messages like everything is okay to the boys parents .

Or it could be a hoax. Which I hope it is. I hope The sheriff dept has more info and we just dont know it.

I have been following off and on through out the day and cannot believe the boy has not been reported missing. I sure was hoping to come in tonight and find this resolved and the child safe.

Could it be the neighborhood kids did not recognize him because he is visiting a parent on summer visitation? If its a long distance non custodial (if thats the right term) single parent who is working and sleeping or celebrating the 4th, I might believe the child not noticed missing. I am worried for this young one.

I'm worried too. I've very surprised he's not yet been reported missing, surely someone will notice he's missing sometime very soon? I honestly thought we'd have an ID by now. I don't believe it's a hoax, LE have said that the witness is credible, and at this stage I'm willing to believe that they've thoroughly checked into this.

With it being 4th of July, it's possible his parents are at a friends place and he was supposed to be visiting friends and spending the night, but wouldn't the friends parents realize he was missing? Unless he had told his parents he was staying at a friends when he really just wanted to roam the streets... but I just can't see a kid this age wanting to spend the afternoon on his own instead of with a friend. It's so frustrating, nothing really makes sense at the moment.

necco - I really hope you're wrong with your theory (anti-polly sunshine hat), although it would explain why no one has reported him missing. But why kill the parents/caregivers if the kid wasn't even home in the first place? Surely it would be much easier to just go out and find him.

At this stage I'm still leaning towards a random abduction due to opportunity, but I don't really know what's making me think this way.

Another possibility. He/she has already been reported missing and was in the midst of getting away. Stopped to check bike to take and get away faster...tire was flat. Kidnapper(s) catches up to him/her and re-kidnaps next to bike.

I was going to post exactly that. Riding a bike with two flat tires makes me think he was desperate to get somewhere, or get away from somewhere. He could be missing from another state, and the parents haven't heard about this incident. I'm going to check out missing boys 10-14 y.o.

It bothers me, this being a holiday weekend and also being summer break. It is possible this child was not in his normal surroundings and may also be a female. jmo

He/she could be visiting for the weekend or summer.

A couple of years ago, there was a scenario like this and it was at Walmart. Turns out, the family was moving to another state, and the girl didn't want to go. She was running from them. They grabbed her and threw her in a van and the cameras caught it. I just think it's a family thing. If so, it still needs to be checked out. JMO

This child was yelling "help me." Not sure if that changes anything?

I doubt this is family because of leaving the bike there. Most parents are not going to leave a bike, flat tires or not

Ugh, so close to home! My coworker lives in the neighborhood across Smith Station Road from Holleybrooke.

Here is a casemap...

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msi...ll=38.250078,-77.561417&spn=0.020423,0.038581

I based the abduction point off of photos and video. While the neighborhood he was taken from is at the intersection of Smith Station Road and Holleybrooke Drive, the bike is shown to be just south west of the intersection of Holleybrooke Drive and Heavenwood Court.

My confusion, beyond the obvious ones, is also that the neighbor, who was on the porch of a house 6 houses down from the site, claims that the van ran 2 stop signs after grabbing the boy. Unless there have been additional stop signs installed on Holleybrooke since September 2012, there is only one stop sign, at Cedar Post Lane, until you get to Smith Station Road, but there is no way that she could see that far down the road to know whether the driver blew through the stop sign there. That would be the most direct route out of the neighborhood from the abduction site. There are no other stops signs that she would have been able to see from her vantage point, unless additional ones have been installed, since September.

There are 2 entrances into the neighborhood and several different paths the driver could have taken to get to the abduction site, but the driver would have had to come down Holleybrooke, as the street at the intersection is a cul-de-sac.
