Police have charged 80-year-old Vincent O’Dempsey with the 1964 murder of a man in Warwick.

Vincent Allen was last seen alive in a vehicle driven by a known associate about 5pm on April 18, 1964 and was never seen again.

Despite a thorough investigation his body was never located.

It comes after a $250,000 reward for information was put up in July in relation to the murder.

The reward formed part of a cold-case review by investigators from the Homicide Cold Case Investigation Team.

A coronial hearing in February 1980 supported the police view that Mr Allen was dead, and that his death likely occurred in the Warwick area.

The reward remains on offer for any information, which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Mr Allen.

Mr O’Dempsey has arrived at the Brisbane watch house and will appear in court this afternoon.

A labourer, Mr Allen had been helping police over two jewellery store robberies in the area at the time.

His body has not been found despite an investigation and coronial inquiry in 1980, which found he was likely to have been murdered near Warwick.

Police on Tuesday charged O'Dempsey, a Wacol man, with Mr Allen's murder.

The murder is believed to be the oldest cold case in Australia to be "solved", and follows a forensic review using new technology.
