Hold the Phone....

I just consulted the book Lost Girls, Maureen did not call her sister from Port Authority. Maureen called her from Penn Station at 11:30 P.M. to ask for a ride. This makes sense but she would have been taking Amtrak from there and not Metro North.

Amtrak services New London, Hartford, Wallingford, and Mystic from NYC. Wasn't Maureen from Groton/New London? If so, that would make sense for her and not Metro North which serves different parts of CT and is the one I take when visiting family. Also a ticket is around 95 to 120 dollars, more if its the Acela. The last train running to New London as of today is at 10:30 P.M. She called her sister at 11:30, if the schedules are similar today, it would have been to late for her to take Amtrak at all, but not to late to take Metro North which would bring her to Bridgeport, a bit far from New London.

Maybe it was too late for her to take a train and she decided to kill some time until the morning by working and making a little more money. She had already checked out, so unless she checked into another hotel for the night, spending MORE money when she was already short.... Maybe in an effort to make money to avoid eviction and to kill time she went against her normal routine and did an outcall, something she never did. And the very thing type of call that fits the SK and the G4.

MONDAY:

11:30 A.M. Sara leaves Maureen in the hotel room to go back to CT. Maureen says she is staying and will hold the room until Sara returns two days later on Wednesday. They had been up all night working and Maureen was "Finally Crashing."

12:30 P.M. Maureen calls Sara's phone, "barely an hour later." Sara , annoyed, does not answer, she just wants to sleep.

Later that night Time Unknown: Big Al calls Sara from NYC and tells her that Maureen called him and told him she was robbed of 5,000 by the guy with the dreads who had approached them the day before in front of the hotel. Al states that Maureen called him because she could not get a hold of Sara. The only call from Maureen to Sara was within an hour after Sara left, around 12:30 P.M. So did Maureen get robbed in the morning or shortly after noon?

Time Unknown: Missy hangs up with Al and calls Maureen leaving her a message. Maureen does not pick up.

11:30 P.M. Maureen calls Missy from Penn station asking for a ride. Missy states its too late.

A Moments Later[/B] Missy calls Will and asks him for a ride, Will had to work in the A.M. so no dice.

A Moment Later Maureen calls Missy back and tells her she will "take the next train' home and has enough money to do so.

Tuesday:

Maureen checks out of the Super 8 Hotel (According to hotel records).

Missy calls Maureen and gets no answer.

Wednesday: Will calls Maureen and her phone goes straight to voicemail this time. Will Calls Missy to tell her.

Thursday:
Missy and Will call the Norwich Police who do not take them seriously when they find out Maureen is an escort in "financial trouble."

Will and a friend travel to the Super 8 in Times Square and are told that Maureen checked out on Tuesday and not on Monday

Not sure of date Maureen's cell phone pings near Fire Island.


Maureen checks out of the hotel on Tuesday, so she was alive on Tuesday and likely did not disappear from Penn Station directly after the phone call.

I remember early early on in this thread Maureen's sister posted here and obviously had a wealth of information and insight. She stated that Maureen had been robbed "got her money back" or "made her money back."

So if Maureen was robbed early afternoon Monday--had made her money back---and checked out Tuesday then it can be assumed that she worked all day Monday, between the time after she was robbed and when she was ready to go home at around 11:30 P.M. When she couldn't get a ride, she says she will take the next train. She obviously never does as she checks out on Tuesday. (Unless Tuesday just means after midnight?)

Point being there is an 11 hour period after Sara leaves that Maureen somehow gets robbed, makes her money back, and then attempts to go home.

If she met her killer at Penn Station, did she decide to make a little more money in between trains? Did he offer her a 1500 overnight as he did with the other girls? Was that overnight to take place in LI? An offer she may not have refused due to her financial pressures. Did she check out shortly after midnight creating the Tuesday check out as opposed to the actual next day? Did she hop the train to Babylon with her killer?

it is important to note that Penn Station is where you pick up the LIRR to go to and from Babylon, where her cell phone apparently pinged after she went missing.

Sometimes I wonder if the SK works for the MTA/LIRR and commutes everyday from midtown Manhattan to Long Island.

