Video: dolphin bites little girl at Sea World

  • #21
I might be wrong but I think this will eventually become a story that is shared at the holiday table when the little girl is grown up. In fact, if it were my family it would be retold with enough embellisment to make it a hilarious story! :) I think the little girl is going to be fine :)

Something like my first fish story the first thing I caught was my neighbor David. Hooked him in the finger trying to cross to the other side of the dock. He had to go to the emergency room. I'm still embarrassed.

I think you're right!!

They showed the girls hand on the video up in the thread and it looked totally fine. There were 2-3 puncture marks but if you got bit by a dog or farm animal or almost anything else it would be worse. The parents say they're not going to sue but they did not talk like people in that mind set IMO.

I've seen mom & dad making the tv and other media rounds, putting their young child on tv program after tv program, flown to NYC for tapings... etc. I noticed that her parents never put the camera down to check on their child - nice, but they sure have plenty to say about Seaworld.

The link above states that they posted this video to youtube and left the park before speaking with Seaworld... "oh your bleeding honey? hold on a minute, can you just wait till Daddy's video finishes uploading to youtube"

The dolphin should have bit the parents....

During the video, they sure wanted to make sure they got a shot of her hand. I doubt the parents will do anything. I read they prayed for two days hoping the dolphin was ok. Really makes me sad. Poor dolphin just was going for the food. The girl made a mistake. My son fed the dolphins too, but I don't remember him getting a tray. More like 5 dollars a fish, I missed that excitement of seeing them up close because I was nursing my daughter. A lesson learned, and like previous posters I can see this becoming a story to tell.

I thought stingrays could only hurt you from the other end...

You're right. It's wasn't stingrays that you can feed there, they're manta rays. :blushing:

IMO parents teach your darling snowflakes to pay attention and follow directions! If you have doubts your child can, supervise them, if the risk outweighs the benefit say no and don't do it!

It sounds to me that the little girl forgot the safety directions and got a small accidental bite from the dolphin. No big deal. I've been bitten by various animals before, so what? Wash off the wound, put on a band-aid, and move on. If its worse, get stitches if need be. When we petted the sting rays, someone told me that they'd had their stingers removed, so I didn't worry at all. Then after I'd enjoyed petting quite a few of them, the aquarium worker told me that the stingers are still intact and usable, not removed. Now that made me a bit nervous. But he said if you treat them gently and don't hurt or scare them, they won't sting you. And none of them did. I was a bit nervous when I held a large tarantula too at my daughter's high school. But I treated it carefully and gently and it didn't bite. Now, the macaw did bite me, and hard too! When I used my fingers to try and pry its beak off my shoulder, it bit my fingers too. Took a good chunk out of my shoulder before it let go. I went back a few minutes later and held the same bird again so I wouldn't develop a fear of it and to show myself that I could hold it successfully without getting hurt. All went well on the 2nd try. We take a risk, sometimes we get hurt, then we heal. No different from falling off a bike while learning to ride. I used to hold and play with my large pet rats all the time. One time one of my nicest rats suddenly got scared when I was holding it and bit a huge chunk out of my finger, jumped off my hand, and ran and hid. Yes, it hurt but it wasn't the rat's fault that something scared it and it panicked. And as nice as the rats were, things like that can happen at times. I bandaged my finger and moved on.

I just watched the video on YouTube.

When the parents are trying to film the injuries, the little girl does not want them to.
Mom tells her "it's important" and then tells her "we're not going to show it to anybody".

:waitasec:

Important why? LAWSUIT

Not going to show it to anybody???? They uploaded it to You Tube instantly and have taken her and the video they are "not going to show to anybody" on a media tour FGS!

Dog gone! Lie to your kid and worry about documenting for future use more than her feelings.

:waiting: something smells fishy and it ain't the dolphins!

Yeah that's weird. As a child the only reason I wouldn't want someone to see is if I realized I made a mistake and broke the rules and caused the dolphins reaction and it wasn't the dolphins fault. Sounds like the child is smarter than he parents! And I won't hold my breath about the lawsuit. If they weren't interested in a lawsuit then why subject their child to publicity, go on multiple tv shows, etc. they would have talked with sea world personally if upset and then moved on. Full of crap
