VA VA- Unidentified 12-year-old abducted in Spotsylvania, 4 July 2013

I had thought that maybe the families immigration status could be preventing them from contacting the authorities.

If you look at streetview from the location of the witness, who was on the porch, according to her report, and then look down to the abduction site, that is quite a distance. I would not have been able to clearly tell much of what happened.

Here is a visual...

IIRC, the "porch" witness is a different person than the woman who actually witnessed the abduction. I'll try to find a link.

I'm cautiously keeping an eye on this reported abduction. It may be a hoax, but what if it's not? Remember the neighbor reports of the girls held by Castro? Also, the abduction witness description yesterday said "very, very slight". Wondering if that means malnourished? At this point my mind is taking me to many possible scenarios, none of which are good.

ETA-Sorry Hollye, just catching up. Saw you re-watched video and know there are multiple witness'.

The suspect in the investigation is described as wearing a dark tank top and dirty pants. Police say he is a Hispanic male, standing 5'10" to 6' tall and weighing 180-200 pounds. The witness said his clothes were dirty, which may be due to several construction projects in the neighborhood.

Officers are searching for a blue full-size work van that has two rear doors. The right rear door has a missing window and the left rear door has a tinted window. Witnesses say they had seen van in the neighborhood several times this week.

The above is worrisome, reads like a crime of opportunity, predator saw the boy and acted. But wouldn't you think the van is distinctive enough that someone would say, hey so and so has a van like that and call in a tip?

My coworker lives in the neighborhood across Smith Station Road from Holleybrooke. She doesn't generally venture over in to the Holleybrooke neighborhood, but said a few things.

The neighborhood has a well established population of children that seem to spend a lot more time outside than the kids in her neighborhood. There is some sort of construction/dirt path area behind the Holleybrooke neighborhood that the boy could possibly have been riding on before the abduction, as it appears his bike tires are really dirty with dried mud. We think one of the entry points to that area may be a path off of Cedar Post Lane at the end of Crestwood Drive. There is also a creek back there that may entice kids to ride their bike through.

If the kid was bike riding back in that construction area, then possibly the worker worked back there and had been watching the boy for a while.

I will update the map with those points.

Just want to throw this out: I, personally, think this is either a hoax or a mistaken witness situation (innocent). HOWEVER, I commend LE and the community for the level of involvement. They have been on point from the get-go. The response and effort have been top-notch!

Spotsy abduction investigation intensifies

"There was a primer spot on the right side, as if it recently been repaired, and a decal was on the bottom left door."

This is the most detailed description I have ever seen. From the exact clothing of the child with a Justin bieber haircut to the height/weight of a Hispanic man with blond two toned hair, exact clothing description as well as that his pants were dirty, plus the vehicle info down to paint spots and decals. :O

Anyone know what type of construction is going on (road, utility, etc.)?

Is Hollybrooke in city limits or un-incorporated county?

Hope you're right!

OT- love the name change

Without binoculars I have no idea how you could get this detailed if a description of the boy, the alleged perp and the van. Nevermind the fact this would've happened pretty fast.....

It's entirely possible that the witness has 20/20 or better vision especially with more and more people getting Lasik vision correction surgery.

The witness could also be farsighted...my father doesnt see well at all closeup but has made shots from a couple hundred yards away that seem impossible to the average person.

People have a tendency to evaluate the capability of others by their own abilities. In other words, it's hard for a lot of people to think someone might be smarter or more gifted physically than they themselves are.

I really hope this is a hoax or a misunderstanding of a situation. My overactive imagination has gone into overdrive and now I keep thinking maybe the child hasn't been reported missing because the parent(s) has/have been murdered and not found yet. :(

This doesn't seem to be a hoax or misinformation to me. Hope I'm wrong.

Pearce said that police spent several hours with the key witness, and have no reason to doubt the person’s description, though he added that they’re not saying the details are 100 percent accurate. He said that the best advice for those who witness a potential crime would be to snap pictures or video on a cell phone camera. Pearce would not say if the witness did that in this case.

UPDATE: (12:18 p.m.) Police have released this photo of a bicycle that the boy was believed to have been riding yesterday. According to Capt. Pearce, the child was using the bicycle to defend himself from the abductor.

Officials say they are still looking for the child and blue work van that are cited in the possible abduction from yesterday, nearly 24 hours later. That description is key, Capt. Jeff Pearce says. They don’t expect to give any further updates today unless the case is resolved. More to come.

FWIW the van has been referred to as both a "work" van and also as a "construction" van.

Also another thought as far as the detailed information (which is quite specific I might add) there is always a chance the witness is TRAINED to notice things such as this (ie cop, private investigator, even store security). If that is the case as soon as they realized something wasn't right their instinct to "gather information" is going to kick in. Keep in mind I have see several accounts where they describe the witness as a "credible witness". This could be because the witnesses credentials are such that he/she is TRAINED to take note of this type of information...JMO

With the diligent neighborhood canvassing in place by all the agents on the scene, one would think they would have found the residence where this boy is staying / visiting / or living (esp if he was seen on a bike earlier---he couldn't be that far from home?). I'm guessing maybe there are some residences at which nobody answered the door? The agents would have to keep following up at these residences. Maybe they can track down the homeowners who haven't answer their door yet for whatever reason via property records (they would also be able to see from the info gained through the property records if anyone has a child of that age listed) and try to reach them via telephone.

Great have you on this case Hollye! Thanks again!
