The day a Freeman High School student shot four students, killing one, was his first day back to school after he was suspended for writing notes that appeared to warn he might commit violence.
Freeman Superintendent Randy Russell confirmed in an interview for the first time Friday that the district knew of warning notes passed out by the shooting suspect and that the school responded by suspending him.
Following the shooting, students told The Spokesman-Review that Caleb Sharpe had passed notes to his friends warning them that he planned to do “something stupid.” One of those notes was reportedly passed on to a school counselor.

Yeah, I'm unclear about that.

I used to work in a High School and I saw that happen a lot. The worst kind of impact upon a student was when their best friend 'turned on them' and they saw it as bullying.

I don't believe the victim ever was a bully. But I do think he may have begun questioning his best friends attitude and behavior. Which is why he might say ' I always knew you'd shoot up the school.' JMO

My ex next door neighbour had a 13 year old who was always being suspended from school for one reason or another, and she always claimed that he was being bullied, but when she would me the stories, to me it sounded like childhood squabbles.Often the 'bully' was a boy played with every afternoon after school.

Without minimising the effects of bullying, I really do think that some kids use it as an excuse for bad behaviour.

Wow. So he had been suspended for writing notes warning about violence and he wasn't arrested? Expelled? Committed?

Of course he could have just did what Adam Lanza did, but the school and his parents basically gave him the green light to go on a shooting rampage. His parents need to be charged too. No way, after he had been suspended for these threats, should he have had such easy access to their guns. Completely irresponsible.

I fully agree with that.

In these cases, I always have to question who the real bully is. The actual bully may perceive himself/herself as bullied because they are shunned and even ridiculed for their behavior.

I had a next door neighbor in HS who had mental issues. I was her only friend, but she took everything out on me. Another girl who rode our bus lived near the girl when they were younger and sympathized with me. She said she had been the girl's only friend at the time and the girl treated her the same way. The girl's mother even told my mother (when she called to complain because the girl had punched me in the back) that the girl probably took things out on me when the two of them had been arguing (as they had the morning the girl punched me).

Sharpe may have been angry that morning because of a dispute with his family and left home angry at the world. I worked with a woman like that. If she was angry with someone, she was angry at the whole world.

A teenager charged with killing one classmate and wounding three others at a Washington state high school in 2017 pleaded not guilty in adult court on Friday.

Judge Michael Price ruled last month that 17-year-old Caleb Sharpe, who was 15 at the time of the shootings, would be tried as an adult. Sharpe, who is being held on $1 million bail, will go on trial Oct. 7.

He faces one charge of premeditated first-degree murder, three charges of attempted first-degree murder and 51 second-degree assault charges in the shootings at Freeman High School.
