It was uncertain until the last moment if 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado would be able to go to Oslo for the ceremony. She had been in hiding the last couple of months, as the Venezuelan government has forbidden her to leave the country. She finally managed to get out, in disguise, and first a long drive from Caracas to the coast, and then a 10-hour-long journey in a small fishing boat from the Venezuelan coast to the island of Curaçao, before she was able to take a plane to Oslo. The plane journey was privately arranged with support from the US, and the plane made a stop in Maine, before the final leg to Oslo, where she landed in the evening.
The US government had been informed in advance of the boat journey from Venezuela to Curaçao, to prevent that US troups would attack and sink the boat, as they have done with other similar boats. It appears that the Trump government had knowledge, and perhaps supported, Ms Machado's journey to Oslo.
