Vatican calling for Boycott of Da Vinci Code

Ok DK, no worries, I was just curious...
I really can't think of any temptations I might have a daily basis...

Just some rambling thoughts on the issue of women who want to be priests in the Catholic Church.

I would think that any woman who wanted to be a priest in the RCC would know her Church, know that it hasn’t changed in 2000 years. Infallible teachings of the RCC will not change. They cannot change. The Church has no authority to confer priestly ordination on women because it is an infallible teaching of the Church.

There are a few theologians that will say they think the Catholic Church will eventually ordain women. But the vast majority say that will never happen, because if the Church changes, it ceases to be the Church.

I admire your friends that have still remained active Catholics, even though they cannot be ordained as priests. This is where the “struggle” I spoke of in an earlier post comes in. If they believe that the Catholic Church is the One, True Church, they must struggle with having to accept this part of their faith. Faith is so much more than just believing.
Jesus the Christ, in His obvious omnipotence and unconcern for upsetting societal norms, personally chose all men as founders of His church, while allowing women to still play an important role. The Roman Catholic church would never ever second guess the Son of God's decision.

God will constantly test your faith in order to make it stronger. Faith has to mature, it usually isn't like a light switch. You make the first steps, and then ask God for wisdom and He takes it from there, as long as you are open to Him. And wisdom comes from trials and tribulations and testing, much like gold must be purified by fire or a diamond polished by buffing. And resisting the temptation to sin is a lifelong battle, for sure. Daily, actually. Satan doesn't need to tempt the unbelievers, it's us believers he targets.
Hi DK
I am trying to understand this struggling bit.....'resisting the temptation to sin', how do you mean sin??
I want to understand what you think sins are....

You are going to hate me for this but your last sentence makes me sad for you lol
That is what they want you to believe, that you are a target, can't you see that they want to control you with fear....you are scared to death of sinning so you struggle daily....
I so don't think life is meant to be like that...worrying about going to hell every day.

I don't think you need a Bible or to follow what the Bible lays out for you in order to know right from wrong.
It's wrong to lie....that should not be a temptation, is it??
Is lying considered a sin??

<<while allowing women to still play an important role>>

Surely you jest DK.

Ok I am going to have to google what sins there are because I am interested to see how much I sin

Ok well, silly me it's all coming back now
The seven deadly sins, of course!

1. Pride.
is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.
2. Envy.
is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation
3. Gluttony.
is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires
4. Lust.
is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
5. Anger.
is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.
6. Greed.
is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness
7. Sloth.
is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

I only have trouble with one, maybe two :p of those sins and yep, I'd say I struggle with that on a daily basis.

Narla,
with all the good you do, i doubt if you are sinning!! anyone who picks up stray animals off the street :woohoo: so they get a good home or won't get run-over or starve, volunteers their time to help young children, and helps the elderly is hardly a sinner in my book. god will have a very special place in heaven for you narla. You've got the biggest heart of anyone I have met on ws. god is keeping track of all you do to help others. How many people can you say do that for children and animals. People who are advocates for children, the elderly and animals are people who should be held in the highest regard. You are looking out for those who can't help themselves. that's a lot more than I can say most people do. People like that don't need organized religion in their life to go to heaven. just doing the good you do will reserve you one of the finest spots in heaven or in an afterlife (or whatever comes after life on earth). You rock, Narla. keep up all the great things you do. Plus, you make us laugh and laughter is the best medicine.
ellen

There are lots of big hearts on WS Ellen and yours is just as big as anyones too!
I've never met such a caring bunch of people, I even insulted one the other day for caring too much lol, that was so awful of me.
I did apologise but it didn't make what I did right.
It was me struggling with one of those deadly sins lol lol
Sigh.

You misunderstood me....the Catholic church sees no need to rebaptize someone already baptised by another Christian church, even a non-Catholic one. They recognize it as a valid Christian baptism. They will even recognize Protestant marriages when you convert, no need to get "remarried."

And I am guessing you went to church pre-Vatican 2, as they no longer teach that others won't go to heaven. They even teach that Jews share in salvation thru their own faith. So nowadays it isn't even close to what you described.

Yep- pre-Vatican 2 but that point the damage was long done and I was past believing the Catholic doctrine- much to my father's chagrin. One wonders how may others pre-Vatican 2 turned away from the religion because of these teachings?? Not long after I turned my back on Catholicism I had a devout Catholic client who told me she was leaving mass and her ankle turned and she fell...this was a very wealthy neighborhood in the church she attended and not only did any of her fellow parishioners stop to help her up but they stepped around her with looks of obvious disgust that she was blocking their way! Makes one wonder...

It's one of the few churches whose membership grows annually, so Vatican 2 was a good thing. I am sure we lost some pre-Vatican 2 members, though. Then again, there are some who prefered the "old" ways. *shrugs*

Thanks DK, I am so ditzy..of course, you try to live your life according to the 10 commandments.
Even the name makes me shiver lol
I command you sounds very authorative.

Well really, it shouldn't be that hard to live within those guidelines, most of that list is just common sense
It's not cool to run around killing people
It's not cool to sleep with married men
It's not cool to steal
It's not cool to covet my friends hubby
Its not cool to be jealous of your neighbours good fortune
It's not cool to crap on your neighbour
You respect your Elders, namely your parents.

I have trouble with numbers 1-3 though lol...I don't think my understanding of God is the same as some people here's understanding of God...

The good news is Narla, you are off the hook so to speak on 1 - 3. Jesus himself said he "fulfilled" the law.

I understand that this differs for the Jewish faith. I was referring to the Christian branches of faith above.

Oh my BhamMama, really lol
Lucky I'm not Jewish.

I get lost in the whole Jewish thing, this is my total understanding of Jews.

1. Steven Spielberg is a Jew.
2. They wandered the desert for 40 000 years or am I getting that number mixed up?
3. Hitler didn't like them and millions of Jews were murdered ie The Holocaust.
4. They don't believe in the second coming because they didn't think Jesus fit the bill.

They seem to have had a rough trot.

Well way to go Jesus :)
Thanks for that!
Now I'm home free lol

I agree.

My good friend is Catholic and her husband is Orthodox Jew. I tease her that every day at her house is either a high holy day or a festival. :D

As for me, not a fan of organized religion. It seems to have gotten off track somewhere...

Jesus was making it clear that He was fullfilling the law, NOT replacing it, so we still have to follow it.

I wouldn't know so I'll take your word that the membership grows in the church. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area region and the church's stance on women, gays, etc is not a popular one here so I'm probably not living amidst in the Catholic church's "real world" so to speak.
