I thought they said his hair went half-way down his neck. I know it was called a Justin Bieber type cut at least once. MOO

Which confuses me because a bieber hair cut is short. ??

He USED to have long-ish hair that looked like someone combed it while spinning him on a chair (before he became a punk and full of himself)

I still am of the opinion that there has been NO abduction- what the witness saw was an errant kid being hauled home by his parent, if anything. MOO and all that jazz

Thanks, sorry for the redherring. I thought they said his BACK.

Sounds to me as if it might be possible that this kid was at the job site while his step dad worked. With school being out for summer, its possible that his parents didnt want to leave him alone.

If he wandered off from the construction site and the man had to look for him afterwards it might explain why he appeared to be angry and snatched the child inside the van.

Police should contact local builders, especially those with projects in the immediate area and ask if anyone is driving a work van that fits that description.

It won't surprise me if it does turn out to be the case, though that very similar case only an hour away does make me think twice.

That's what I thought someone said too! And then people started talking about how it could be a girl. :waitasec:

Has anyone considered that he could be a homeless boy/child/teen?

Look here:

http://news.fredericksburg.com/news...lation-includes-more-than-850-schoolchildren/

And I'm not talking of those who live with their families on the street, but children who are alone, or a group of teens and pre-teens, who live alone, but stick together.

It would explain no one reporting him missing.

There are kids that age near here whose parents will leave for vacations and leave them alone - stocking up the fridge a little and other than that, the kids are just basically free to roam. Looking through this neighborhood there are very nicely well kept homes and lawns, and some look kind of sketchy. It seems likely this boy's parents have gone off on a vacation and he's fending for himself. I don't really suspect he's living in community with other kids - it seems that would stand out there where it wouldn't in a very urban setting. I mean - if you don't drive, it would be hard to get food. THere are mothers who remarry and their new husbands basically force the step kids to life feral lives.

Not sure if anyone has brought this up yet, if so, I apologize. If people in the area had only seen the boy and the man in the past few weeks, maybe they are father and son, but drifters. Maybe the boy wasn't where he was supposed to, and dad had to get to a new job, which was why he was so angry when he pulled him in to the car. If they have left the area they may not realize how much time and effort is being put into finding this boy, they could be somewhere far away where this isn't receiving any coverage.

The fact that this boy hasn't been reported missing makes me feel that he probably doesn't have any family in the area. Also, if none of the children in the area know him, he can't have lived there for long.

ETA: If he does have family that have left him home alone for the weekend, we should be hearing within the next few day or so about a missing child. I'm really hoping this isn't the case, and this boy is actually fine and on the road with his dad.

Hi Jeanna, Where is "here"? Are you local to this case? There are laws in place to protect children. In many states in the US, there are laws that it is illegal to leave a child alone before they are 12 years old. Once they reach age 12, it is only alright to leave them alone for a certain number of hours during the day/early evening. I am not sure what states carry those laws or if they are still in effect.

This boy has been described as between 10 and 12 years old. This is way too young to be left alone to fend for himself for even a day, not to mention a long weekend.

My son is almost 13, most of the boys in his old school have shaggy/longish hair. So glad he likes his short! but no, i dont think schools can require a certain hairstyle.

if he's even enrolled in a school... homeschooling is quite popular these days. especially if you want to stay off the radar.

I homeschool now but previously mine attended private schools. He's always had long hair. He's had dreads since he was 5 years old, been growing them for 10 years now:)

I guess long is in the eye of the beholder? My next door neighbor thinks hair can not and must not reach the collar!

Combed while spinning... Hilarious!

I'm hoping that's exactly what it was.

Are "day laborers" common there? They tend to be rather transient.

I'm sorry Claire, my post was very confusing.

I live in Central Texas. I actually live in an upscale area, and yet, there are children who are left unattended for long periods of time. They are like "ghost" children, because all the other kids are over-mothered and have helicopter parents.

Sad.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office returned to routine staffing levels Saturday after no children were reported missing in relation to July Fourth’s possible abduction.

“After following up on hundreds of leads and phone tips for several days, the Sheriff’s Office has not yet received any calls of a missing child and no similar reports have been taken anywhere in the state during this time period,” said a release from Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives from the office will continue to follow any leads that are generated, he said.

No problem Jeanna, just a really distressing trend.

A bit O/T. If the kids you have observed as left unattended are under the age of 13, I would report it to the local Family Services or whatever they call it there.

Interesting ... 198 miles from Spotsylvania (I hate spelling this City name, I have to google it, then C&P, lol).

Spotsylvania and Transylvania are spelled and pronounced the same. Does that help?
