Happening nearby: Search continues for missing MLT woman

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, traffic cameras and the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center after a woman vanished Monday morning.

Cheryl DeBoer was on her way to a work carpool when she texted her friend that she forgot her work*badge and asked her friend to go on without her. Her friend said she would wait and asked how long. DeBoer said she would be ten minutes late, but never showed up.

Her friend was no longer able to reach her by phone. Police say there hasn’t been any activity on her phone since.

Family members say previous reports that DeBoer planned to take a bus are incorrect; she only planned to carpool with her friend. Her car was later found near the Transit Center overflow parking, located*in the 23400 block of 58th Avenue West.

Police call the disappearance suspicious. Now, family members and police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious Monday morning near the Transit Center to report it.

My husband and I just took a drive down to look at the area. I had never been aware of the overflow lot, or the shortcut through the woods/Veterans' Park, until toda. It definitely looks creepy in the dark, but it is starting to be light around 7:00 am and things are probably less scary then. I wonder how early the main transit center lot fills up, and if there were other cars in the overflow at the time CD would have been there. I may walk the path during daylight, out of curiosity. It appears to skirt quite a few back yards; despite being wooded, it is smack in the midst of a residential area. Also, you COULD walk to the Park and Ride along the street rather than through the park, but if you were running late, probably you would take the shortcut.

There was a news van in the main lot, but no activity other than late commuters coming home.

ETA: I see a comment on social media pertaining to when the main lot did or didn't fill up on Monday. Hmmmm.

Police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of the park and ride on the day of the disappearance between 6 AM and 9 AM please contact them. They mentioned that there have been problems at the park in the past but didn't want to address that question any further.

I'm sure the community is worried and wants this solved soon. Cheryl's safety depends on that after all.

There is a post on the Missing: Cheryl DeBoer FB page from someone who was in the main lot at 7:45 am on the morning CD disappeared. The poster states that the main parking lot was NOT full.

Thanks! I think I found that right as you were posting :). Very interesting.

I wish I weren't working this week. I would like to help search.

I really struggle with these incorrect statements put out by the media. Where do they get this misinformation and don't they verify it before they print it?? Sorry...just venting...

The conference that I am listening to now mentioned that her son and husband are too grief stricken to talk.

This may just be me, but the use of the words grief stricken seems odd. Who used those words? Are they a direct quote from someone? Each one of my kids has been 'missing' for a short time at some point in their lives (hide and seek gone wrong; gone to see a friend but wasn't home and went to a different friend and didn't say where and then forgot the time and I couldn't find her - stuff like that). I was scared. Panicked. Not grieving... To me that seems like something you do when you already know the outcome... I'm not accusing anyone here but I find the choice of words strange.

A better word might have been devastated. They probably mean the same thing by grief-stricken.

As soon as I heard that, alarm bells went off for me. It's been two days. Why grief?

I'm not trying to minimize what they're going through at ALL! But panic or fear or worry make more sense to me.

I'm very concerned. I just have to say again, how glad I am that LE is taking this is so seriously! I just wish I didn't have such a bad feeling...

Right. Devastated sounds 'normal'. I hope that's what was meant.

Thanks for not raking me over the coals. I don't mean to imply anything re. Cheryl's husband and/or son (just repeating this for myself). I was wondering if the choice of words gave anyone else pause.

I really hope she was just sick of SSDD and decided to take a break or something... just not sure if I believe that.

Is there any chance that she was suicidal?

Are there any bodies of water close to transit center on the off chance she slipped while taking the path that's been mentioned which runs through a wooded area? It's seems like she'd be easily found if that were the case but running water can tricky--trapping a body underwater against or under debris. I've been through most of the links and haven't seen anything about water mentioned. Also curious if they've brought in search dogs yet? It seems very likely she was in the area where he car was found and if they got the dogs in quickly they may be able to catch her trail before the scent starts to fade.

Looked on Google Earth of the area and don't see any bodies of water at all. It is a pretty populated area. Lots of houses. There is Veterans Memorial Park which is very wooded and secluded.
The parking lot of the transit center is full whenever these satellite photos were taken anyway.

From SN's link above:

http://www.king5.com/story/news/loc...ing-missing-mountlake-terrace-woman/80068942/

According to friends and family members, DeBoer texted her friend around 7 a.m. saying she forgot her badge and that she would catch a bus instead. The friend responded saying, how long will it take? Deboer's text back was, 10 minutes, then her friend offered to wait. DeBoer has not been seen or heard from since.

I'm presuming after the friend offered to wait but CD didn't reply, the friend eventually carried on with her journey as usual as it was CD's employers who contacted her husband in the afternoon to let him know she hadn't turned up for work that day.
Unless the friend worked with her, I dunno.

Per the press conference by the family (see message 70 in this string), CD never intended to take the bus. That was an early incorrect statement by the media.

I cannot play the video of the family press release for some reason but it doesn't matter that the part about catching a bus was a mistake. I was just stating the friend offered to wait, she presumably did for at least the 10 minutes but CD didn't arrive or respond to that text.

I wonder if where her car was parked is used by commuters as overflow? Our local park and ride lot fills in quickly and people have to get creative to park anywhere near the transit station at commuting time. This would be especially true if someone were running late, even only slightly. But with the pass still at home....
