It was uncertain until the last moment if 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado would be able to go to Oslo for the ceremony. She had been in hiding the last couple of months, as the Venezuelan government has forbidden her to leave the country. She finally managed to get out, in disguise, and first a long drive from Caracas to the coast, and then a 10-hour-long journey in a small fishing boat from the Venezuelan coast to the island of Curaçao, before she was able to take a plane to Oslo. The plane journey was privately arranged with support from the US, and the plane made a stop in Maine, before the final leg to Oslo, where she landed in the evening.

The US government had been informed in advance of the boat journey from Venezuela to Curaçao, to prevent that US troups would attack and sink the boat, as they have done with other similar boats. It appears that the Trump government had knowledge, and perhaps supported, Ms Machado's journey to Oslo.

The above is from a Finnish newspaper, unfortunately Google Translate doesn't work when I try to translate it into English, but the same information is likely found in the two other articles below:

It is interesting that thousands of Venezuelan men enter the US illegally, after fleeing their country with their governments approval, but a woman receiving a Nobel Peace Prize is not allowed to leave. It sort of tells you a little bit about the current government in Venezuela.

I expect she is part of the rival political views/party

She is likely the actual duly elected President of Venezuela. Virtually no one, including the UN, thinks the election of last year was fair. By almost all measures Machado clearly won the election but Maduro just said "No." Where does that leave everyone?

You can read (or watch) the speeches given at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony here, Nobel Peace Prize 2025 Those will give an understanding of how the humanitarian and political situation in Venezuela is today. It's not a country where it's safe to protest against the government, or to be a relative of someone who has voiced their opinion about the situation, it can end with disappearance, torture, and death.

It is stunning how little this is discussed.

JMO, there are complications in people's stance about Venezuala, as with Cuba. So for the media, it's way too subtle, way too political, way too confusing. And, of course, it's not about Epstein so who cares (irony).

ETA Just noticed this twist
