Vermont State Police resumed their investigation Friday into the “suspicious” death of a man, whose body was found at a trailhead in Hinesburg late Thursday night.

The Hinesburg Police Department discovered a deceased person at the parking lot for the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest trails on Gilman Road at approximately 10:40 p.m.

Due to lack of lighting, the scene was secured to resume the investigation during daylight on Friday.

Gilman Road where the incident occurred is heavily wooded, and located near the Cedar Knoll Country Club. Half a dozen police vehicles and a red investigation tent were visible on the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

The victim’s identity is being withheld until the family is notified.

Gilman Road is closed to traffic during the investigation.

Vermont State Police spokesperson Adam Silverman said police will release more information once it becomes available.

“At this point detectives are treating the death of the male victim as suspicious,” Silverman said in a post on Twitter Friday morning.

HINESBURG, Vt. (WCAX) Police have released new details about a suspicious death investigation in Hinesburg.

Investigators say the victim is David Auclair, 45, of Williston, and they say he was shot multiple times. They have no suspects at this time.

Auclair's body was found just before 11 p.m. Thursday and the Vermont State Police crime scene unit was at the scene for most of the day Friday.

A neighbor our Dom Amato spoke with said the police presence was very unusual in their somewhat quiet neighborhood.

"Never in my backyard, they say," Dianne Deforge said.

Deforge walked outside her home on Gilman Road Friday morning to find a crime scene just a few hundred feet away at the trailhead parking lot of the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest.

"It's a little scary," she said.

Deforge says her husband said he believed he heard multiple gunshots Thursday night.

"He said they were in succession, fast," she said.

Deforge says the town forest along the LaPlatte River is visited for school trips and is utilized by many residents.

In front of a packed courtroom Friday, Angela Auclair accepted responsibility for her role in the 2019 murder of her husband, David.

It happened in July 2019 at a Hinesburg trailhead. Prosecutors say Auclair and her son, Kory George, lured David and then shot him multiple times. It’s still not clear who pulled the trigger. George was set to testify that it was his mother, but that never happened.

“If she could do this to him, what else is she capable of? My brother, my parent’s only son, did not deserve this. No one does,” said Melissa Semprebond, David’s sister, who addressed the court prior to Auclairs’s sentencing. “I ask you, if this was your brother, would you think it’s enough? Especially after hearing everything he went through.”))
