Venezuela - President Nicolas Maduro & his wife "captured and flown out of country" by U.S. Army Delta Force during "large scale attack" - Jan 3, 2026

It only takes one person to get violent for the domino effect to start.

I hope for everyone's sake this goes peacefully
Venezuelan is not like the U.S., it’s not a heavily armed society. It’s not like Iraq or other countries perpetually at war with someone. No domino effect. It doesn’t have a large military. Any military attack against it by the U.S. would be a disgrace and would be widely criticized by our allies around the world. Not only illegal and unjustified, but also inhumane.

Venezuelans are actually looking forward to getting their new elected leaders in office while rebuilding their own country. They don’t need an invasion from the U.S.

No kidding. Hey, domino theory 2026 but for real this time. First of all pesky Colombia, then the Andean countries still not rw. Bolivia and Ecuador (and Peru) nationalized petroleum, pretty soon he'll meet his pal in Arg who got the big handout from him. I weep for SA.
Not looking forward to a big scale invasion of SA, there are plenty of natural resources that the USA might want access to and I am hoping for the sake of our countries that it won’t happen

Guys please be civil. They will shut this thread down if we don't follow TOS. This is one of the few places this can be discussed online without arguing and personal attacks.

The Venezuela strike sets a new low for the world order — even by Donald Trump's standards

From the article

"What's to stop other countries now mounting military operations to kidnap the leaders of other countries and proclaim that they are now running them?"

Venezuelan doesn’t have much of a military. They’re not a violent, war-like society. They’re not looking to go to war with anyone, they’re just looking to be left alone to run their own country and economy, controlling their own resources without invasions or economic blockades or other punitive actions from the U.S.
They now have an opportunity to reclaim and rebuild their beautiful country. That couldn’t be done with Maduro in power. Think about this - Venezuela’s economy has been collapsing for years. An astonishing reality for a nation with some of the world’s largest oil reserves. imo The U.S. may have done them a favor.

As an American (living in Canada) I respectfully disagree.

Perhaps you could explain to the majority of posters here why you think that the US has Venezuela's interests at heart? While you're at it, maybe you can tack on how the US has Greenland's best interests at heart, too.

(from your linked article)

International Group analyst Phil Gunson ..... "Venezuela is full of armed groups that would resist the regime's collapse and undermine any effort to restore the rule of law. Generals currently loyal to Maduro might install an even more repressive leader.

"Without a viable strategy for what comes after the government falls, ousting Maduro could lead to even greater repression and hardship for Venezuelans."

The name calling of anyone is uncalled for imo. Really? And we wonder why people are angry
I agree! Piggy! Slimeball! Low IQ Joe! Ugly inside and out! Stupid! Name calling is very unbecoming and lessens the person making them. I hope you agree.

I’ve been telling this to many friends and family booking cruises and vacations down that way. This military scheme of the U.S. and others is going to disrupt civilian travel down there. Americans are not accustomed to waging wars off our own coasts. I’d rather head to Europe or Hawaii.
I'm supposed to be going to Panama in February. I'm wondering if the flights will get canceled.

"Meanwhile, in Caracas, Venezuela's Supreme Court has just ruled that Delcy Rodríguez, who has been serving as Maduro's vice president, should assume the role of interim president.

The high court says putting Rodríguez in the position is important "to guarantee administrative continuity and the comprehensive defense of the Nation", according to Reuters."

These people are disgusting. This is all so grim.
Different political opinions are inevitable in a free society. Not grim at all to me, nor do I find people with other opinions to be "disgusting." Well, most of the time.

Sounds illegal to me.

I have a cruise to Mexico booked in May and this all makes me very uncomfortable.

It's not about his drug cartels.

It's about his killing 20,000 innocent people because they didnt want to vote for him.

Actually, the US played a role in making them suffer economically because we were trying to force out their leader. We haven’t been helping. We were doing it to take control of their oil because we didn’t like their leftist style of government. To be fair, Trump is not the only US president who has treated Venezuela badly.
