Jean-Marie investigation

Detectives continue to follow-up on leads and information regarding the disappearance of Ralph Jean-Marie from April of last year. With the assistance of the Washington County States Attorney’s Office we continue to leverage the various court processes to try and collect additional information regarding this case as well as involving other law enforcement agencies.

We have secured reward money — $5,000 — for information related to Ralph Jean-Marie’s disappearance and the individuals who are responsible. The latest press release is located on the BCPD Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/barrecitypolicevt and has been distributed to the media.

Nothing much new.

There have been multiple rumors and unfounded reports about Jean-Marie’s location, and about what might have happened to him. Investigators believe some of those stories are misdirection in an attempt to obstruct the investigation.

In response to some of the rumors, police connected with a Minnesota company, Crossmon Consulting, which used remotely operated underwater vehicles to search the quarries in Barre Town for Jean-Marie’s body or any evidence connected to his disappearance.

The police say they won't be searching quarries again without specific info about an area to search. It's apparently quite pricey. I've never spent time in quarries, but it does seem kind of needle in a haystack to find evidence that way.

This is the latest I can find Ralph mentioned.
Thanks. The impression I got from the article was LE is spending a lot of effort in suppressing their critics while not making any apparent progress on the case itself:

Morrigan thanked Thibault, which was a bit tongue-in-cheek, because they said going through this has made them a better activist because they have a better sense of how the court process works now and the “crushing weight of the legal system” they experienced by potentially being held for not giving information.

“Law enforcement does not get to act with impunity,” Morrigan said. “I feel like this has really strengthened my resolve in that, strengthened my conviction to stand up for what I believe in and to call out inappropriate and insufficient behavior by law enforcement.”

They didn’t have any details to share publicly, but Morrigan said they are still working on ways to bring more awareness to Jean-Marie’s disappearance.

ETA notes: Morrigan, the activist, goes by them/they. Thibault is the State's Attorney

“I’m trying to reinvigorate the case,” he said. “As I peruse through the files, I’m going to be asking a lot of questions, and I’m going to have the detectives following up on anything that I can find, to include possibly re-interviewing witnesses, re-interviewing the folks that have given tips before. [snip] Vail said since he’s been chief here, there have been two new leads in the case. He couldn’t give much detail because the investigation is ongoing, but he said the leads were an anonymous tip and a piece of evidence.
