There is a post on this thread that states that her mother reported that her badge and orca card (orca is a local public transit pass) were at home.

If I were a 4 minute drive from home, I would go get my badge. I would also offer to take the bus so I didn't hold up the carpool. But I would probably know they'd wait for me. At her level, I am pretty confident that she had some flexibility as to her arrival and end of the workday.

So if her badge was still at home it would suggest either:
(1) she never made it back home after texting her carpool; something might have happened to her in the place she pulled over to send the text, or somewhere along the route home (if it really only takes 4 minutes, that is not a large window of opportunity). The timing of the text could therefore almost pinpoint the time of the crime.

OR

(2) The crime was committed earlier (maybe the night before or first thing in the morning) by somebody in her personal life. This person dumped her body and then planted her car to make it look like she was abducted on her way to work. Even if the murder was well planned, in the heat of the moment this person may have forgot to take her badge to stage the crime, so had to send the text in the morning as a 'cover up' for why there would be no badge with her body. Also, gives an excuse to miss carpool, which broadens the mystery and buys more time before she would be reported as 'missing'.

I think LE said she was found on the SW corner of the intersection. Cedar Way runs north/south. Can you tell which side of Cedar Way that property is on? 244th T-bones Cedar from the west. The property on the east side of Cedar, where the T-bone happens, used to have a house on it. It was demolished a few years ago and there is no structure now. I don't recall ever seeing a for-sale sign there. BTW, that whole east side is really brushy. And unoccupied.

On the southWEST corner, if I recall, there is a house, but I seem to think it is quite elevated above the street with perhaps brush below it at street level (but don't quote me). Also don't know if that has been for sale recently.

Here is a street view looking SSE down Cedar Way from the T at 244SW St. The image is from Nov 2015 according to google and there is a "For Sale" out front of the property directly to the south.

I am not sure we can take this video at face value. It was posted by a user whose alias was created days ago. It cites no sources and can really not be deemed to be MSM.
Thanks! My thoughts, exactly!

The information about her carpool is in a video press conference that was posted today.
Oh, my bad then. Sorry. I have been reading but there are always things that we miss and that was one. I never knew about that. So... for me only the husband is to look deeply. The usual suspect...

Poor Cheryl. I´ve seen many persons saying she was a soft and kind person with a big heart :(

Slightly O/T, but I am reading the updated book on Bundy by Ann Rule, "The Stranger Beside Me" and it's both riveting and horrifying. (I live in Seattle, too, but only for the last 15 years.) I am trying my hardest not to jump to conclusions but I am thinking the car is staged and it's very possibly a crime that would fall into what the statistics would point to--someone who knows her. (And in this case, someone would have access to her car.)

O/T but I'm reading this, too!

Right, Feb 8, the day she went missing. But I think a lot of posters thoughts and theories (mine included) were leaning towards perhaps she never left her house that morning and had already been placed in the culvert area the night before under the cover of darkness.

But this tells me LE believes she was alive as of AM Feb 8. If they thought perhaps something had happened to her prior to that I think they would have included the day before in their timeline of inquiry.

I don't think it means that. Say they did ask for information from the night before (on the 7th)...that would certainly tip their hand as it would certainly imply they didn't believe the husband, texts she sent and that she drove her car to the library area. If so, it would only implicate one person at this point.

Yes, but to build on my prior post, I think, just imagining the most common/likely actions - she would have driven directly to the transit lot to meet her carpool.

We've been told that the well lit, camera covered area was available. I think it would have been where she originally parked that she discovered she didn't have her badge. It seems logical that she would have then sent her friend a text. I can't fathom a scenario that would have made her decide to drive to and or stop to text her friend from anywhere other than the garage.. Especially not the over flow lot by the creepy wooded area where she knew a man had been attacked in January.

If she went to the garage, there would be a video of her driving into or out of that garage.

But if I didn't want anyone to see me, I would drive somewhere that had no lights or cameras.

From your link:

Police said evidence was found at the scene where the body was recovered, but would not comment on what the evidence was. When asked if residents should be worried for their safety, police said they did not see a concern.

The officer at the news conference said there were personal items belonging to DeBoer that they were looking for, but would not say what they were or what had been found on her cellphone records.

