I'm new to this forum, but would like to open a thread on the cold case murder of martial arts instructor Veronica Estrada. She was murdered on Dec. 15, 1993. Two trials in 1994 ended with hung juries. Just wondering if anyone here has done work on this case?

Thanks,

Papa Bear

This is the last news I've seen on the case. Ex homicide detective Dick Adams was working the cold case in 2006.
<<In 1993, martial arts instructor Veronica Estrada was found strangled off Soledad Canyon Road just west of Camp Plenty Road. Suspect Stuart Milburn was tried twice, but both cases ended in mistrials.>>

Anyone know how to get in touch with Dick Adams?

On the subject of fingernail clippings:
How long does DNA last in fingernail clippings taken the day after an attack? If there are in fact clippings (it has been rumored that these exist) from Veronica's nails, could there be enough to get an accurate result?

Also, how can we get the police to run a DNA test and see if it matches their most viable suspect?

I'm reading some studies saying that there are almost no positives after 5 years. Discouraging. We just need something new to get this case moving again.

The reason this is discouraging is due to the fact that most of Veronica's clothes were "accidentally" destroyed before the trial. Did I mention that the defendant's father was a retired LA police officer? That may or may not have played into how the evidence was treated.

The defendant's Mom was the famous Coralie Jr., the owner of the talent agency that discovered Cuba Gooding Jr. They had (and still have) money to burn on this.

In fact, if it hadn't been for the OJ Simpson case, this trial may have garnered more attention from the media at the time.

Further research shows that DNA tests on fingernail clippings can be VERY viable after 25-30 years. We just need to get the police to run the test.

Veronica was my taekwondo instructor up to the day she was murdered. I have always kept a close eye on this case and wonder why the DNA hasnt proved Stuart Milburn ( another instructor of mine) was the suspect. He was a weird guy, very sketchy and temperamental. I didnt like him much. Veronica was one of my favorite people at that time, she was a good soul. I want this guy to rot for what he did. No doubt in my mind it was Stuart. It was when I went to the studio the next day and saw everyone crying and was informed of Veronicas Death.

Any updates out there?

After a quick scan of the thread, my first thought is thank God for the retired detectives not willing to give up!

With two mistrials, the DA likely couldn’t put more resource against this case.

The good news is that DNA technology has leaped forward in the last couple years. Perhaps someone like Parabon Labs could help develop the needed DNA studies to bring forth justice. They can only engage if the PD asks them.

kudos to all of you for keeping this case alive. What has the POI been doing all these years; staying out of trouble?