Just some thoughts.

Spice thank you for your detailed information but I'm not from USA (like some others in this forum) and I'm getting lost. Can you please tell us how to go to Groton CT. You can assume the train schedules apply for 2007 too.

Let's say you're in Penn Station at 11:30 PM and you want to go home. You can add the parameter "as quick as possible". What needs to be done?

Please do not elaborate on "What if's". What is the proper way?

If she didn't check on the hotel computer ( I think someone said that was how she was posting her ads) You would check the train times at the station at one of the booths or on the board from Penn to New London. If there was a train running that late she would purchase a ticket at a window. Then she would get on her train and get off in New London, about a 2.5 hour ride due to it being a regular Amtrak and not the high speed Acela.

I checked on the Amtrak website today, trying to see a schedule for that exact train. When you put in NYC Penn departure to New London station (on a Monday) the "Leave By" (as in time of day) drop down menu shows the latest train at 11:00 P.M. When I clicked on it, it showed me an option for one train leaving at 2:36 A.M. and arriving in New London at 5:34 A.M. Which I was surprised by. So if the schedules are similar to 2009 (not sure why they wouldn't be) then the 'Next" train she was referring to was to come 3 hours after she hung up with Missy.

This could mean that she in fact did go back to her hotel to get her things, kill some time, check out, (after midnight would denote a Tuesday checkout technically) to return back to Penn to catch her train.From her Super 8 in Times Square is on 46th street between 5 & 6th. Penn Station is at 34th Street between 6 & 7th avenue. So she had an 8 block walk and one avenue over. In other words, its really not that far from where she was staying at all.

The thing is she apparently never did. Knowing exactly what time she checked out of the Super 8 on "Tuesday" would be very helpful. Did she take one more job before checking out Tuesday morning? Or did she go straight back to Penn Station after checking out shortly after midnight and somehow meet the LISK there? Was her intention to go straight home? Or was she offered an overnight price that she couldn't refuse and hopped on the LIRR to Babylon with her killer?

It just sticks in my craw that that is exactly where you would take the LIRR to Babylon, Penn Station. I've taken it out to Babylon to catch the ferry to Fire island many times. Does he work for the MTA? Spend his days in midtown/Penn Station and then commutes back to LI on the LIRR? Did she find out her train schedule from him? Did she purchase her ticket from him? And they struck up a conversation?

The Lost Girls book does say it was an email and that Missy was informed by an Internal Affairs officer of its existence. It states that "he was one of the last people to respond to her ad". The Statty I, police officer.

I do believe it was the only response to her insistence and finally made authorities pay attention to Maureen's disappearance even a little bit and it was obviously only to cover their own butts that one of their own had thrown himself into the middle of a possible SK investigation.

it's truly disgusting how all PD dismissed these girls and their families. It's shameful. Their lives mattered and had value no matter WHAT. Being "escorts" did make them worthless or any less worthy of justice or empathy. In fact, they are MORE in danger and more vulnerable than many in the general population which should have made them stand at attention immediately.

Clearly, some of their own have no problem seeking out escorts and their services but they sure do judge them and deem them worthless when it is time to protect them or deliver them justice.

Something to consider is that "Pay Phones" are almost non existent in NYC now and have been dying out for quite some time. I would laugh when I noticed when back in 2008. I'd see one and be like..omg look a pay phone! They are like a relic now. Also,they were also not to be used unless it was an absolute necessity as in NYC, they were not only FILTHY they often did not work. Or both. lol! They simply are not as present as they used to be and even before cell phones took over our world....most New Yorkers CRINGED when they had to touch that receiver and put it up to their face.

I mean, it's possible but personally, I highly doubt she used a pay phone. I don't remember the last time I saw one or saw someone using one, even in 2009. Penn might still have some operating pay phones because its a transit hub, although they have largely disappeared from Subway platforms in recent years as well.

Maureen had a phone in her hotel room (she could block her number if she wanted to hide where she was) she also had money and was steps from about a million bodegas or delis where she could purchase minutes for her phone in an instant. Literally on every corner. I just don't see her using a pay phone. Just my opinion.
