Venezuela - President Nicolas Maduro & his wife "captured and flown out of country" by U.S. Army Delta Force during "large scale attack" - Jan 3, 2026

I'm genuinely curious.
What is it exactly, that you don't think the Venezuelan people know that they're "in for" as you put it?
I'm also curious why you think they don't know.
I don't really follow politics much at all, but when I see a nation dancing in the streets and celebrating and folks (who don't live there) saying essentially "no, this is bad!" it's confusing.

jmo
Trump didn't do anything except in his own interests. He certainly wasn't trying to help the common folk and better their lives, when he ordered the kidnapping of their corrupt president.

I don't think they'd be cheering if they knew all of his true intentions.

Imo

Who is this person? This can't be the same MTG from before, the bootlicking one under Trump's thumb who ranted about Jewish space lasers, false flag conspiracy events, the Illuminati, QAnon, etc etc?

When did she grow a brain? Or more accurately, when did she remember that she had a brain and knew how to use it?

Maybe I need to read it over again, but I'm pretty sure this all makes complete sense to me. So was she just pretending to be a wingnut airhead before???

She resigned her seat in congress. The rumor was she was running for Governor, but no one really knows. Maybe she just woke up.

MOO.

"Nicolás Maduro and his wife have arrived in New York."

They have landed at the airport closest to where I live! About 1 1/2 hours away. I am sure I will hear more on the news in the am, about all the security and happenings there!!!!

But I think I saw that the new Mayor of NYC said they are going to be imprisoned in NYC??? I just sense that was deliberate on DT's part but not sure. moo moo

It shouldn't matter. If everyone is reporting the truth, the sources would all be reporting the exact same thing.
It's worthwhile reading international news and comparing it to US news.

People are not celebrating in the streets. They are lined up at grocery stores to get supplies in anticipation of severe shortages. If there are photos of people celebrating, research whether they are in Venezuela, or in some other country.

People are afraid because the US is trying to police the world.

Some terrible things have been going on in Venezuela in recent years.

And they aren't the U.S.'s problems to solve.

While the US government is popping champagne corks, the rest of the world is taking the situation seriously.

"Avoid all travel to Venezuela due to the significant level of violent crime, the unstable political and economic situations, the risk of arbitrary detention, and the decline in basic living conditions, including shortages of medication, gasoline and water.

On January 3, 2026, military strikes took place on several sites in Venezuela, including military facilities, in the city of Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.

The current situation in Venezuela is tense and could escalate quickly. Borders and airspace could close at short notice. Several airlines have suspended flights to and from Venezuela, reducing options to leave the country."

Maybe it’s because Venezuela is a dangerous country. I would think all countries that issue advisories would say something similar.

The US has a Level 4 - Do Not Travel Warning.

Do not travel to or remain in Venezuela due to the high risk of wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure. All U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents in Venezuela are strongly advised to depart immediately.

In my personal opinion:
It’s so funny how people can comment on something they know so little about and that is being spun by a certain group.

It’s an EXTREMELY positive thing that happened and actually miraculous that it went down so smoothly.
Praying the transition to the proper democracy that the Venezuelan majority voted for is equally smooth.
Bravo to the US!!!
Finally we are showing bravery in the face of tyranny.
The good, faithful, honest people of Venezuela have BEGGED us for years to help/ to intervene.
Maduro WAS NOT the legitimate president.
He refused to move aside despite fewer votes- by a large margin than Edmundo Gonzalez received. Illegal, unethical and criminal.
He is an evil demonic dictator who (along with Chavez) ruined one of the most elegant countries in the world.
NOW THERE IS HOPE FOR FREEDOM AND A RETURN TO THE LEGITIMATE COUNTRY VENEZUELA WAS BEFORE IT WAS CORRUPTED in the late 1980s.

As someone who has been to Venezuela, is very close to many born in Venezuela and has been watching this story for many years and very closely for months- I CAN VOUCH THAT THIS IS AN ANSWER TO PRAYER FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF VENEZUELANS.

If anyone is confused about this GLORIOUS GUTSY thing we just did- study it.

