"Dynamite" charge coming up.

What does this mean? Will they hold him over for another trial. I am really quite shocked, and I just recently started getting up to speed.

Dear lord, is he going to get off? OMG.

With that big a split, I hope the judge declares the thing a hung jury. They will try him again I would think.

I didn't watch much of the trial, but I'm surprised based on my longstanding belief that he clearly did it.

Luna,

During verdict watch none of us ever knows what's going on. We spectators are not privy to the inner workings and behind-the-scene deal makings that could occur. So this is a common occurrence. Sit, wait, chew one's nails, speculate....and continue to wait some more.

Thanks Madeleine and RC for the explanations.

I'm stunned that it's a hung jury..just stunned.

I really hope they try this case again and that at least now they have his statement on record and can do a better job with cross and the rest of the case. :( Poor LF and MF. :(

I can't believe six people could believe he's not guilty! This is BAD

Did they hear what I heard when he took the stand. Those 6 jurors must have been asleep!

No, he's going to tell them it is their duty to reach a verdict, and no future jury can do any better job than the 12 in that room right now. It's his way of saying, go back and figure it out, because we sure as heck don't want to retry this thing again.

And yes, he will very likely remain in jail until the new trial is over (if the jury ultimately does fail to reach a verdict).

My husband said 'it's the fault of the prosecutor for not hammering JLY on cross exam.' I agree. He took the stand and they let him off with a lousy cross. :( :(

Please tell me he'll be held over and not released before he's re-tried. :(

It is crazy to me that this case can be 6-6 and the Cooper jury was unanimous.

There's just no predicting juries. No matter how you thought you did in a case, the attorney will almost always be surprised at what thing was or wasn't important certain jurors.

If this jury hangs, there will probably be a fact or lack of one that catches observers off guard.

but 6/6 -- how confident could the State be that they would actually get a conviction next time. If this happens in the Anthony case, I'll blow a gasket!

The slayer is not going to walk free...the state I believe would try him again.

He may get out on bond pending retrial.

I don't think we will get a verdict in this case. If it was one or two holdouts, I'd feel more confident, but it will take a lot to sway 6 people either way.

I thought someone was taking Chad a new sign.

I have no idea. If I were them, I'd still be confident (attorneys don't lack for egos) and think the jury got tied up on something the DA failed to understand as important to them. But yeah, 6 on NG is a pretty big fail for the prosecution in a case with some pretty good evidence and I thought a compelling narrative for guilt.

I agree. 6 is unbelievable. And obviously nobody wants to (or should) budge if they feel strongly in their belief.

I'm feeling somewhat sick at the moment. I can't believe it's 6-6 and they feel so strongly about it. Obviously, this is where they were on Friday or the foreperson wouldn't have felt the need to "look up" his responsibilities this weekend.

I agree. I hate to say this, but it's hung.

I am leaning now on hoping they don't change their minds. If they are certain enought to be evenly split, I'm afraid it would a war of endurance rather than consideration for which side would cave.
