Jesus the Christ, in His obvious omnipotence and unconcern for upsetting societal norms, personally chose all men as founders of His church, while allowing women to still play an important role. The Roman Catholic church would never ever second guess the Son of God's decision.Maral said:Just some rambling thoughts on the issue of women who want to be priests in the Catholic Church.
I would think that any woman who wanted to be a priest in the RCC would know her Church, know that it hasnt changed in 2000 years. Infallible teachings of the RCC will not change. They cannot change. The Church has no authority to confer priestly ordination on women because it is an infallible teaching of the Church.
There are a few theologians that will say they think the Catholic Church will eventually ordain women. But the vast majority say that will never happen, because if the Church changes, it ceases to be the Church.
I admire your friends that have still remained active Catholics, even though they cannot be ordained as priests. This is where the struggle I spoke of in an earlier post comes in. If they believe that the Catholic Church is the One, True Church, they must struggle with having to accept this part of their faith. Faith is so much more than just believing.
Hi DKDark Knight said:God will constantly test your faith in order to make it stronger. Faith has to mature, it usually isn't like a light switch. You make the first steps, and then ask God for wisdom and He takes it from there, as long as you are open to Him. And wisdom comes from trials and tribulations and testing, much like gold must be purified by fire or a diamond polished by buffing. And resisting the temptation to sin is a lifelong battle, for sure. Daily, actually. Satan doesn't need to tempt the unbelievers, it's us believers he targets.
Narla, narlacat said:Ok I am going to have to google what sins there are because I am interested to see how much I sin
Dark Knight said:You misunderstood me....the Catholic church sees no need to rebaptize someone already baptised by another Christian church, even a non-Catholic one. They recognize it as a valid Christian baptism. They will even recognize Protestant marriages when you convert, no need to get "remarried."
And I am guessing you went to church pre-Vatican 2, as they no longer teach that others won't go to heaven. They even teach that Jews share in salvation thru their own faith. So nowadays it isn't even close to what you described.
It's one of the few churches whose membership grows annually, so Vatican 2 was a good thing. I am sure we lost some pre-Vatican 2 members, though. Then again, there are some who prefered the "old" ways. *shrugs*cinsbythesea said:Yep- pre-Vatican 2 but that point the damage was long done and I was past believing the Catholic doctrine- much to my father's chagrin. One wonders how may others pre-Vatican 2 turned away from the religion because of these teachings?? Not long after I turned my back on Catholicism I had a devout Catholic client who told me she was leaving mass and her ankle turned and she fell...this was a very wealthy neighborhood in the church she attended and not only did any of her fellow parishioners stop to help her up but they stepped around her with looks of obvious disgust that she was blocking their way! Makes one wonder...

I am trying to understand this struggling bit.....'resisting the temptation to sin', how do you mean sin??
I want to understand what you think sins are....
You are going to hate me for this but your last sentence makes me sad for you lol
That is what they want you to believe, that you are a target, can't you see that they want to control you with fear....you are scared to death of sinning so you struggle daily....
I so don't think life is meant to be like that...worrying about going to hell every day.
I don't think you need a Bible or to follow what the Bible lays out for you in order to know right from wrong.
It's wrong to lie....that should not be a temptation, is it??
Is lying considered a sin??
narlacat said:Thanks DK, I am so ditzy..of course, you try to live your life according to the 10 commandments.
Even the name makes me shiver lol
I command you sounds very authorative.
Well really, it shouldn't be that hard to live within those guidelines, most of that list is just common sense
It's not cool to run around killing people
It's not cool to sleep with married men
It's not cool to steal
It's not cool to covet my friends hubby
Its not cool to be jealous of your neighbours good fortune
It's not cool to crap on your neighbour
You respect your Elders, namely your parents.
I have trouble with numbers 1-3 though lol...I don't think my understanding of God is the same as some people here's understanding of God...
Well way to go JesusGlow said:The good news is Narla, you are off the hook so to speak on 1 - 3. Jesus himself said he "fulfilled" the law.
I understand that this differs for the Jewish faith. I was referring to the Christian branches of faith above.
Jesus was making it clear that He was fullfilling the law, NOT replacing it, so we still have to follow it.Glow said:The good news is Narla, you are off the hook so to speak on 1 - 3. Jesus himself said he "fulfilled" the law.
