It is the Catholic Church that claims the Pope is infallible, and inherently holy by virtue of being leader of the Church. I do not. I think some have been holy and some have not. Study history. Some of them have been wearing "stolen coats".

Hello WOVC,

My post wasn't addressed at you specifically
though you did indeed bring up the inquisition.

Indeed some in the Church have worn stolen coats so
to speak...sad for it discredits the faith of others in the eyes
of many. It was for that reason that I made my post.

Very well explained! Non-Catholics really don't understand the Church very well and therefore draw their own conclusions based on incorrect or incomplete information. There is a reason why those becoming Catholic takes classes for 8 months first, lol. It's a very intricate faith with a very long history.

Why did he have to be prayed for that whole week?? I thought that was so bizarre...his little feet sticking out like that....I don't understand why everyone was praying for him and praying they hoped he had a great journey etc...
I thought with all the praying he had done in his lifetime he could find his own way home......fgs he was the Pope, how much closer to God could he have been lol.

He was The head of The Catholic Church and millions of Catholics, which meant there were people from all over the world at his funeral. Leaders from all over the world were there. When any Leader in a Country dies and other leaders are there the services go on for at least a week. So what was the difference? Why was it bizarre? The above is so blatantly false: The Pope's Infallibility in matters excathedra have been part of the Dogma of The Catholic Church since the beginning.

Cardinal Ratzinger was calling himself Pope Benedict XVI, in a letter to one of his friends TWO YEARS before he was elected Pope. He wanted to be a Cardinal early in his priest career. He is the same fellow who headed the modern office of the Inquisition and was commonly referred to as the "Pope's enforcer." He was in the Hitler youth as a child. He publicly came out and condemned the Harry Potter novels and movies as threatening to Catholic children. These are facts. What people conclude about such information is open to interpretation.

First The Pope has NEVER not when he was a Cardinal and not now EVER comdemned the Harry Potter books. That is an out and out lie, and I might add I stongly resent you lying about The head of my Church who I love and have tremendous respect for..... Another out and out lie writing a letter to his friend calling himself Pope Benedict two years belfore he was elected Pope.
I would like proof of that.... If you knew anything about The Catholic Religion you would know how absolutely absurd that was to even try to get that lie across. I actually laughed when I first read that, that someone would even post that. Yes he was in the Hitler Youth he had no choice he was a young German and was forced into it.... But that is easy for someone who was not living in Nazi Germany during the second WW to judge a kid right?
Did you happen to just read about his visit to The Nazi concentration camps and how difficult it was for him being a German? No I don't suppose you did you would be way to busy judgeing him.

The week that he was dying, everyone was there....waiting waiting....every time I turned the tv on it was on every channel nearly....alot of people standing around were interviewed briefly and I heard countless people say that they were praying for him and that they hoped he had a comfortable journey, that they hoped he would be one with God etc etc
I just didn't get that he would need praying for, like he wasn't going to find his way!! He was the Pope!!
He was so close to God that some people believe if you touch him you are somehow closer to God too.

He was in The Rotunda of St Peters For 3 days I don't know were you are getting a week from? And you sound really angry at that fact, why is that? I guess it was on a lot of chan,els because He was an important person to a lot of people. I cannot imagine why anyone would say they hoped he had a comfortable journey. that just sounds so weird, But being one with God sound fine. what is wrong with that? Why would he not need to be prayed for? He was a man, he was not God. He was human just like the rest of us, he was just as vulnerable to sin as we are.

And did I say That if someone had been sexually abused by Priests I would tell them nothing had happened? and that they had not been hurt, is that what I was saying? As for the "DaVinci Code"...yes, it is fiction...but Jesus is to be revered and not FICTIONALIZED, and that's the bottom line for me. It is sacreligious to do so. Jesus "humbled himself to share in our humanity", as part of the Roman Catholic Communion prayers say, but he was NOT human and he did not have human drives and desires.

You can make up fiction and lies about anyone else, but to do it about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, especially for profit, is wrong and disturbing.

Edited to add: Yes, there have been sexual abuses perpetrated by Catholic priests. There have also been sexual abuses perped by baseball coaches, football coaches, teachers (as we all know well from recent media), camp counselors, scoutmasters, and YES, OTHER church leaders and ministers. Regular Joes who abduct, rape and kill children as we all know from this website and sadly, from life. There are pervs in every slice of life, across every social strata and area that where children are involved. The media just uses the priests as another means to bash the Catholic Church.

I am great, close friends with a Catholic priest and you couldn't find a better person in this lifetime, anywhere. We would allow him to be alone with our children and have. He has been to our home and played ball with our son many times. Yes, there are some horrible priests, but there are horrible people everywhere. The large majority of Catholic priests are very moral, very devoted to God and service, and very devout.
