Everyones emotions are "raw". I am glad there is a cooling down time before a decision to continue will be made. I will be okay with LWOP, no appeals, no TV interviews, and isolation. I am so sorry for Travis' family and I hope they can find a calmness in the future. I am so angry with the TH saying how this was a big win for the defense. Since when did this become a game. The only one who has lost is TA family and because of CMJA. JSS is NOT going to give her LWP. And if this is a do over CMJA will more than likely get the DP.

this reminded me.....i was wondering who paid for their accomodations while they were in AZ? was that on them? surely it was.

They actually have family that lives in AZ, unlike Travis' family.

But the fact remains, Travis could have EASILY walked away from her numerous times and chose to continue on with the sexual aspect of their relationship long after the stalking behaviour started. Yet he didnt. Is that an excuse for what she did? NO, absolutely not. But I can totally understand why some older generation people can see why that is considered emotionally abusive.

Two things: when I brought up the subject in the other thread about a jury of peers, I think I was clear when I posted that I would want a jury from my demographic group and that encompasses more than age but the age is what stopped a lot of posters in their tracks. It isn't just age although age is a big part of it. There are cultural, educational, financial and social components that make up a jury of peers.

The second thing is that once again, the little psycho is manipulating everyone. We only have her word that he "strung" her along, used her, treated her like a prostitute. I've never bought that for a second. She admitted during cross he never gave her the impression he would marry her or have a serious relationship with her. She pretended to be ok with it.

She ran that let's be friends hustle on him and he fell for it. "Travis, I know you don't want a serious relationship and neither do I. Let's just hang out and have fun together. No pressure, no commitment."

She hustled him. He believed she meant it. Poor guy.

IMO NO!

I've spent a LOT of time in prisons, jails, and detention centers.

Prior to flying backwards off a treadmill and sustaining a spine injury, I worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for sixteen years. My last position was as an Intake and Assessment Specialist for one of the largest rehabs on the west coast. I administered biopsychsocial assessments on inmates seeking to defer incarceration.

O/T-
I appreciate your entire post, but I wanted to ask about what I bolded.
My son has a brand new treadmill waiting to be set up and that sentence scared the carp out of me. It is the mom in me speaking, but is there anything you can tell me to help him avoid something like this?

If you do not wish to post about it that is OK, I would understand. TIA

PS- Mods if this is not OK, feel free to delete, TY.

This is a copy & paste of some questions I had on the Legal Thread:

3. Does Travis' family HAVE to agree to such a settlement? (Although I'm sure the County Attorney would present such a settlement to them out of courtesy.)

Thank you!

And these are AZ Lawyer's answers:

1. No.

2. Yes.

3. No.

And thank YOU for the simple yes-or-no questions.

I think it's seriously messed up.

I can't believe they were touring the Grand Canyon ! It's beyond my comprehension.

Why? Wasn't it on the list of 1000 places to see?

Is there really any confirmation that they were really in the Grand Canyon, seems like it is just speculation that snowballed here? I know they said sightseeing.....but where?

*snipped by me

I KNOW! (like Monica on Friends) I was out to dinner when I saw verdict/jury question things pop up on FB and was, I won't say sad, but kind of frowny faced about not being near a tv.

If the fam was at the Grand Canyon & I, as her mother, was nearby just hanging out at the motel or whatever, I'd have gone to the courtroom, even just for a jury question.

P.S. I love how many of the interviews with Jodi-supporters all have some variation of "she lied, but she's not a liar." It's like the Where's Waldo of phrases for me!

OMG, this drives me insane! and have you noticed the latest little thing she adds on to everything she says? BY DEFINITION.

like 'that settles the matter.' i want to smack her into the next millenium when she says that.
YES, dear, a person who lies IS a liar. BY DEFINITION.

Someone was on the chat (HLN) with Ryan and said that the gun a pillowcase, a jersey and floormats (bloody) had been found 19 miles (south?) of the Hoover dam, and had been turned into Las Vegas PD. Recently. Stranger things have happened. But anyone hear anything like that?

I referred him to this site. LOL

Chris Hughes ‏@cshughes 11m

Willmott told The AZ Republic that despite rumors, she and Nurmi intend to stay on the case for new penalty stage. #JodiArias

---

ETA - Anyone else think the DT know they don't have a choice?

I think Nurmi would have to be dragged away from his cash cow, despite his shenanigans in court.

Jodi's "art" sales helped IMO

:seeya: Speaking of Mr. Martinez, any word on him ?

You could see he was absolutely devastated yesterday ... I felt so sorry for him !

He did everything he could and he should be extremely proud of his work !

He is a remarkable man !

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: for Juan !

I think JM was physically and emotionally exhausted and has been for weeks. Beyond grief for TA's family and carrying other cases how can one person carry such responsibility.

He got a murder 1 conviction and whatever he can do to put JA behind bars for life is another win. I want the DP for her but in the end I never thought she would get the needle.

Per the judge breaking down yesterday I think she was exhausted as well. Weren't we all suffering from JA fatigue...and still are!

Absolutely have not heard this; and I've been following this case carefully.
There was another 'gun found' rumor ~month ago that was quickly discredited.

What is the process now?
They pick a new jury (and how is that done? What kind of questions etc).
And then what? The arguments like what happened for JUST THIS PHASE?
Jodi speaking for herself? Maybe the "friend" speaking for her?

I don't know how this works. Have not seen it before.

Wondering the exact same things!

I would like to please add to the questions above:
1. I understand the new jury must accept the first 2 verdicts, so if it is as mentioned above and they start with penalty phase...do they get "caught up" in opening statements? I see nothing but objections ahead if this in the case...e.g. the DT or JM will try to say something "new" ...but the jury will hear part of these "slips"...

2. Shouldn't "new" jury be charged with deciding the penalty phase based on the SAME information the 1st jury heard/saw only?

I just don't understand how this process "mini trial" is going to work unless they are stuffed in a room and made to watch the original trial (minus sidebars, etc.) so they have the SAME information this jury had.

I don't for a nano second trust JSS to give Jodi LWOP. Her "emotional" pause yesterday was for JW and Jodi. The look of pure adoration on the face of the killer and the smile of gratitude from JW sealed it for me. From the 1st day I started watching this trial, the obvious bias towards JW from JSS was crystal clear to me.

Thanks to the 8 jurors who didn't cave. At least you fought for justice. For Travis.
I have to disagree. I think JSS has a very good measure of the CM and if the second jury hangs, we'll see that in the Judge's verdict. I couldn't help but think her emotions were partly because she feels like she's failed in that she wasn't able to guide the jury to a verdict, even if it were LWOP.

where did u hear that?

Back towards the beginning of the trial not sure where I read it. I think it is SA's brother or something that lives there.

JMO and MOO, but I am going to guess that their "fairy godfather," Dr. Phil, probably picked up the tab ...

His producer visited JA in jail ...

And how can you forget what Dr. P paid the A's ?

Don't know the truth of the matter, but there was a tweet in the hubub yesterday that the family was right there in town. Told there would be no verdict yesterday. However, since some of the family was there every single day, I have no idea what was up with that. Hmmm.....
