VA VA- Unidentified 12-year-old abducted in Spotsylvania, 4 July 2013

The 4 o'clock news with new video came on a while ago on NBC, but family came home from the pool right at that time. I don't see it online yet.

The news crew tried to talk with the female witness, a black woman, appeared to be in her 30s. They indicated that she had just arrived home and had been at the police station most of today. She did not want to speak to the press, understandably.

I was able to figure out where she lives and indicated it on the map. Her house is 3 houses north west on Holleybrooke of the abduction site, still a ways away for a good visual, IMO, but much better than where I originally thought and she would have likely had a good view of the back of the van, as the boy was being put in, if the vehicle was traveling away from her house.

I thought he was pulled into the vehicle from the front passenger side door? Or did that story change too?

Quoting from LE pressor; the man exited his vehicle, grabbed the boy and put him in the van.

VSP cancels search for missing boy, Spotsylvania still investigating

Virginia State Police have called off the search for a missing boy in Spotsylvania.

VSP canceled the alert because no one stepped forward to identify the child.

The Spotsylvania Sheriffs Office said they will continue to search for the boy, take hotline calls and investigate any leads. Once they have exhausted all leads, they will scale down the search.

I am having a hard time picturing a work van where one door has a window but the other doesn't....usually those "work type" "construction type" (non-coversion) vans have a window on each side or no windows in the back at all...for all the times I have been behind a work style van I can not honestly recall ever seeing one with only one window....the aesthics alone would be "ugly and off" (not to sound shallow).

The news just came on again and the reporter said that the right door was missing a window.

That is the 1st I have heard of that! I wonder what is accurate...

My mind keeps going back to Shawn Hornbeck in this case. I would hope by now that LE have cross referenced missing children over the past years that would fit the description.

I really don't believe this is an actual abduction. Too much description. I am glad they are taking all precautions though just in case and man do I hope my gut is right and that little boy(if there ever one) is just fine

Too much description and too much changing of details in that description!

News again - black bike, worn & rusted, back tire flat

Several neighbors told reporter that they saw the boy riding the bike down the street yesterday.

Witness mother said today that witness wanted to share her story, but when she returned from several hours of questioning, she seemed angry and distraught. She said she can't help the news person with "that". She went through this all yesterday and today is her kids' 4th of July and she's spending it with them. She was pleasant, but looked tired.

From this link:

"The witness told police he saw a boy trying to get away on a bike, when a man dragged him into a van. The van then sped through a stop sign and hasn't been found since."

They must have changed the article, as I don't see that. Is it the right article?

Well, if the alert is cancelled...what does that mean?

According to the news, VA State Police is pulling back, but Spotsylvania County Police will continue to investigate and explore all avenues. I think the alerts are issued through the state police, so if they pull out, then their alert is cancelled.

I know this is off the wall, but.... Many years ago the house next door to me was a rental property. The renter was a man, and another man used to visit frequently. The guys looked creepy to me. A couple of times on a weekend, I saw a little boy about 8 get in a car with his "Dad". In the middle of the night, once, I thought I heard a child screaming. After I gathered my thoughts and figured out it wasn't a dream I called the police. They came out, questioned the guy, and told me it was more or less Dad having visitation. Well, "Dad" moved out in the middle of the night a couple of days later. That little boy's screams haunt me to this day. You can't convince me that there wasn't something nefarious going on.
That incident has stuck in my brain and I often wonder how many other creeps are out there doing the same thing off the grid.

This is scary and I really hope they find the boy! The van was blue.

A frantic search is being carried out today after a boy was seen yelling for help as he was dragged into a van on Independence Day.

'We have several similar descriptions of that van as well as credible information to make us believe this is an abduction.'
The van had been seen in the neighborhood several times in the past week, according to NBC 12.

According to media reports, a witness told police she saw the van pull up next to the boy Thursday afternoon. She said a man got and pulled the boy against his will into the van and speed off.

The boy is described as 12 to 13 years old with light brown hair. He was wearing a red and white striped shirt with blue cargo pants.

Police are looking for a Hispanic man in his mid-20s or 30s, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, and about 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a black tank top and dirty black cargo painter's pants. The van has a primer spot on the back.

I wish someone would post a sketch of the boy... no real description beyond his hair and slight build. Maybe he was a runaway from a different area and the parents have not seen it on the news ( I have mainly seen it here on WS... not much in MSM)
I dont believe the situation is a hoax. If multiple people have seen the boy and the van recently, it would be quite a coincidence for both to 'disappear' at the same time. The description of the van could be as clear as it is because neighbors took notice of it multiple times recently, maybe it looked suspicious to them. Ditto with the boy.
I do wonder if they were together before this, which would explain why they both showed up in the neighborhood at the same time...

The response to this case was darn near immediate it seems... With it being a holiday yesterday, I would think more officers were out on patrol. The woman presumably called 911 immediately after the child was taken. The description of the vehicle went out to all of the officers, and it is a very OBVIOUS sounding van! A sky blue colored van with bondo, some tinting on some windows? One window in the back on one door but not the other, I mean COME ON!!! I think that if this van actually existed, it would stand out like a sore thumb and would have been spotted quickly.

Too much description and too much changing of details in that description!

The different details is what IMO makes it true. People remember things wrong & differently,
