Op shop launches national search for family after finding urn with ashes

Bit of an odd one, but I'm sure it's happened before. A charity shop worker realised a donated item wasn't just an ornament, but a wooden urn containing cremains. They're putting out a public appeal to try to find next of kin, because there's no plaque or identifying information on or inside the urn.

"We're assuming there was a house clearance and someone has just gathered everything up without realising what it actually was and has donated it to us," [Judy Barry] said.

  • An urn containing ashes was donated to a Vinnies in regional Victoria
  • Vinnies volunteers are desperately trying to find the owners who could be anywhere in the country
  • If the ashes are not claimed they could find a final resting place at the local cemetery
