WA/Canada - Human feet washing ashore

  • #201
well, I don't believe I'll add Allan's name here, as he is completely on the east of coast of Canada...

I got it, I am out of my element on logitics here, but if anyone knows, is it a possibility based mon his last known sighting? His case has haunted me.

Could these feet be from the missing men whose families believe were killed by a serial killer?

Latest floating 'foot' turns out to be a hoax

(CNN) -- What was believed to be the sixth human foot to wash up on the shores of British Columbia in recent months proved to be a fake, authorities said Thursday.

RCMP officers use a container to carry a shoe found on a Canadian beach on Wednesday.

A "skeletonized animal paw" had been placed in a sock and athletic shoe that was packed with dried seaweed, the British Columbia Coroners Service announced.

The hoax was uncovered as the coroner's office began DNA and other forensic tests on the supposed foot in an attempt to identify the person to whom it belonged.

Is it known what condition the recovered feet were in? Was there still tissue on the feet or was it skelatel remains?

I was wondering the same thing and came in here to see if anyone knew.

A body in water will normally bloat first I think. Then as the gases dissipate and more decompensation happens (not to mention the fishy scavengers), wouldn't the shoe usually fall off? Definitely with wet skeletal remains the shoe surely couldn't stay on.

I read an article that claimed that perhaps they were the remains of victims of a plane crash. But I can't find the link now.

“Running shoes are quite buoyant,” said Mr. Ebbesmeyer, who is completing a book, “The Floating World,” to be published by HarperCollins. “They would tend to encase a foot and keep it floating. A body comes apart naturally; it’s called disarticulation. The head usually comes off first. The parts of the body that are protected will last the longest. The shoe usually floats soles up, so that might prevent the seabirds from pecking at it.” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/world/americas/04feet.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

The families of the plane crash victims found out today that the DNA from the first 3 feet found do not match their missing family members.

I saw this on LKL last night...and they one guy did say that DNA has ruled out the plane crash victims...but they said it quickly, surprised they didn't discuss this more...almost confusing...one guy mentioning the possibility it could be them, later on it mentioned DNA said no.

Going to find transcripts, good show, IMO.

KING: Dr. Kobilinsky, can you identify people from feet alone?

KOBILINSKY: Well, the answer is yes. You can extract DNA, either from whatever tissue remains or from the bone. But it doesn't do you any good unless you have something to compare it to. My understanding, at this point, is that there was this plane crash. There were four victims. But the comparisons of DNA show that there were no relationships here. So there is a mystery, who -- what is the source of these body parts?

Too bad this wasn't a simple answer to where the feet came from and closure for these families.

Yeah, it's bad enough that the police have the real feet to try to figure out without someone doing this...or could it be the same person doing it?
