it isn't heavily walked. it took a week to find her body, and even then it was only because of searchers..or maybe a day??? who knows how long... :( maybe the perp wanted her to be found? i mean you cant really see down into the wooded side of the culvert from your car, can you?

Definitely not a lot of foot traffic, I think partially due in part to the heavy vehicle traffic. I do not disagree that once a body is in the culvert it would be hard to spot, it's the act of getting it in there that I think would be hard to do unnoticed. Obviously they were successful, I'm just saying it's risky. There are certainly more secluded places not too far away.

Question for the locals - are their any taxis that sit around the P&R? Video shows CDs car on the ride to that area but nothing has been confirmed (yet) about leaving that area. We also don't know if her car was used or another . I was just wondering if lack of parking was such that CD didn't want to risk losing her spot so she thought she'd grab a ride home/back. I can't imagine parking being so tight that no spot would be open in the 10 mins it would take but I am going through scenarios that would involve a willing passenger without a struggle.

I don't see that parking near the trail would ever be so crazy you couldn't find a space. It's not that bad at all.

I did not see any cabs but I just opened up my uber and Lyft apps and they are around the area right now. Not sure if she would ever use those- but anything is possible.

You can't even see down into it if you're walking unless you go over and peer down into it. Even then, there is a lot of grass and sticks and the ditch seemed deep. It actually seemed like reasonable hiding place of you were in a hurry. The perp had to know it would obviously discovered, but maybe not immediately?

Even if you were a Local you wouldn't know it was there unless you went tramping around in ditches! So it may have been someone who understood the nature of a culvert.

We don't know the position of Cheryl's body in the culvert.
Most likely she was rolled down into it.

Then maybe they were seen because that would take a little time.

Or maybe the scenario you describe below occurred except instead of the "friend" hopping into CDs car, CD asked the "friend" for a ride to her house and back to retrieve her badge so that she didn't have to move her car out of its prime spot. That would explain why CDs car wasn't seen on the surveillance video again heading back in the direction of her house moments after it was seen the first time at 7:00 heading to the parking spot. It would also explain why nobody saw anything odd or out of place that morning (such as CD being robbed, mugged or otherwise attacked)mom the street. If any witnesses were present, they would have simply seen CD getting into a car with a "friend".
I believe we have a similar scenario here as in the Whitney Heichel murder. Unbeknownst to her, Whitney had a neighbor/church acquaintance who was obsessed with her. One morning, she was about to drive to work he approached and asked her for a ride. She invited him into her car where he pulled a gun out and forced her to drive to a remote location, where he raped and killed her. He dumped her there, drove her car around for some time, scattering her belongings into trash cans and bushes. Then he left the car at some parking lot.

Maybe Cheryl also gave someone she knew a ride. When she was parking and texting he could have walked up to her car - "Oh hi Cheryl, good parking spot you found here!" - "Yea but I gotta let it go, I forgot something at home, gotta go back." - "Oh would you mind giving me a ride, I'm a bit in a hurry this morning." - "Sure! Hop in!" Then he pulled a gun, powered the phone down, committed the crime in a remote spot, dumped her body (or moved it to his own car and dumped it at night), and drove her car back to where he found her in the morning. I think this all can be done in less than 2 hours.

Something like this has been my theory for some time now, it feels most likely to me.

Alright. I am home. I spent awhile in MLT today. I started at the corner of her street and traveled to where her car was found which was near the entrance of the trail that leads to the transit center. I did walk the trail and the little trails that go off into the park. I had never been there before, but found it to be a nice place. I didn't get any weird vibes at all. Perhaps it had been cleaned up but I saw nothing unusual or sketchy about the place.

I was thinking that even if it was not all the way light out she has likely been walking that same trail for many moons since she has worked at the hutch for so many years so she was likely very comfortable. I think it's interesting that she had mentioned to friends that it was creepy- but I also think that had there been some sketchy stuff going on there it was cleared out by LE over the last few weeks which may be why it felt perfectly fine to me.

It also makes perfect sense WHY she would park there even if the transit lot was full. It is likely a lot less congested in the afternoon when she comes home if she parks near the library.

The other thing that I immediately thought of when I saw the culvert was that it could have been an "a-ha that is where I am dumping her" moment for the perp. It seems sudden and an odd place. There is a lot of traffic on that road. I have been on that road a lot even at night and it gets a fair amount of traffic since it leads into Lake Forest Park. I truly believe she was hurt/killed at her car and taken to another vehicle. I do not believe she was dumped that day. Not in the daytime. No way. I parked and watched the flow of traffic and there were just too many people going by on an average day. It had to be later on.

