Virus Alerts?

One last thing, and it might be the most important...

When I reply to a thread, below the box that I type my msg in, there is a bar for "Additional Options".

Then it has "Miscellaneious Options"
The following boxes have a checkmark in them by default apparently:

"Automatically parse links in text" [I have no idea what that means.]

"Automaticaly embed media ...." [Any chance THIS is where/how the infection is being spread?]

I just ran my virus scan and it said that I had 8 trojan viruses in my computer!! I just had this fixed about two months ago after the kids fell for one of those fake Windows alerts. It said something about HKEYS? Whatever that is.

"Q. What are HKEYs?

A. The "Handles to the Keys" (HKEYs) are the accsess points to all the configuration settings in a Windows computer."

over the last few weeks I have had the same thing some of you describe (your computer may be infected! click here to scan) several times, and each time it was on a different website. It happened at a celebrity gossip site (not at all surprising) and a trusted parenting board as well as one other time I can't remember where I was. It seems to be coming up randomly on different sites. I was sure not to click and closed it down, I hit ctrl/alt/delete and end task each time as I was afraid to even hit the X. I have seen some of these things have fake X's to get you to click. Anyway, just letting you know it seems to be a problem all over and not just here. It hasn't happened to me here so far btw.

BBM

That's what I do every time something weird pops up on my screen wanting me to click on it. Ctrl/Alt/Delete, then close down my browser in Task Manager.

My laptop is protected by Norton 360.... can anyone tell me if Norton would protect me from the trojan that some believe is coming from the KC Anthony photobucket file? I am completely computer illiterate when it comes to that kind of stuff...

TIA!!!!!

I use CA and got hit with the warnings when DD was trying to exit Myspace, I think it's just something out there.

CA killed it for me:)

My norton caught it on both my pc's and also caught it on my hubsand's 2 pcs....killed it dead!

We were both on facebook that day...don't know if that matters.

Could it be something with Gmail? Keep in mind I don't know what I'm talking about just asking a question.

Back when I was still "allowed" (by my computer) to view tech sites, I read that SPAM in your gmail acct can infect your computer, even if you don't open the msg. [I swear, I THINK I read that somewhere at some time in the past 6 months.]

I did have a fake msg in my gmail saying that Cindy X [my lifelong b/f] suggested you add Carol Y [or something like that] as a friend. I called my b/f and asked her who "Carol Y" was and she had no earthly idea. So maybe I picked it up from that fake Facebook invite.

I noticed on my brand spankin' new CPU that within 3 days, it had d/l and installed fake "PC Tools" program, which I uninstalled, but it showed right back up the next time I booted up.

Also noticed Python2.6. Anybody have a link to some legit info re: PYTHON?

I can't get it to uninstall because it
"cannot open Key 040 Reg DB values. "
[Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\pywin32-py2.6]
Uninstall String = "C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Python\RemoveSpywin32.exe" -u "C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Python\pywin32-wininstlog"

Thx for any links or other advice.

restart your computer in safe mode
when you get to your desktop go to add remove programs in the control panel.
try and uninstall that what you don't want again.
after that, find your start up folder using windows explorer, if any icons or other information is listed, of the programs you are uninstalling, delete those.
any folders, of the programs you uninstall are still showing, delete those also.
then run your anti virus, and any spy-ware, malware protection you have.....run a full scan!
after that, restart your computer in normal mode, and that should take care of your problem.

AVG detected this on pages 1 and 2 of the following thread:

(I put a space in http and websleuths so the link won't work) It just took me about 6 hours to get my computer straightened out.

Is this forum trying to scan our computers?

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 will be here later to explain it to you but it is my understanding that this is not anything to do with Websleuths or any other site. It has to do with what is in your computer, not on a site.

This is why it is so important to have Anti-Virus protection updated, a firewall, and to run Windows Update at least once a month (or set to automatic.)

One thing, if you see ANY bad pop-up ads on sites! DON'T X out of them. Some virus infections will con you. If you click on ANY part of a suspicious window, you could get infected!

Instead use the ESC (Escape) key to close any Windows than, reboot your computer, update your virus definitions, and run a full scan immediately.

I use Avira AntiVirus Personal Edition and everytime I click on a page or link the warning message below pops up. I scan daily and have removed the malware twice this week because it somehow snuck through. I've only seen this warning when I visit this site. I'm posting the malware name and brief description in hopes that it will help your tech support team resolve the issue.
Hope it helps, Jennifer

Special detection: HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen

Description:
A common attack against the web infrastructure can be the infection of harmless web pages. Some malware changes every HTML file stored on the disc and adds a link (very often an IFrame) to a site hosting malicious code. Other attacks can aim for the web servers and try to insert forwarding to the pages hosted there. The owner of these pages is advised to take them offline. Fix the hole (either on his own PC or on the server), check the pages for infections, clean them and go online again. Infected Web Pages often contain additional Iframe, Object or Script Tags. The Script Tags often contain encrypted Code.

I had a lot of false positives with Avira, uninstalled it, and switched to Avast. I like Avast better.

I have Avira and have had it for a long time....I have never had a pop up here with it.....I also use Malwarebytes(for malware, etc.) and it is an awesome program.

This happens to me every time I get to a certain point in the Who is George Brody thread, but nowhere else. There has to be something embedded on a post or ad on that page. I tried a dozen times. Always the same thing and only on that page.