Read about Leoplodo Lopez & Edmundo Gonzalez - both exiled in Madrid.
Look at Maria Corina Machado’s Instagram page and scroll back to voting day when the brave people of this country brought the voting receipts to her- atop a truck.
By all means WATCH THE VIDEO OF HER DAUGHTER ACCEPTING THE NOBEL PRIZE ON HER BEHALF- LISTEN TO HER SPEECH - read about her recent journey to Oslo.
Open your heart to the possibility that this move to arrest Maduro was a godsend to the people who need it desperately- to those who have suffered under unspeakable tyranny and have begged for help.

THIS IS THE DAY OF LIBERTY IN VENEZUELA- praise God!!
Long live Venezuela and the proud people of Venezuela.

Nobody educated on this is naive enough to think this is a move against drugs alone.
The country benefited GREATLY in the past and will benefit GREATLY again when the Venezuelan oil industry is run by legitimate oil companies and not corrupt dictators.

Maria Corina’s official statement below:

Gloria al Bravo Puebla Venezuela - GLORY TO THE BRAVE PEOPLE
But are you sure this isn't just trading one corrupt dictator for another? Trump having control of their oil doesn't sound to me like there will be any benefit to the common people of the country.

And why isn't Gonzales the president now, if he won the election and his usurper has been removed from the country?

Some of us have as much history as you with Venezuela and have also been watching this story unfold for many years. I think it's great that Mundaro is out. But Mark Carney's take is the best I've read today. I can be happy we rid Venezuela of a president they didn't elect and still have grave concerns about how this happened and what happens next. Destabilization is only acceptable if there's a plan to stabilize, which is why these things are usually not done unilaterally. Recent history has taught us what happens when we invade foreign countries to topple their leaders, however corrupt those leaders may be, without a successful strategy in place. It hasn't been a good thing.

Let's hope this is different and that we haven't set a precedent to do this again in the near future.

MOO.
This. Its a 'two things can be true at once' situation.

If only that that was what Mr Trump had planned, but it isn't. He's already said that he isn't going to hand control over to the Venezuelan opposition, but rather run the place himself for some indeterminate period. Quite how he'll manage that without boots on the ground is anyone's guess. He's not interested in Venezuelan democracy. He's only interested in your oil.

I’ve served on the Homeland Security Committee for the past three years. I’m 100% for strong safe secure borders and stopping narco terrorists and cartels from trafficking deadly drugs and human trafficking into America.

Fentanyl is responsible for over 70% of U.S. drug overdose deaths and fentanyl comes from Mexican cartels made with chemical precursors from China and trafficked across the U.S. Mexico border.

Mexican cartels are primarily and overwhelmingly responsible for killing Americans with deadly drugs.

If U.S. military action and regime change in Venezuela was really about saving American lives from deadly drugs then why hasn’t the Trump admin taken action against Mexican cartels?

And if prosecuting narco terrorists is a high priority then why did President Trump pardon the former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez who was convicted and sentenced for 45 years for trafficking hundreds of tons of cocaine into America? Ironically cocaine is the same drug that Venezuela primarily traffics into the U.S.

The next obvious observation is that by removing Maduro this is a clear move for control over Venezuelan oil supplies that will ensure stability for the next obvious regime change war in Iran.

And of course why is it ok for America to militarily invade, bomb, and arrest a foreign leader but Russia is evil for invading Ukraine and China is bad for aggression against Taiwan? Is it only ok if we do it? (I’m not endorsing Russia or China)

Regime change, funding foreign wars, and American’s tax dollars being consistently funneled to foreign causes, foreigners both home and abroad, and foreign governments while Americans are consistently facing increasing cost of living, housing, healthcare, and learn about scams and fraud of their tax dollars is what has most Americans enraged. Especially the younger generations. Boomers and half of Gen X will cheer on neocon wars and talking points, but the other half of Gen X and majority on down see through it and hate it.

Americans disgust with our own government’s never ending military aggression and support of foreign wars is justified because we are forced to pay for it and both parties, Republicans and Democrats, always keep the Washington military machine funded and going.

