Noon news update.... no new news. It bothers me that they aren't considering this could be a girl. Perhaps this witness saw the child as he passed by or something. jmo

I think this either didn't happen at all, or it will be a case of this child's parents calling the kid's house he was going to spend the night with and that kid's parents saying, "what? I didn't know he was supposed to be here!" or saying that when the kid never showed up, her own child just assumed the kid changed his mind about the sleepover.

Or maybe they were both in the van and stopped to look at the bike to see if it was in trash to be picked up. No way anybody could see that far and give so much detail of the driver. The first report said he leaned over and grabbed the child from the driver's seat. The other report states he got out and went around. Somebody is wrong.

Spotsy abduction investigation intensifies

0705bike.jpg

Police have released this photo of a bicycle that the boy was believed to have been riding yesterday. According to Capt. Pearce, the child was using the bicycle to defend himself from the abductor.

Officials say they are still looking for the child and blue work van that are cited in the possible abduction from yesterday, nearly 24 hours later. That description is key, Capt. Jeff Pearce says. They don’t expect to give any further updates today unless the case is resolved. More to come.

Authorities Investigate Possible Abduction in Spotsylvania County
Witness: Man grabbed boy and forced him into a van before taking off at a high rate of speed

Multiple neighbors told police they'd seen the van in the area several times over the past week.

They also said they've seen both the child and his bicycle before.

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/l...duction-in-Spotsylvania-County-214308491.html

So multiple people have seen both the suspect vehicle and the child with the bicycle previously.

So now the boy was using the bike to try to defend himself? I'm at a loss here. I'm lost as to why nobody is missing him, and at this point I'm somewhat at a loss as to why the witness had enough time to note the alleged kidnapper's 2 tone hair, height, weight, full description of the boy and the van, yet never left her porch and yelled or did something to try to stop it.

Sigh......

Mystery over 'missing' boy in Virginia

Capt. Jeff Pearce with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office tells WTOP the witnesses -- a man and a woman -- are standing by their story.

Pearce says the boy also reportedly was trying to defend himself with his bicycle, and the door he was dragged through was flapping open when the van drove away.

"Both the vehicle and the child had been seen in the neighborhood in the past week, but nobody had seen that child in that vehicle," Pearce says.

Thanks for the summary Hollye! I can't believe someone could see stains on a black tank top from 6 houses away!

Okay, I just rewatched the video speaking with the lady that was 6 houses away.

http://www.wtop.com/120/3379863/Mystery-over-missing-child-in-Virginia

I need to amend what I have on my map, as well as what I said earlier.

The lady, WL, stated that she saw the boy earlier, while sitting on her neighbor's porch (the porch 6 houses away), riding by on the bike with flat tires. She is NOT the one who claims to have seen the actual abduction occur.

respectfully snipped

Sounds very odd - reminds me a bit of the recent case where a young girl supposedly approached a car driver for help, then ran off into the woods. No one reported her missing, and I don't think she was ever identified ..... or even if it was ever verified that this actually happened?

This reminded me of that as well.

There is something very similar about the vehicle description (and perp) to me...maybe I came across something similar recently when researching attempted abductions? (Thinking about this...edit: it must've been when I was researching vans in Jessica Heeringa's case)

Re: the chantily abduction, perp has similar description...(distance?)

Glad to see this case is being taken very very seriously.

Sounds like a possible random abduction to me. As to why the child hasn't been reported missing yet I don't know.

Keep those great ideas coming everyone!! If this is an abduction, then we are losing time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, I think this may be a case of child abuse at the hands of a family member. IMO it's the only solid explanation for why the child has not been identified yet.

Either that or the whole thing is a hoax...

  • #196
I fully expected to see someone come forward and report their child missing. This is very puzzling.

  • #197
This one seems to have a more detailed description of the suspect. http://www.wric.com/story/22763002/possible-abduction-reported-in-spotsylvania

Says the boy, estimated age 10 to 12 years, was wearing shorts...

Also says that the suspect was seen getting out of the passenger side of the van and pulling the child into the vehicle. And adds the description of the van as having a ladder rack, but no ladders.

Ok I hope this is not taken wrong and I don't say it where it is read innapropriately but does anybody else find it ODD that the suspect has been described as HISPANIC with TWO TONE DIRTY BLOND HAIR???? Not to say it is IMPOSSIBLE but of all the hispanic people I know the men do not tend to 1) have blond hair or 2) dye their hair blond. I am thinking it could be a white guy with a dark tan (not unheard of right now in the middle of summer) who from a distance appears to be "dark toned" (such as a hispanic)

oh and sorry for the spelling error...I am a bit new to posting on here and can't seem to locate the spell check

Wow! So now there are several witnesses. The van and the boy on the bike have been seen before. If the boy has been seen in the area before, somebody must know him. Or did both man in the van and the boy on the bike show up in the area recently?

Do we have anybody local posting here? Are there any street cameras or businesses that would have security cameras in the area? Is LE looking into that?

The bike looks pretty old/worn. Is that common for children in the area? Or would he have stood out riding around on an old worn out bike? The man was reported as being in dirty/stained clothes. What about the boy? His hair sounds a bit long, was it shabby? Where his clothes also worn/old/dirty?

  • #199
I am going to hopefully err on the side of taking this as 100% a valid abduction. I hope this is all a misunderstanding.

LE has more than likely verified all the persons (neighbor) giving the witness accounts. They would have checked her background or any mental health issues, etc...they referred to her as a credible witness. There are more witnesses to the child being in the neighborhood with the bike-unlike the hoax mentioned above with a single witness.

I find it plausible a neglectful parent may not know their own child is missing. We have no idea what type of home life this child has. A drug addicted mother/father might leave the area for the long holiday weekend. People on a binge would not be paying attention to the news. My point is really just I find it worrisome the parent/parents havent noticed the child missing but think there are plenty of reasons this is possible.

Hope I am wrong. I am so worried for this child.
