A missing Bremerton woman's pickup has been found, but there is still no sign of the 83-year-old woman herself, police said Wednesday.

Carol Ferguson was last heard from on Sept. 26, when she canceled plans with a friend, according to a Silver Alert issued earlier this month.

Neighbors have seen no signs of Ferguson since then. Her pickup, a red 2000 Ford Ranger, was found Wednesday in Mason County.

Ferguson's known family members say they have not had contact with her, and she is known to keep to herself.

Police say she is an avid hiker and frequently visits the Olympic National Park area.

There are indications that suggest Ferguson's disappearance may be dementia-related, according to authorities.

Ferguson is described as a 83-year-old white female standing 5-feet-1-inch tall and weighing about 140 pounds with hazel eyes and gray hair.

LENA LAKE — Mason County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a search-and-rescue operation with tracking dogs in an effort to find a missing 83-year-old Bremerton woman.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Dracobly said a 2000 red Ford Ranger pickup truck owned by Carol Ferguson, missing for two weeks, was found at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle was found at the Putvin Trialhead off Forest Service Road 2500, according to Dracobly.

“Somebody up in area saw it and recognized it from a media release in Bremerton,” he said.

Ferguson has a history of dementia.

The search-and-rescue effort began Wednesday morning.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office asks for help from hikers, hunters, others in search for missing woman
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office on Friday asked for help from anyone hiking, hunting or scouting in the Lena Lake area to be on the lookout for a missing 83-year-old Bremerton woman.

The sheriff’s office said the search should start around the Putvin Trailhead.



“Mason County Search and Rescue, Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Surrounding Agencies are working hard to locate Carol Ferguson, a missing person out of Bremerton WA. MCSO is asking for the Public’s Assistance for anyone Hiking, Hunting or Scouting in the Lena Lake Area starting around the Putvin Trailhead (See attached images and FS.USDA Link for details of the area). If you have any information or locate Carol Ferguson we ask that you please contact our Dispatch at 360-426-4441 immediately.”

Search for missing Bremerton woman in Mason County called off
The search for an 83-year-old Bremerton woman in Olympic National Forest near Lena Lake has been called off.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search-and-rescue operation with tracking dogs in an effort to find Carol Ferguson, who has been missing more than two weeks.

Authorities were alerted to the Putvin Trailhead off Forest Service Road 2500 when they found Ferguson’s 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck at the trailhead.

“We canceled it on Saturday after a pretty lengthy search,” sheriff’s office Lt. Jason Dracobly said,

He added that the search team combed the area up and up the trail about two miles with dogs, finding no trace of Ferguson.

The search-and-rescue effort began Wednesday morning.

Ferguson was last seen in Bremerton, Washington on September 26, 2017. That day she canceled plans with a friend. She has never been heard from again.

On the morning of October 11, her red 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck was found at the Putvin Trailhead off Forest Service Road 2500 in Mason County, Washington. The vehicle had the Washington license plate number C90647B and numerous stickers and magnets on the rear bumper and tailgate; a photo of it is posted with this case summary.
