@Wyle_E_Coyote The chart was updated overnight to include stay home order. The width of the curve changed, slightly. I've VERY concerned with the length of time on the width. Could this be due to rural communities or are they expecting Northern Virginia to explode?

I am confused why Virginia's peak is so much later than our surrounding sister states.

I really wish Northam would throw up some slides and numbers he's looking at. Its time to reveal the fact.
This just MIGHT make a difference for those who are non compliant.

I'm still seeing lots of moms and very young kids going to Family Dollar, Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, in my area (SWVA). I've limited myself to one shopping trip per week, this will be my last week. I plan to not go into the public, unless a dire emergency. I have taken a ride out a time or two. I go sit in the Wal-Mart parking lot, or one of the shopping center. This gives me a good feel for the lack of social distancing and the future in my local area.

Today will be a mad house at every grocery store/Dollar Tree, nationwide. Its the 1st of the month. Food stamps, SSI and SSA checks.

Moo...

Darn it!!! I didn't even consider that. I need to make a trip to the store. I think I will wait a few days, most stores are sanitizing overnight, right?

@Simply Southern I don't know why it's so late, but it does explain why his stay at home order goes through June 10th. Maybe he thinks we're so on top of the social distancing that our curve will be flatter and thus peak later?

It's already exploding in NOVA. I'm in Fairfax county, and last I checked we had 244 cases, far more than any other county. They just released the list of places they're planning on setting up field hospitals in.

I've been ordering almost everything online. Last time I was out to Giant they had someone disinfecting each cart and the self checkout screens after each use, not many people and the ones that were out were staying well apart. I'm hearing different reports on Nextdoor, though. I am seeing an awful lot of traffic, more than I would expect.

I just hope the state's using this opportunity to speed up the road construction on 66!

@Wyle_E_Coyote .. This, forecast shows Isle of Wright will be out of hospital beds in 8 days!!!

Even with Fairfax numbers you folks have one of the best hospital systems in the national and I can not say enough good things about your local government response!!! Way better than Governor N.....

How is the social distancing working in your area?

I don’t understand the early closings of schools in Falls Church. Schools are closed for the remainder of the school year. What am I missing?
It's pretty meaningless. They're going to set up online classes for the rest of the school year. Since so many things have been cancelled, and I presume also because there weren't any snow days this year, they are moving the end of the school year up a week or so.

Looking at the Washington University model. Virginia does not peak till May 20th. The virus finally ending MID JULY!!

I was expecting a large change in the peak and a shorter time frame, when the EO was issued.

This did not happen, so I emailed health data. Northams order did NOT close retail businesses. Governor must close the retail to flatten the curve.
MD and DC did, their length/duration is 30days shorter.

Virginia's death rate is very high per capita and compared to our sister states. Again impacted by not closing retail.

We can expect this to run thru mid July or longer unless retail closed. This seems to be heavily weighed in all the models.

Hi @Simply Southern. Here’s an update I posted on Saturday. The Covid Thread moves fast so u may have missed it. Not much to add since we are now under a stay at home order. Work for us remains slow and I was cancelled today. So have been home for over a week now. I am sure it’s the calm before the storm. So continue to count blessings that children are remaining healthy and huge impacts haven’t been seen in the dc area yet.

Sat post:
Good morning WS! I hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and mentally sane. I have been out of WS loop with kids home but wanted to do a quick touch base.
Work...Has been rather quiet for now. Thankfully kids continue to be spared from any serious complications from this for now. We have had a few test positive but non in need of hospitalization. We also have the ability to test our own patients and staff with a 90 min test result. Guidelines remain rather strict with fever needed to test. But we also have an off site testing area where pediatricians can refer their patients for testing. PPE equipment remains low as people stole supplies a couple of weeks back but we r making it work and slowly supplies r coming in. Again thankfully we haven’t had to use them as much With census low and no corona patients. Visitor guidelines have become strict with only one parent allowed to stay with patient throughout hospitalization and no other visitors permitted. No switching out of parents. This has understandably caused some unfavorable response. Lastly, we are preparing to take patients up to the age of 29 to free up beds from area hospitals when the need arises.
Home...Remains chaos. Kids getting cabin fever. My oldest is a senior and with our schools having had closed for the remainder of the year, cancelation of prom, decision day, powder puff, year book signing, and graduation there has been lots of tears. Still figuring out the homeschooling process since no plan was put in place prior to the cancellation announcement so that’s been frustrating. On a positive note my project list is shortening rather quickly.
But we are all healthy and well and I thank God for that.
Thinking of you all. Please stay safe and healthy.

Every county seems to be doing their own thing. Thank you Governor N (sarcasm)! According to our superintendent in PWC the Virginia Department of Education is not recommending new instruction for the remainder of the year. Therefore, there will be no fourth quarter grades. In PWC the focus (aside from staying healthy) is on allowing kids to finish assignments and improve their 3rd quarter grades. All work is optional. Teachers for the last 2 weeks have been reaching out to their students on their own. Last week there were trial zoom meetings. This week there have been scheduled instructional review meetings. At the high school level they r prepping for the online AP exams in May which have also been altered to allow at home testing. The problem has come with varying schedules and overlapping of class meetings. Thankfully, today I received an update that computers have been ordered for those in need and soon, at least at the high school level, there will be a strict schedule in place so that conflicts are minimized and there will be a bit more organization in place. Fingers crossed cuz i’m Going nuts trying to keep up with 17 teacher’s emails and various zoom meetings on varying days and times.
Loudon county had already ordered their devices and set instruction to begin after spring break. Fairfax County appears to still be in planning phase and likely also won’t start anything till after spring break.

ETA:my sister just sent me my nephews calendar from Thomas Jefferson High School and wow Fairfax County is on the ball with their planning and strict and organized daily schedules.

My Daughter is in Kindergarten in Chesapeake Public schools. I have been incredibly impressed with the response from her teacher. She sends SEVERAL messages/updates per day. E-mailing packets, etc.

@Momof4RN happy to heard you are safe.

SW VA is working to round up laptops and wireless for students.

I think, most schools had a contingency plan, written years ago and much outdated.

I'm grateful to our dedicated teachers and school board scrambling to provide in home learning. Not use what they are doing about grading, yet. I'm just happy to keep these young minds busy.
