Found Deceased WA - Cheryl DeBoer, 54, Mountlake Terrace, 8 February 2016 #3

I think it is a family that likes to keep themselves, to themselves. Cheryl herself had very little 'out there' on the web and from the day of her disappearance, the immediate family have kept a very low profile with just a single press conference that involved family members. We did not see appeals to the public, 'thank-yous' to searchers and police or requests for privacy. I really respect the decision, whether active or passive, to keep out of the public eye. I am not sure any members of the immediate family would share information, even if that had it. They have probably been instructed by police to keep schtum.

This being the case, the info we are seeing, whether it be comments below a news story on MSM, posts on SM by fringe-dwellers (and by this I mean friends of friends, past colleagues, shop assistants etc), observations by locals etc...all of it really amounts to nothing when unsubstantiated by LE or sourced MSM. I believe the press is trying very hard to get more information and even trying to force the hand of LE by printing pieces such as the Seattle Times article mentioning MLT residents were arming themselves!

Knowing next to nothing gives us plenty of time and creative freedom to fill the gaps around our sparse facts with theories, those probable or not so probable. It has been interesting hanging out here for the last week or two as I believe whether you agree with a person's theory or not that most here are at least patient and willing to thrash an idea out. Most that are here, are here with the genuine intent to find answers and not to troll or grandstand and that has meant for good reading and discussion. I hope we get some answers soon, for although I am a country's width away, I feel for the MTL locals and hope for answers for Cheryl's family.

It seems he family is posting on SM for anyone with info on this crime to contact police.

To me that seems they aren't on the suicide theory at all. But it also means that the other SM post may just be rumors. Or it's true and they have absolutely no clue who the bad guy is. IMO

They are, but they are asking for any "Clues" as to what happened. That could mean people to support a theory they are already going with. The crimestoppers reward is only $1,000. One might think that would be much higher if they were looking for a random killer or needed "fresh" suspects.

The warning police issued about being vigilant seems to lack any teeth. It is standard stuff we should all be doing anyway. Basically, be aware, pay attention and don't look like someone who could be easily victimized. I'm not sold on the idea of suicide, believe me. Just as with other theories, some things fit and others don't seem to fit. But the strange silence makes me think the risk is less than we are assuming.

I just wanted to say that the family did thank searchers. It was on either the son's FB or the Missing Cheryl FB. They were most appreciative of the way the community turned out and supported them.

They did appeal to the public that was the whole purpose of the conference they said, they thanked the police and others who had been helping in the presser...

Please know I wasn't implying the family did not acknowledge or appreciate the efforts of searchers or police, it's just that they didn't do so in a public way. This surely doesn't negate the gesture or the sentiment, it just gives less visability.

When I looked up how it works, this is what I found: "By offering cash rewards up to a $1,000 for information leading to indictment and arrests, the program encourages otherwise reluctant callers to provide information. Tips that lead to an arrest and felony charges of a suspect are eligible for a reward. Investigating officers decide which tip was most helpful for solving their case."

I'm so sorry - I didn't mean to imply you were slamming the family, Eucalyptuz. You're right, they were not super visible when they made their thank-yous.

Did the dad and son appear at a press conference? I saw a niece at one, but not the others. But I don't know that I saw everything; probably not.

I am not questioning behaviour. If I myself or my family were in the Deboer's shoes I'm sure our public profile would be similar. Private and in contrast to many Missing Persons' cases we see here on WS.

Wow, crime stoppers, which works in conjunction with police, is calling Cheryl Deboer's case a homicide. I don't believe they would be able to post on crime stoppers without police approval, seeing how police are the ones who approve rewards, and i dont imagine the police would be ok with them saying that if it wasn't true.

I believe the family is leaning towards foul play, people who are friends with the family on fb have commented about finding justice and whoever did this to her, and the family did not delete those comments. However, a lot of families don't want to believer their loved one would commit suicide. (not saying i feel Cheryl did that, js).

i just dont understand how a public press conference isn't a public way of thanking them?

IMO, this is very unlikely to be a suicide, especially given the culvert. And while I know it would be awful to contemplate the idea that a loved one felt suicidal and I hadn't noticed, for me it would be even worse to think my loved one had faced a killer. Everything about this is so sad and horrible. Hoping for answers soon.

The CS bulletin is carefully worded. It says tips about what may have happened. And it does say homicide because until the ME declares it isn't, it is investigated that way.

The reward would only be paid if the tip leads to an arrest and indictment. So if it ends up there is no crime, there is no reward.

That is misleading. It isn't the maximum amount in total. Crimestoppers routinely puts up $1000 and friends and family members can add an additional amount. For instance, if you go on the website now you can see an example of this. In Cheryl's case no family or friends have added an additional amount for information like they did in this case for instance:

If suicide was committed on a slope, after death the body could roll or wash downhill ending up in a creek where it could be carried to a culvert by the current.

I can't get the link to copy but search Q13 Fox News on Facebook. They've posted an article saying it will be several more weeks until the tox results are in. In comments, residents are complaining their reports to LE about safety issues in the neighborhood are being ignored.
