Search launched for missing Chinese businessman near Deception Falls

Rescue teams are searching for a Chinese businessman who disappeared while hiking in the area around Deception Falls in the Cascade Mountains.

Sgt. Ryan Abbott of the King County Sheriff's Office says the missing man was with a group of Chinese tourists who drove up to Deception Falls in two cars on Tuesday, then went hiking and sightseeing in the area.

After they were done and were getting ready to leave, they realized the man was missing. They went looking and found his coat and hat - but there was no sign of him.

Search-and-rescue teams were called in, but they had to call off the search Tuesday night due to darkness. The search was resumed Wednesday at daylight.

Temperatures in that area (www.weather.com) were reported as down in the 30's with precipitation and 25 mile per hour wind last night. Without a coat he would not have survived that unless he found some sort of shelter.

Missing Chinese businessman found dead near Deception Falls

A Chinese tourist who disappeared while hiking in the area around Deception Falls in the Cascade Mountains has been found dead by a search party.

Searchers say it appears the man lost his footing and went into the water at or near the falls. An elaborate rope-and-pulley system was set up to enable searchers to retrieve his body
