  • VSP have been searching a home on Old Post Road in Bradford looking for evidence that could result in possible homicide charges related to Crooker's disappearance.
  • 42-year-old James Nickles Jr. lives there with his girlfriend Lisa Akey.
  • Others at the home told LE they buy drugs from the couple.
  • Akey told LE that Crooker had been at her house, she didn’t sell him any drugs, and he left with an unknown woman in a dark-colored SUV.
  • While LE was searching the home, they found multiple guns in their possession.
  • Now Nickles is facing federal charges for being in possession of two firearms as a felon and active drug user.

Instead of calling 911, the feds say Nickles moved Crooker’s body into his fire pit and burned it over the course of several days.

Nickles has not been charged in state or federal court with murder.

Police say an exchange between Nickles and his girlfriend, Lisa Akey, referenced the alleged murder.

Troopers said Thursday that they arrested Akey, 41. She’s being charged with accessory after the fact.

James D. Nickles Jr., 42, is facing charges of second-degree murder, unauthorized burial or removal of a dead body and providing false information to police, according to state police spokesperson Adam Silverman. A judge found probable cause for the charges Friday, and the Vermont State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Nickles.
