Virus Alerts?

Nope, we don't get viruses :) another reason to dump M$. I have popup blocker on as well as "re-direct" notice. Every once in a long while, I will get those silly M$ virus warnings and I just have to giggle to myself for the stupidity. Because Safari is now available to use on M$ these popups just happen regardless of the OS used.

This warning from yesterday wasn't a popup though. It actually was part of the window; not a new window either. I had to use my back button or click the ignore warning button on the message to get back to page 13 of this thread.

Most viruses are written to run on a Windows platform because Windows is the most used operating system. Linux and Mac have typically avoided a lot of security issues because of this. There are risks with every OS though.

The same thing happened to me. It was either yesterday or the day before. Luckily I have AVG and it picked it up right away. It was one of those that says your computer has viruses, scan now, etc...

Just an FYI to everybody, if you see that DO NOT click on it. Just "x" out of it and you should be fine. It looks scary but as long as you don't run the "scan" it shouldn't attach to your computer.

ETA: I highly recommend AVG. It's free and stops the virus, spyware, or malware before it attacks the computer. I've had it for about 6 months and have yet to have anything show up in a scan, as I said it stops it before it starts.

Is it possible that this virus alert was actually one of the ads? I've seen those before and just click it off. I use Firefox and just installed 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 a few months ago, so now I don't see any ads and have never had a problem with WS. I also use AVG - I love it!

I just went back and looked through pages 12-14 and I didn't notice any strange links or any code. I wonder why only certain people saw the threat? Maybe you all are using the same browser? I'm on the very latest version of Firefox and I have AVG anti-virus (wouldn't use anything else) been online since 1995, never had any viruses.
I find this very strange though and would love to know what's going on.

I'm with you WA ... AVG is the best and I only run the free version, not the paid version! Why anyone would BUY Norton or any of the others is beyond me? I dumped IE after the last windows update, kept getting a "hungapp" error and the windows would have to close, beyond frustrating. Foxfire is just so much faster. For those of you who need to remotely log in or transfer files between say your office and home, take a look at Teamviewer, great program and it too is free. I can leave the office and work from home, speed is pretty good too. I agree with Tuffy, the virus was not from this site, you all have a common denominator, but it wasn't WS. Another helpful hint, some virus's/malware are embedded in program software, if the program is running or loaded so is the virus and your AV software may not catch it. You can scan your computer in safe mode to check for them. Good luck guys.

Ok, just did some research on this.

For one, I misread the google warning page. Newadresult dot com IS NOT a part of google, which I thought it was. No excuse other than I didn't have enough caffeine in me this am to clearly understand the page I linked.

Further investigating using IP and DNS verified sites found that the above referenced site is owned by a china based spam dns site - bizcon.

Yesterday and Friday, the only sites I visited prior to posting on WS were the linked sites from media outlets about yesterdays hearing.

However, I was on the thread between pages 10 and 15 without going to any other pages and the window warning appeared after I had composed a reply to a post on page 13 and I hit the submit reply button. This is immediately when the window warning page appeared. I tried to use grab, an apple screenshot capture app, but it wouldn't take the screenshot. I tried again, using my back button to get the page to appear. Nadda, nothing ........
On Thursday, I was also submitting a reply to another thread when the same screen window appeared.

This website newadresults and its owner bizcon are far more sophisticated than I was use to. Or else I have been out of the business longer than I thought.

I still am going to go look to see the level of harm and what they harm is these sites do. Most spam is harmless; just annoying for M$ users.

BBM

Aha! It was one of those! My hubby just got tricked by that one last week, he believes everything his computer tells him:crazy:
Luckily we have a pc guru in the family and he fixed it.

My daughter fell for that too. The window looks like it is part of Windows Security! Yep, as long as you don't click on it, you should be fine. That is how it tricks you into installing the malware on your system.

Oh dear Lord, is that one still surfacing on the internet? Back in 05 it was hitting many M$ users and causing lots of headaches for those of us who happen to know how to get rid of those puppies. Ugh ........

This one was entirely different. This was a warning from Google about the website newadresults dot com. Why I couldn't capture a screen shot from the window screen of it still eludes me.

Oh this one popped into my pc at work last week. It just must be making the rounds. I couldn't get it to shut down with control-alt-delete and ultimately had to crash my system. I ran adaware and nod32 afterward and came up with nothing of consequence.

Well I have checked my security logs and nothing was inserted backdoor onto my system. I didn't expect to find anything but I wanted to confirm I hadn't.

After doing some searching about googles early warnings, which is what I received last night, digging some info on those two dot coms, and searching my go to malware website, this one is basically a spyware website that has linked itself to a media website. Nothing new; these creeps do it all the time. Ya get one cleared off your site, and another "pops up".

It was harmless to my mac, but annoying at the same time. I have wasted close to two plus hours tracking these jerks around the internet.

If you obey the message and run the phony scan you will be left with a nasty Trojan, one of the types that tracks your key strokes.

If I wasn't so dumb I could probably help! LOL!

There is a way to read the history and get a report about what it was that my liveonecare caught.. I just don't know how to get to it!

Yes I had something that looked like what you say and I knew enough to not use that to scan and "x"'d out. I used my NAV scan system which had already kicked in and at the end it said "1" detected which was corrected - right? Seems okay.

Could it have to do with having two windows open? I have my email minimized while I'm on WS. That way if one comes in I can minimize here and go see my email. Should I not do that?

Just throwing this out here - one thing I did that was unusual yesterday was I googled some stuff as per instuction on the RG thread regarding clues and revelations that appear on his myspace page. I have heard that google can be troublesome.

Also it flashed on my screen "trying to ? my email" attach? kidnap? invade? I don't know but I saw "email".

Am I okay? I also ran my SpySweeper later and there were about eight removals but that is usual. Some of you really understand the innerworkings of your computers. They are foreign to me - like electricity - I use it but don't really understand it.

When someone says "browser" I think I know what they mean but to try and change mine is like asking me to get a tooth pulled. I've bought software that I never could load/use properly. Spent three days to get "cookies" so my printer would work - thought cookies came out of the oven. Now the darn printer is broken (I hate sharing!) and I'm printerless again! I can't just go buy any printer is that correct?

Please advise and thank you.

Perhaps browsers without 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 were affected? I don't see ads when I browse. I have visited this site without 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 on, and it is quite different.

I see ads but don't know how not to or if I even have 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. Is that a separate purchase from the rest of the safety stuff?

If anyone can get a screenshot of anything they are seeing, please do and send it to us. Maybe we can help point you in the right direction.
I wouldn't know how to screenshot - sorry. What I do know, is the Cubbies really need your help now! :blowkiss:

We had one of those sweep the server on our work computers, and I ended up having wipe and re-install the entire system.
At home I use firefox with 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 plus, spybot S&D and Ad-aware, and have never had a virus on my home computer (Knock on wood).

I didn't even get the virus alert like the others did and was on that thread all day. I think it was the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 add-on in firefox that blocked it.

Oh and JBean... the eye is creeping me out too.