Sidenote, another poster mentioned that a failed kidnapping took place a little while ago. That happened in *my* neighborhood. Although, I live on the other side of the hood in which it happened I keep going back to it. I am wondering if this situation is completely random and that it is a serial killer situation in the making. I hate to say that but of course my head is spinning with ideas. Here is the video of that failed abduction:

http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2016/02/police-release-video-of-capitol-hill-kidnapping-attempt/

Wow. I didn't know about that. That's not my hood but fairly close (2-3 miles from my house and 1 mile from work). Is there an age on the victim? That was pretty ballsy. And the truck is not exactly small and forgettable. I doubt someone like that strikes just once. Hmmm.

ETA: that location was also just blocks off I-5.

Taxis are a pretty uncommon sight up here. I see maybe 1 to 5 a month. And, they typically need to be called to arrange a pick-up, they don't just linger around looking for a fare like they do in more urban areas.

im sure some people think the creek is a good area if they were thinking about this, not necessarily that area, but driven around until they found a good spot. maybe that just signals that this isnt random and is premeditated. ? but then committing this crime at the bus depot so close to the library is risky, but maybe it was a heat of the moment type thing but one they had been planning?

The victim was 29 and it was around midnight. Bless her for her bravery and fighting the good fight!
I'm not sure the MO fits here but I would like to thrash out the theory/rumor that is playing out in SM. What do we think about a multiple assailant sexual attack? I am horrified but I was also shocked and horrified hearing about "Return of Kings" earlier this month...the world is full of sick whackos and sometimes they get together.

Yeah. It's crazy, huh. I've been looking for info on updates or leads and nothing at all.

Even though that was late/very early it's a fairly busy part of the neighborhood vs my area by volunteer park. You can see oncoming cars in that short clip and no doubt others were also walking around. Unsettling to say the least.

hdk said parking there isnt crazy busy, but someone earlier that lives in the area said it sometimes can be. however, i saw in another thread that she parked across the street from the park, so that would explain why her car wouldn't be seen on camera. also, it wouldnt surprise me if the perp avoided main, busy, congested roads to avoid being seen both in camera and by less people, so that would explain why they werent on camera the second time. however, since the car was found across the street from the park, then that person would've had to do a uturn if they took her car.

i dont think multiple people were involved. thats not common at all in crimes like this, and when it is, its usually on younger people.

ETA: i had asked about return of kings, i googled it. thats just gross. i dont think theyre very well welcomed in the area, so doubt they were involved. horrified non the less.

she left her house, drove towards the bus depot to meet her carpool friends (she drove to the carpool meeting location at the bus depot to ride with them, i believe she typically rides the bus home?). her car was caught on video around 7:00 maybe like 30-45 seconds away from the residential area she parked at. she parked on a residential street right next to a park. at the park, there is a wooded path that leads beyond the park and through the woods and out the other side is the bus depot parking lot. around two minutes after she was seen on video, was when she sent the text about her badge. that is why i believe she was abducted on the path. i suck at simplifying things sometimes, hope this helps.

in the video at 12:40 the police officer said she walked down that path. not sure why he said it was gravel, though, when it is dirt?

There actually a few entries to the path...one being a playground. I seem to remember gravel maybe being at the head of one of the paths. They didn't say that she took that path that morning for sure, did they? I will go back and watch if no one knows!!!

Briefly, Return of Kings probably refers to a "men's rights" group that advocates legalizing rape in the home. No, you didn't misread that. I'm not sure how it ties into the post you quoted or this case, but I'd recommend not googling it if you want to sleep tonight.

Return of Kings is a horrible group. They are led by a man that believes and promotes what he considers "legal rape" -- actually they recently had a meetup in Seattle. I'm doing some research on other areas (the only one I know of for sure was downtown Seattle) - Google them. These men are very real and very frightening

Okay. The meetings were worldwide feb 6. They had several meeting locations. Roosh removed the meeting spots from the page- but... I know for certain there was more than one location in Seattle/outside of because the listed came across my fb. They often met at public libraries. I will try to find things to back this up but I am just realizing how weird the date of the meeting is. Ugh.

EDITED TO ADD: it appears that it was at random areas, but libraries are certainly on this list. I remember the library tidbit because when my cousin originally shared it on fb it discussed the fact that a library would host the group- which was probably just a misunderstanding since they likely meet OUTSIDE and not in a room or something. Anyway, they have removed it from their website, but this cached page still shows the meeting locations. I am not sure sharing this link is against the rules. If it is please let me know and I will remove it.

I don't know anything about "Return of Kings"! But it sounds ominous in the context we're talking about. My gut doesn't say multiple people at 7 AM, but I clearly have no clue. It seems hard to believe one person could be freakish enough to do this, even worse that there could be multiple.

So, age is wrong for the MO of extended blue cab guy. But woman alone at non-daytime hour--at 5' 6" and 130 lbs, CD was slim, medium length hair. From behind, her age might not be apparent. I am sure LE has ruled out that dude. But still creepy that so many freaks are around.
