Back to the topic, judging by all the ideas here it looks like there could be lots of reasons why the child has not yet been reported missing.

Let's hope someone will call in soon - or better still that this boy was never in any danger to begin with.

This would definitely be explained why no one has reported him missing. If his family IS away for the long weekend, it's very likely that they have not seen any of the news surrounding this, so they may be completely unaware that their child is missing. Especially if they've gone camping or something and have no cell reception. Maybe he wanted to stay home to spend time with friends, but had no firm plans with any of them, which is why no one has noticed yet.

Although, I would hope that if you'd left your 12 year old at home alone for an entire weekend you would try to call every now and then to see if he was ok, or even have friends or family check in with him at some stage.

I don't see an Amber Alert issued for a dad , stepdad, whomever... for getting his son in a vehicle.
My gut tells me this is a real abduction. A very scary situation.

I'm quite local and just checked the area newspaper. There is still no child reported missing.

My hopes are that it was a kid who wandered off after an argument with family and someone went out and brought him home. If so, it would be good if the family notify LE.

That man was described as being a Hispanic male in his 50s. "

This is worth calling in, I think. Possibly a stretch, yes, (minivan vs full size, 198 miles away, etc.), but at this point I don't think there's anything to lose by informing LE. JMO.

Several years ago I once lived in a rural area beside a single mother and 3 children. One January I came home to seeing the oldest (17) chasing his younger brother (9), who was dressed in shorts and a t- shirt with a 2x4. I stopped my car and asked what the heck is going on. Eventually it was discovered the Mother had went to Florida and left the 17 year old in charge.


He had been driving her car ( no license) and could not even tell me where his 13 y/o sister was, nor were they attending school that week.

I called the police and eventually all 3 were removed by CPS, the 17 y/o became a street kid, the 13 y/o went from foster home to foster home. It was only the youngest that was placed permanently. A sad situation.

So my point is some crazy things happen. What if this is the same type of situation? An older teen would be afraid to come forward.

The majority of us are responsible parents, however there are some that are not fit to be parents.

Anyway just another possible scenario on why no one has come forward. jmo

They also refer to another incident:

"The vehicle in the first incident was described as a white van, possibly an older model Ford Econoline, that was parked on Midland Avenue adjacent to the school parking lot. The van had a large dent down low in the middle of the passenger side as well as steel bars on the interior of the rear windows. "

Margarita thank you for calling this in! I think I messed up on posting--I had a couple of articles and the one with this last paragraph posted by Popsicle is the one I was interested in. Light blue work van, possible Hispanic. So frightening.

I was referring to 'street kids'. There was a 48 Hour special on them, children of all ages, as young as 8, living on the streets. No one seemed to care where they were. Sad.

A bit O/T. If the kids you have observed as left unattended are under the age of 13, I would report it to the local Family Services or whatever they call it there.

Sorry to be further off-topic, but by incredible coincidence I'm reading a fabulous book right now by Cheryl Strayed, author of "Wild". This book is "Tiny Beautiful Things". The chapter I just read 15 minutes ago was when Cheryl worked with 12 year olds who were "at risk", and the horrible gut wrenching stories of abuse and neglect they told, and she'd call CPS and nothing was ever done because they weren't in imminent danger or the law was that kids under 12 get much more attention from the state than kids 12 and over, and in fact, all that was done was a report was written and filed. It's sad, but I feel like I've seen these feral young teens, and no one does anything. I knew a kid (found out after the fact) that lived down in the canyon behind my house for a week during the summer because his mom and her boyfriend went off on a trip and locked him out of the house on purpose so he wouldn't harm the house. On purpose, they locked this 13 year old out for a week with nowhere to go. In the fall, a friend got wind of this and called the family advocate at the school and she said she didn't doubt it in the least. And that was that. This last year I did a program with high schoolers that required parental permission, and had to go to great lengths to get signatures from some parents. I was aghast that there are kids at that high school who have no one (counselor verified this) to sign for them. No one. They may live with a friend's parents for awhile, someone else for awhile, no one is responsible for them at all and there is no one to sign the form. And yet, there they were, managing to get themselves to school and succeed and get their form turned into participate in this program - with no parent signature.

Sorry to be so long-winded. That's kind of where I see this boy - I see him as one of the great adrift. He's gone and whoever knows him assumes he's fine somewhere else.

So, we have two kinds of vans with Hispanic men approximate ages 20-somthing and 50-something, who have been observed cruising neighborhoods or parked near schools. They have taken pictures of various kids and even tried to get them in the van.

Sounds like someone is might be using the pictures to choose the victim then watching the kids to see when the child they want is most vulnerable. Maybe even sending the pics to someone else who they work for, if this is a child trafficking or ring.

I wonder if the two men are father and son. Worse, we could have a 50ish man who stole the younger guy years ago, held him captive, and is now forcing him to help grab a replacement. It has happened before. Severe stress and abuse can age a person. This fellow who appears to be 20-ish could be an older teen who is no longer useful to a perp who prefers to rape younger kids.
