Morning everyone! :)

I see we are still trying to figure whether she was intending to catch the bus or not. Confusing reporting, that's for sure.

If the perp sent the texts it definitely would have been a good move to make the carpool friend think Cheryl was taking the bus. Then C's friend wouldn't wait around and wonder where Cheryl is and call again. Cheryl being discovered missing would be postponed, giving the perp more time.

I hope the new week will bring us some answers!

I think the finger cuts were from her trying to escape from wherever she was kept or if she was in a trunk.

Well I have now read 10 pages in this third thread and there is nothing new!

How and why has the discussion on whether Cheryl's intent on riding the bus after returning from picking her badge up at home taken so many pages? One can only dissect her text so many ways!

It must have been a very boring Sunday afternoon.

I would say that it is a lot of interested people.
I don't find that to mean a boring Sunday afternoon.
Everyone has ideas. The ideas might differ from you or me, or they might be the same.
Point is people have ideas and want to share them. Nothing wrong in that.

Too bad there isn't anything new.
This rehashed information might be new to others, though.
IMOO.

I don't quite understand your post. The bolded above is precisely what I do not see.

I am not the OP, but I take this to mean that a random perp would not have known that it would indeed have taken Cheryl 10 minutes to get home and back. So either she or someone who knew her routine must have sent the text.

And my own thought: why would a perp send a text that might encourage the carpool friends to wait around or even possibly start looking for Cheryl when she did not return? Why not send "I am running late - see you at work" or whatever.

Can someone remind me when we last heard directly from LE, please? What was the last thing that was said officially?

  • #166
It either really was CD who sent the text saying that her trip home and back would take 10 minutes or it was someone who knew where she lived. People commute to that park and ride from all over the place and many of those places take a lot longer than 10 minutes round trip.

And perhaps the reverse is true, here, that the friend didn't know where Cheryl lived, since the friend asked how long it would take for Cheryl to retrieve her badge? Which seems odd to me, if they have carpooled together before. It seems how far they each had to travel to meet up to carpool would have come up in even casual conversation.

I guess my point was that if someone besides CD typed that text saying the trip home and back would take 10 minutes, then they must have known that the trip would really have taken 10 minutes (which it does). If the person typing the text was a stranger to CD, they would have to guess how long the trip would take because they didn't know where she lived. What if CD normally commuted to the park and ride from Everett? Then the trip home and back would take a lot longer than 10 minutes.

Cheryl was a smart woman, maybe the self inflicted cuts were her way of leaving DNA behind.

Do we have any verification that the DeBoer home surveillance captured Cheryl leaving home?

Thank you for the photos of the trail. I wouldn't walk it under any circumstance. How does a community support and encourage a pedestrian trail from a transit area that has people living in it's woods? Am I crazy?

i agree. the terms he used is there are people who "camp out". i think if someones there long term and its obvious, they tell them to move on, but it has to be made evident to them. sounds sketchy and dangerous. it seems actually like a fun trail to me, but also a dangerous one.

Sorry to be just replying to a post from 7 hours ago but just catching up.

I wholeheartedly believe this family and what they said at the presser on the 10th Feb.

But I don't think we can assume that the commander Pickard made an assumption when he said she would take the bus at the presser on Feb 14/15th.

I think it's just going to be one of those points we never get clarity on.

I'm a bit perplexed and upset about the police being cagey and going back and forth. Saying there's nothing in the car of interest they found, then saying there's blood. Saying the community doesn't need to be vigilant, then saying they need to be. Then that. Like, really no explanation? I think the community is owed one. It's been two weeks.....how come nothing's been said about who's blood that is? no new news? :( Cheryl deserves justice.

I still can't get past the possibility that CD had alternate plans that morning. Call me crazy, but I believe she left the badge at home on purpose. Parked close, but not exactly where she normally parked. IMO she sent the texts herself - Paraphrasing "forgot my badge, go without me", "it will take 10 minutes, I might ride home with you" and when she gets the "I will wait for you" text she's like - stop asking so many questions and powers her phone off. I think she willing got into a car with someone else and things turned bad from there. I think the cuts on her fingers are from a broken smart phone that may have been dropped and struggled over.

There are just too many coincidences for me:
-forgot her badge
-drove a different vehicle that morning
-dismissed her normal ride
-found deceased

Random doesn't work for me, but I do believe the family is innocent.

One more thing I have wondered - who normally left home first, CD or her husband? or did they normally leave at the same time and CD was "running late" that morning? Unless CD normally left after her husband, that is yet another "coincidence".

JMO MOO.....

maybe they were just asking how long it would take for her to find her badge, not necessarily how long the trip there and back would take.

in the family presser, her family said she normally parks there when the garage is full and walks that path. the police officer then said the garage is usually full at that time and she walked down that path. ive broken my smart phone, it never cut me, and most of my friends phones who have broken havent cut them, either. your theory does seem logical, though. i have always had the feeling the text situation was just too convenient on this day she also went missing. she didnt drive a different vehicle that morning, her family i believe said at some point the jeep was sold like a year ago. i agree about the family being innocent.

I agree. We have no shortage of woods and trails (even in cities) here in the PNW, but there is nothing very pleasant, fun or even convenient about that particular path from 58th to the park and ride lot. It is not special. It's just a little dark and kinda creepy. I can't imagine the city closing it down (it's not THAT bad) but it's weird if it's a route that's encouraged.

You've articulated what's been on my mind, too.

The idea that she usually drives a different car stems from a social media post on the initial news article. This could be 100% false, unless I missed where this was actually reported??

There's always the possibility that Cheryl was forced to write some of the texts. If the perp interrupted her while texting and realized that someone is waiting for Cheryl, they might have told her "write 10 minutes" or "write you will take the bus". jmo

I'm intrigued by the thought Teatime posted earlier (can't find the post right now) that Cheryl might have deliberately cut her fingers to leave a sign in the car. Perhaps to indicate that a crime occurred, that she was injured, that this was not voluntary?

I'm also upset. From what I see in msm and sm the local community is very worried. Some things should be explained. I hope they will do that this week.

Me too!

I'm hoping that the reason they've been fairly quiet for a few days is that they're very much onto someone.
I also hope there's more information in the next couple of days. The community will be hearing allsorts of rumours and if LE can just give enough information to give some reassurance it would help.
