"Many of the volunteer searchers are DeBoer's co-workers from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Others are family and friends of DeBoer and her husband, Mike."

Volunteer searchers
1 . co-workers
2. Family
3. Friends
4. Husband, Mike

Funny how we all read things a little differently. When I read it, I saw it as identifying who the searchers are:

1. volunteers
2. Cheryl's co-workers
3. friends and family of Cheryl and Mike

I know. That's what I mean. :) I see it exactly how you see it! :)

I agree. Why would Mike be listed separate from " family"?

In fact, maybe "family" includes him. But we don't know for sure.

Not that I've seen. I've seen a couple articles about the press conference and why he wasn't there, one saying he was too distraught http://q13fox.com/2016/02/10/police-searching-for-woman-missing-in-suspicious-circumstances/ and the other saying he was too grief-stricken http://mltnews.com/search-continues-for-missing-woman/.

Which I suppose is a perfectly natural reaction for a husband who's wife just vanished into thin air.

Perfectly understandable to want to avoid cameras and the press when dealing with grief....but not to help search....not so sure. I guess everyone processes things differently and we still don't know who was involved in the search for sure. I'd want to search but maybe others would let family/friends handle it.

Well, I would HOPE that her husband would be searching for her.

If he isn't or hasn't, that says a lot, in my opinion.

  • #466
Has the family even said that Mike misses and loves her very much?
It has been said in a MSM article that Cheryl talked about her son and seemed to be in love with her husband.
Has the family mentioned the husband, other than he was grief stricken?
I find it to be strange that he isn't mentioned.Maybe I just haven't read all the articles.
I can understand being overwhelmed with sadness. I can't understand not searching for her, if that is the case.

IMOO.

And the thing is, if the punctuation is not correct, then it could mean that he was searching as well. And I say this, because in a different article, the choice of the words FOWL PLAY versus FOUL PLAY. Fowl play sounds like chickens engaging in something!! So the choice of words, spelling, and punctuation enhance comprehension of the written word.

IMOO.

You are quite right! :)

That's how I interpreted it as well. The alternative interpretation indicates that the family and friends are just those of Cheryl and not Mike. With the mistakes made in MSM I would guess only the reporter truly knows who was out there and the correct interpretation.

I don't know, we all seem to think we know what WE would do in such a nightmare situation but unless we've been in one, we really don't know for sure. I know I *think* I'd like to be out there searching but what if LE said it would be better if I stayed home in case of this or that? Or what if I was just too much of an emotional basket case to really be of practical use on a search? We just don't really know. I do know my husband though, and if I went missing he'd be an utter mess.

And I see the word "Others" meaning family and friends of Cheryl and her husband,Mike.

It's ok. We all can agree to disagree! :)

I see it this way too but, over on CD's missing FB page someone asks if her husband has been out searching. The reply, an hour ago by DD was, 'yes, every day!'
He probably really doesn't want to be in front of the cameras.

Eta: correct initials of who replied on FB, sorry.

I would too but I'm envisioning a husband like mine who is middle aged and healthy and would probably be angered at the thought of me going missing on my own or at the hands of someone else....as well as grief stricken.. I think he'd want to be out there. From my involvement on this forum, he'd also know how his actions were being monitored so he'd want to dispell the appearance of aloofness. I have no idea if Cheryl's husband is old/young - physically able to search, aware that his actions are speaking volumes to some, etc. If someone who knew her planned to harm her - I think those closest would not have chosen this time of the day and perhaps instead a non-working time. While others who knew her , but were not so close - perhaps only had access to her during this small window of her routine.

These are the posts that I got the info that she had stopped for coffee. After searching for them, putting them together, it appears they may be speculation?

idfinch or Stripehaven do you have links regarding the espresso stand?

Sorry it took me so long. Started looking last night and fell asleep. My iPad is not cooperating with select today. grrr.

Also, the surveillance from an espresso stand. If it's the one in the same lot as DD Meats, I'm wondering if there's question as to who drove the car from home to 58th or who was with her?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I hadn't heard that there was surveillance video from an espresso stand. Did they find the coffee cup in her car? Or discarded in the park, perhaps? Does the barista remember seeing her/did it seem like anything was wrong?

ETA: idfinch and Stripehaven I have just read your latest posts on this espresso stand. Thanks for clearing it up. It was mentioned in a news article as a place close to where Cheryl works. There is no video. I apologize to my WS friends for stating a misfact!

I have been on a search for Ksenia Quiros who went missing here in Colorado Springs.
She was found deceased. My husband and I did not find her, someone else did, but we were out there in the snow searching in April in all kinds of crazy weather.

Link for Ksenia being found:

(There is also a thread for Ksenia on WS.)

I know I would be out searching even if I was an utter mess. My personality would not let me stay home. I would be searching from morning until night.
IMOO.

A spouse may not go out searching in fear of what they might find. How traumatizing would it be to find your spouse dead in a park, etc? She's been gone almost a week, the reality is she probably isn't with us anymore.

That's good enough for me. (facebook source)

I am sure it would be traumatizing to find your spouse dead.
It is traumatizing knowing that she is missing.
If I did not search, then all of those what if's would be going through my head.
What if she is injured and I didn't search. I could have found her and saved her.
If she is deceased, finding her would ensure a proper burial.
It would give closure.
I would have to search. I would just have to.

I think I'd have to as well, my worry and anxiety would be so bad I could not just sit in a house and wait.

Are there parking restrictions where CD's car was found? Is it possible that it could have been parked there overnight? If she normally drives a jeep, that might be a car that would attract attention or be vulnerable for theft where the car she drove that morning would not call attention to itself.

Just some thoughts. The morning time with all the commuters is a busy and risky time to abduct a person. Cheryl did not leave on her own. IMO.
