"You know they stole our oil...they took it all away" - President Trump on Venezuela, Press Conference

That's presumes that US neocolonialism will be successful in seizing control of a sovereign nation for the purpose of stealing assets, land and oil. Every country in the world, including South American countries, China, Russia, UK, Canada, EU, Australia and so on, have to agree that the US can kidnap foreign leaders to steal assets.

If the US is not pushed back, I guarantee that Greenland will be next. This is the US testing the water with a country that they presume will go under the radar - no one really cares. The next target will be bigger, but the precedent will be set.
I just came here to say that about Greenland.

“We are going to run the country right,″ Trump said as he turned to oil. “It’s going to make a lot of money.” Then he added, about past Venezualan governments, “they stole our oil.”

There is no support from anyone in the international community for the US kidnapping of a foreign leader.

"Cuba, Venezuela's closest ally, is making an "urgent appeal to the international community" to respond to what it calls the "criminal" US attack on Caracas ... a "brutal attack on our territory of peace."

Colombian President Gustavo Petro says on X he opposes "any unilateral military actions" against his neighbor. Colombia ... has sent troop reinforcements to the border with Venezuela.

The Moscow Foreign Ministry called the US actions "an act of armed aggression" ... "Venezuela's right to determine its own destiny must be guaranteed, without any destructive, let alone military, intervention from outside."
...

China ... condemned it said it was shocked by the "flagrant use of force" and the violation of Venezuela's sovereignty. China also stated that it opposes the US's "hegemonic behavior," which is inconsistent with international law.
...

British Prime Minister Starmer "wants to speak to Trump about what happened in Venezuela" and says the UK was not involved in the attack"

Good word-of-the-day....

the US's "hegemonic behavior," which is inconsistent with international law.

Venezuela used to be a very wealthy nation. It can be again. Why is THAT a bad thing?
Quite. Few today know that in 1930 Argentina was the 10th richest country in the world before decades of bloody awful government destroyed its economy.

"You know they stole our oil...they took it all away" - President Trump on Venezuela, Press Conference

The Washington Post explains exactly why the US falsely claims that Venezuela stole their oil from foreign control in 1976.

Even the UN acknowledges that Maduro was not the lawful president of Venezuela. He was a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 that hijacked a nation.
You're right,Maduro was not the President. Maduro needed to be arrested and the people deserves to be free to choose whomever they want to rule them without fear.

With all due respect, it’s not a bad thing that Venezuela can be a wealthy nation again IF Trump will let it happen. I have grave doubts about that, especially since now Venezuela is going to be “occupied” for an indefinite period of time.

Does the DOJ indictment make this legal?

Trump says Rubio and Hegseth will be a “team” working with the people of Venezuela to run Venezuela for this uncertain period of time. It’s unclear who those Venezuelans will be.

Asked how long the US would occupy Venezuela, Trump said “I’d like to do it quickly, but it takes a period of time.” He said that the United States would be selling Venezuelan oil to China and other nations.

“We’ll be selling large amounts of oil to other countries,” Trump says.

Asked why running a country elsewhere in the Americas is “America First,” Trump said, “I think it is,” citing the need for oil and energy. It’s worth recalling his quote to the Atlantic in which he said that America First is whatever he says it is.

Some countries (Iran, Russia, China) care - they just lost an ally. And I agree on Greenland. Scary times.

Push back? Is ANY nation going to stand up for Maduro? He was not the lawful president. He had hijacked the country. Now the lawful president can take office

I just came here to say that about Greenland.
This is step one.

When the US shifted the meaning of Freedom of Speech, they started by arresting students who protested the circumstances in Gaza. No one reacted. Some students fled to Canada to avoid arrest. Over time, that has expanded to silencing comedians, then censoring news.

It starts with something that doesn't matter to most, or which many can justify based on what they hear from the US president. Then it expands to something that doesn't sit well with many more.

Greenland next. Then more countries in South America - all based on the Monroe Doctrine.

"After years of neglect, the United States will reassert and enforce the Monroe Doctrine to restore American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere, and to protect our homeland and our access to key geographies throughout the region. We will deny non-Hemispheric competitors the ability to position forces or other threatening capabilities, or to own or control strategically vital assets, in ourHemisphere. This “Trump Corollary” to the Monroe Doctrine is a common-sense and potent restoration of American power and priorities, consistent with American security interests."

The more and more President Trump talks about the benefits of Venezuelan oil for U.S., I'm beginning to think this operation may not have been about drugs JMO

Trump has made various comments during this news conference showing that this military operation was at least in part about gaining more access to oil in Venezuela.

Who else indicted him but Trump?

Starts around 1:10:00 and ends around 2:30:00

Im just fearful this is going to be a extended, potentially bloody occupation. I have concerns about our governments ability to manage conflict peacefully and prevent avoidable violence

But that isn't happening if I listen to the speech, or did I miss that part?