This is what many in MAGA thought they voted to end.

Boy were we wrong.

I KNOW so many of us have had the same question as we plow through the day. In such a day of chaos and confusion.... we may lose sight for the moment....BUT it must be answered.

It has something to do with venue and the indictment being granted by the Southern District of New York.
That airport provides the appropriate "venue" - with the venue being the first place they landed in the US.

I read in a different article that Maduro and his wife were first taken to Guantanamo Bay (from Venezuela).

imo (till I find the links again)

ETA: According to CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig, Maduro’s landing location — at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York — has “vast political, international, diplomatic significance” due to a legal term called venue, which requires a case to be charged in the correct federal district ..... Link

And ... Maduro and Flores were placed aboard the USS Iwo Jima, which stopped at the US military base in Guantanamo Bay, two sources familiar with the plans told CNN. There, Maduro and his wife were transferred to a plane, which landed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York on Saturday evening. Link

While neither the US nor Venezuelan authorities have pinpointed locations that were struck, Colombia’s Petro, in a social media post, listed a series of places in Venezuela that he said had been hit.

They include:
  • La Carlota airbase was disabled and bombed.
  • Cuartel de la Montana in Catia was disabled and bombed.
  • The Federal Legislative Palace in Caracas was bombed.
  • Fuerte Tiuna, Venezuela’s main military complex, was bombed.
  • An airport in El Hatillo was attacked.
  • F-16 Base No 3 in Barquisimeto was bombed.
  • A private airport in Charallave, near Caracas, was bombed and disabled.
  • Miraflores, the presidential palace in Caracas, was attacked.
  • Large parts of Caracas, including Santa Monica, Fuerte Tiuna, Los Teques, 23 de Enero and the southern areas of the capital, were left without electricity.
  • Attacks were reported in central Caracas.
  • A military helicopter base in Higuerote was disabled and bombed.
Why were all these strikes necessary to carry out the kidnapping of Maduro? Did they know exactly where he was before they captured him?

Or were there other purported reasons for all these strikes?

I think we need to take a step even farther back than the pardon of major drug dealers, and blowing up boats that allegedly contain drugs, and ask a more important question: why does the US government blame foreign countries for national drug addiction?

Why doesn't the US government support social health care programs to address that addiction?

Why would anyone believe that stopping a drug supply will end drug addiction? It's simply not true.
Thank you!

Fewer people struggling with substance disorders=fewer enterprises selling substances.

Reuters is Reuters, four sources say she's in Russia. But Russia denies.

So if she is indeed out of the country, is she there for her own safety? Did she leave prior to the Maduro incident? Was she warned of the US attack beforehand?

well.... to me this tells me how miserable these poor people have been living:
Venezuelans have experienced severe misery under Nicolás Maduro, marked by a catastrophic economic collapse, hyperinflation, widespread shortages of food, medicine, and basic services, rampant crime, and a massive humanitarian crisis forcing millions to flee their homes due to failed socialist policies, government mismanagement, and corruption.
If I put myself in those shoes.... removing Maduro is "profound happiness and joy".
But, if you read the document that @otto provided earlier...
https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2025-National-Security-Strategy.pdf
it is quite clear what this US Administration wants from the "western hemisphere".

Does any truly observant person see this agenda as a solution to address what the Venezuelans have been suffering?
I do not think so. And of course, this is moo all the way.

Okay, but since they're obviously not all reporting the same thing, then according to what you just said, not everyone is reporting the truth. So it does actually matter what news we read.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth defended the strikes in Venezuela and the capture of Maduro .... He described them as aligned with the United States’ interest, saying the strikes enabled “access to additional wealth and resources.”

Hegseth dodged a question regarding whether he was prepared to have troops on the ground in Venezuela, saying instead the U.S. “running” the country means that Trump will get to set the terms.

And so the public vendetta continues . . .

Just her opinions, like these are our opinions here!! ha ha ha.
She brings up a very important question, in my view.

I guess I don't understand why she is being blasted as a "public vendetta" when she is resigning from being a public anything.....