Trying to think outside the box I'm currently in...

But if she didn't send the text message, I am unable to make myself believe that a stranger sent it. I just don't know why they would bother.

Meanwhile, investigators are asking anyone who noticed anything suspicious between 7 a.m. on Feb. 8 and 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 around the area of the park and ride, nearby library, or the area where DeBoer’s body was found, to contact police.

If she was found inside the culvert itself, rather than simply tossed over the edge of it, then someone would've had to park in the same vicinity those cars are seen in order to do it. The cops asked today in the press conference for anyone that had seen any kind of activity in that area from 2/8 until 2/14 to come forward with that information.

If this happened at 2 A.M., there's a good chance nobody may come forward. If it happened at 8:00 A.M. on Monday morning, somebody well might come forward. Saying they are interested in activity taking place there anytime during the entire 6 day period, makes me wonder if maybe they are leaning towards her being held somewhere for awhile and then placed there sometime during the week.

Two things about this KIRO7 news story:
-The presenter announces the wooded area on the map is "the area where the body is found". The culvert is actually at least 1 mile away (SE) from the area shown. Sheesh :(
-The footage of the culvert shows the water running from East to West. I wonder if the body was placed in the more secluded Eastern end of the culvert but wet weather moved the body/evidence towards the Western end. Earlier footage of the scene shows a tent set up on the east side of Cedar Way but also investigators with lights focusing on the western side.

I've been wondering about the text message and how her phone was set up. I have my security settings to require a password whenever the phone idles. I can see incoming text messages but to respond, I need to enter that password to get to the screen. I know some people think that is a pain but it would prevent someone from making calls or texts on my phone should I lose it. I wonder what CD had as far as security settings. If she did not send that text and had similar security on her phone - the person would have had to known her code in order to respond and that would require CD to still be alive to give it or they were close to her and knew it. I can envision perhaps she was sitting in the car texting her friend and her doors may have been unlocked and someone jumped in....and took her phone. But I don't see a stranger being much interesting in returning texts let alone knowing about her badge left at home if it were a complete stranger.

This Seattle times article says she was found in grass:

"Around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a group of volunteers found the body in a large, grassy area maintained by the city near 244th Street Southwest and Cedar Way, about a mile and a half southeast of where DeBoer’s vehicle had been located, Pickard said during a Sunday afternoon media briefing."

And Kiro7 Twitter has a good pic of the area. image.jpeg

I agree - any activity that might have taken place during the night could easily have gone completely undetected; it's a dark and very non-busy area at night. There are some commercial pockets on both Cedar (AKA 44th W to the north) and also 244th. Let's hope she was transported by cameras that show a car or person that is recognized quickly, and that helps LE zero in on a theory.

This is confusing. Cmdr. Pickard said she was found on the SW corner of 244th/Cedar. The large grassy area is on the north side of 244th. It's a big clear area under a series of those huge "iron man" electical transformer thingies - whatever they're called. And the grassy part is wide open; she could have been spotted from the road, I would think. Weird.

ETA: Ok, my husband just plopped the Everett Herald in my lap. Their front-page story says she was found "in a culvert." These inconsistencies hurt my head. I guess as long as the investigators really know what is going on, I need to take a deep breath.

I think it's just natural since we know it can and did happen right where we live. I grew up just across the water and was a kid during Bundy's time and in my late teens during Ridgeway's time. So, I get it too.

That said, I don't think whoever took Cheryl away was a stranger or a serial killer or even a one-off stranger killer. It all just feels too "tidy" for a random act. The text that allowed for time ("go on ahead, I'll take the bus"), then the phone activity stops then her car located right near the park & ride. I'm not convinced she drove anywhere last Monday morning and since now LE is not saying by whom and where she was last seen (physically seen) I'm not so sure they're convinced of that either.

moo.
Jessica Ridgeway was last seen by her mother when she left the house to go to school. She did not arrive at school. Later, her remains were found in a culvert. Did that mean that her mother murdered her and left her in a culvert? No. Did police alert the community that a madman was on the loose? No. How was the actual perpetrator caught? He dropped a personal item at the scene of the body disposal.

I believe OntarioMom was referring to Gary Ridgway aka the Green River Killer, who was also active in the greater Seattle area.
