VA VA- Unidentified 12-year-old abducted in Spotsylvania, 4 July 2013

Any summer camps in the area the kid might've bailed on? (Another explanation as to why maybe the parents don't know the kid is missing...but one would think the camp would notice the child missing)...
:banghead:

Hopefully there will be a presser soon!

The Justin Beiber haircut (and slight build) makes me wonder if he is younger than estimated. My students grow out of their Justin Beiber phase fairly quickly. Some of the older kids think its not cool to like Justin Beiber.

I just had a thought. What if the kid had already been previously taken and had managed to get away. Then the guy in the van found him again and grabbed him. Could explain why no one has reported a missing kid locally. MOO

This! Brings to mind Kyron Horman. He'd be 10 now, a little young for the description though.

Uhmmm ... we have two different descriptions of the shirt the person who grabbed the boy, was wearing.

In post number #4 on this thread, it was described as:

"wearing a white open neck undershirt with dark pants or jeans."

But now the description of the shirt is:

"wearing a dirty/stained black tank top and dirty/stained cargo painter pants."

BBM: There's a big difference between 'white' and 'black'.

just wanted to put this out there, in my neighborhood there are a good many Hispanic people..most of the men are in construction, sheet rock, painting etc.. on any given day they will stand outside of the home improvement stores by the hundreds waiting for someone to hire them in the parking lot..JMO but this may be a good place to look for this van

Sounds like a painter possibly, construction guy for sure.
(still looking at possible construction sites, knox!)

Could there have been more than one (alleged) abductor?

This reminded me of that as well.

There is something very similar about the vehicle description (and perp) to me...maybe I came across something similar recently when researching attempted abductions? (Thinking about this...edit: it must've been when I was researching vans in Jessica Heeringa's case)

Re: the chantily abduction, perp has similar description...(distance?)

Glad to see this case is being taken very very seriously.

Sounds like a possible random abduction to me. As to why the child hasn't been reported missing yet I don't know.

Keep those great ideas coming everyone!! If this is an abduction, then we are losing time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 hour and 20 minutes

Maybe the boy was trying to escape from an abusive situation, but was discovered and re-kidnapped?

"Witnesses say they had seen van in the neighborhood several times this week."

This is troubling, IMO. (Where exactly in the neighborhood? In front of a particular house? Street? LE would have the answer to this.

Any homes for sale in the neighborhood? Make readies? Foreclosures? New construction?

Construction is likely the key here!!

"The witness said his clothes were dirty, which may be due to several construction projects in the neighborhood."

Maybe an older sibling is supposed to be watching this kid, and for whatever reason took off with friends or something and left him alone and doesn't know he's missing yet (or doesn't want to get in trouble---If this were the case, surely the sibling would be more concerned about finding his brother/sister than getting in trouble and would report it!)

I am going out on a limb here and going to assume he is not from that neighborhood. If you "drive" through on google maps there are several houses on all the streets many of which have a basketball net, bikes, kids toys etc...so far no kids in the neighborhood have said "oh yeah, that sounds like so and so" especially since another poster has suggested that the neighborhood is known to have kids who play outside.....where are you from kid?? and where were you going?

another thought....I see there is a homeowners association right at the entrance of the nieighborhood there. Is there a community pool as well?? Can anybody be a member or is it for residences only???

If that van has been seen around the neighborhood lately perhaps because he is working in the area it should be back today unless the person took a "long weekend"....maybe by Monday he will be spotted again if he is in fact a local construction guy.

Re: the perp if this is indeed a random abduction:

Chances are he might likely have some minor injuries to his face / hands / arms (scratches) and a BITE MARK since the witness saw him biting him. This is very important evidence!!!

<slightly o/t: "Spotsylvania" is an odd name / word.>

With the prompt response by the FBI, all the other resources, witnesses, media attention, etc., I'm anticipating the van will be located soon, especially since the description is somewhat unique ("sky blue") and has some unique markers (primer, limited tinting, decal, etc.).

Hopefully the boy will be identified and safe today! Lots of agents are out there working this on all levels as we speak; hopefully they have found something of significance on surveillance or traffic cams (it takes time to find and review these), and can at least provide a direction in which the vehicle was headed once it left the neighborhood.

I'm expecting a swift resolution to this case (like today!), but then again I thought the same about Jessica Heeringa's case since there were also witnesses to the perp, an immediate response by LE to the location, a suspect sketch, footage of the vehicle, media attention etc., but yet we don't know more today then we knew then and Jessica is still missing and so is that darn 2005 Silver Chrysler Town and Country Van!

Thoughts:

Maybe he looks younger than he is because he's so skinny.

Maybe he had run away in the past and his parents are thinking he will turn up again on his own.

Maybe he ran away and lied to his parents that he has a sleepover with a friend. (In another thread here on WS the 13 y/o girl did just that. Mother only realized she had run away 2 days later.)

Maybe ran away from a foster home and there are too many children and the foster parents are not on top of the situation. Maybe the other children are covering for him.

None of those are acceptable reasons for why this child is apparently missing but STILL unreported, IMO. What, parents just take their kids' word for it that they have a sleepover, and don't bother to check with the other parents to make sure it's actually a mutually agreed upon event? My mom always did. And the foster parent scenario? I doubt it. The thing is that it's been over 24 hours now, and even if the other kids are covering, or the parent thought their child was at another person's house for a sleepover... don't the parents start to think, "hmm... maybe my kid has worn out their welcome and I should make arrangements to pick them up or call to have them sent home?"

Maybe this perp targeted this kid bc he noticed the kid was alone a lot and/or somehow knew he didn't have much supervision?

Maybe he even worked in his home.

New carpet? Movers? Repair man? Landscaper?
