BURLINGTON, Vt.The University of Vermont has postponed Tuesday night's Men's Soccer match after one of the team's player's was reported missing.

The UVM Police Department issued a release asking the public for assistance in locating 23-year-old Randy Montie, who was last seen in the area of the University of Vermont and UVM Medical Center campus around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Montie is a first-year forward on the UVM Men's soccer team and wears the #9 jersey. A freshman, Montie is from Austria and previously played for the Young Violets of Austria's Liga 2 from 2018 to 2020.

Police said that Montie's disappearance is not considered suspicious, but there is concern for his welfare.

UVM cancelled the game just hours before the 7 p.m. match against UMass was scheduled to take place.

Montie was last seen wearing an off-white jacket, a blue and whit glannel and mustard-colored turtle neck, jeans and brown baseball hat. He was also carrying a backpack.

Anyone with information about Montie's whereabout is asked to contact UVM police via the UVM LifeSafe App or by calling 802-656-3473.

Vermont's game vs. Massachusetts, scheduled for Tuesday night at Virtue Field, has been postponed, the school's athletic department announced. Montie, a freshman, hails from Austria, where he most recently competed for ASK Bad Fischau-Brunn. He was on Austria's 15-under national team in 2014.

That location is about a mile from Lake Erie, and even closer to the Winooski river.

If they would tell exactly where he's missing from/last seen, maybe it might jog people's memories.

Nice-looking athlete. The MSM article, cited above, mentioned that Randy was last seen near the university and the UVM Medical Center -- I assume if he were at the Med Center, the university, a coach or a friend would have checked.
Homesick, girl- or boyfriend problem, problem with grades, threats or bullying (doubtful, IMO), or just needed some time away?
Hoping he is okay. Maybe he is already found by now or will be soon.

I think you might mean a mile from Lake Champlain. Lake Erie is on the NW side of northern NY…near Buffalo. But, either way, to your point, close to lots of water.

I do wonder where he was immediately before he was last seen (party, restaurant), who he was with, and where he was last seen.

I teach a Freshman college class this year with a few students who are here from other countries. I worry about them even more than I usually worry about students. They just seem…for lack of a better word, vulnerable.

***Mute Point*** Found Safe

The MSM article states he was a freshman, so I would assume he was new to campus and the area. The UVM website indicates classes began on August 29th - so pretty new into the school year.

The article also reports he had a backpack...was he coming back from late-night studying? or taking some personal items with him? It doesn't seem (imo) that he would take a backpack out for a night of drinking and/or socializing.

"Vulnerable" -- that's a sad thing to hear, but upon thinking about it, it could certainly be that way, at least with some students. They hear about places the others have been, references to things that happened here back in 2001 or 2005, the soccer game in 200X (or any year when the "new guy" was not here in the US); they hear slang, see nuance that they may not understand, etc. It's gotta be tuff.
