I thought so, too, but after looking at some of her sweet family members, it started to get too painful to think this way. :( I knew I shouldn't have looked. I'm having a hard time being objective, now.

I'm so confused and deeply saddened that this happened to her.

BINGO!!! While my first instinct is the most likely, and most probable, after seeing so many comments from her loved ones on the news media threads, it broke me. Not sure why so much more than other cases, but it has. I don't want that for Cheryl.

To any family reading, my prayers are with you each to deal with the pain, and loss. Prayers to be able to accept God's plan, even when we can't possible understand the why. I've told my family that if I'm ever murdered, to please know that someone can take my life, but they can never take my soul. We'll meet again!

Oh, thank you for saying this! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Her son just broke my heart last night. He seems like such a dear man. Ugh. This is awful. My heart, love and hugs go out to this family.

May resolution and justice be swift.

Re: locking doors comments way up thread, TBH when putting myself in her position, my doors probably wouldn't be locked. They kind of never are, especially if I'm in the car. It's just really really really safe up here. (I know it's dumb anyway =P)

Yes, the poor son!!! My sister and I were talking about how this so could have been our mom, a healthy, smart, working empty-nester with her own life and schedule...

This case hits me in a specific way, being so close to home and being such a familiar woman. She reminds me of a ton of different moms I know personally (and I know several people who did know her) . So now it occurs to us 20-somethings that bad things can happen to our moms... I want to find out who did this and see them burn =(

So the question is, why did he have this phone call update? Since he didn't really have any news, I believe the most important point for Pickart was to ask again for tips. Which means they have nothing?

Tips beginning at 7:00 am Monday which suggests the police don't believe she was put there the night before.

I think the station may have contacted him. He seems committed to maintaining a good relationship with the media.

Or they don't want to tip their hand about any suspicions. Or If they don't hear of any sightings during that timeframe, it would narrow things down. And I am sure if anyone saw something fishy the previous night or earlier, they would report that, too.

Good observation! So LE likely believes she was at the p&r that morning and the fateful chain of events started there.

That's a good point: If the station contacted him, rather than it being a formal press release of new information/status quo maintained, it could mean we can still expect ME news later today...
Trying to be hopeful here as the re-examining of the culvert (after it was opened again and had media crews and grievers tramping up and down) doesn't inspire thoughts of a quick resolution. Maybe they recovered a phone first time round and later noticed sim card and/or battery missing?!?

Respectfully, I don't necessarily think so. To ask for sightings prior to 7:00 Monday would essentially call the husband a liar. They may or may not believe him, but without contradictory info they are willing to publicize, they really can't call him out in public. Plus, if they do have info against him, they may not be ready to rip their hand just yet.

“At this time we don’t see a concern for people’s safety or threats to others,” said Pickard."

I never like the sound of "no concern or threats to people's safety" when discussing a case. Although I would like a case to be solved, either they have someone in custody or they are looking at someone close. My guess it might be someone close. Ughhhh.

In my opinion, I believe she may be missing her glasses. I don't recall which video or MSM article it was, but, the police spokesman asked people to look for anything they may have seen on the sidewalk etc. That , IMO says that it may be something smaller they are looking for.

This has probably been noted and discussed already, but I just came across it.

I still think that this was a stranger abduction with the intent of robbery, which would explain why her personal items are missing. I know people from that area have stated it is too busy for something like this to go unnoticed but what if someone quickly pulled up beside her, flashed a gun at her and told her to get in their car. If you were walking along or getting out of your car and someone accosted you with a gun, would you risk it and scream or go with them willingly? I think in the presence of a gun most of us would be too afraid to scream. I don’t think she ever left the area, I think she was quickly taken to a nearby location, robbed, killed and then dumped into the culvert.

But would a robber really expect that an unknown random commuter had anything worth stealing (well, maybe she was carrying a laptop)? And would a robber want to complicate their life by acquiring a person to dispose of? I would think a robber would simply demand whatever they wanted, then get the hell out of dodge - especially if they were taking this huge risk with all the other commuters in the area.

Also, this is really close to the police station. I would expect a robber looking for a random victim to be virtually anywhere else.

I know crazy things do happen, and many perps are stupid and reckless, though, so anything is possible.

What if someone disabled her jeep so she had to take the white car - and they were hiding in the white car when she got in it?

Seems like LE would figure out pretty quickly if someone had tampered with the jeep though.

I think most of us are approaching this as "What would I do?" Or "What would the average person do?" I think it helps to have lots of different perspectives.

Right. Personally, just because I throw out a theory, doesn't mean that's what I think happened (unless I say that that's what I think ;) ). I like to look at all angles and throw all possibilities out there and then whittle it down. I am a fan of KISS (keeping it simple) and in most cases, it is simple. But since we're not privvy to inside information that LE is, my approach is different from what theirs would be (working from the inside out). It wouldn't be the first time a case turned out to be outlandish after all. So, different perspectives and theories IMO are an absolute must.

Ever met a junkie addicted to hardcore drugs and desperate for a fix? They don’t use logic, they will do anything to get money, they don’t care how they have to get it.
