LOL I think it has to be a job of respect with not enough pay to buy gas to get to it!

How about President of the congregation in his church! Like BTK

Good call Scandi.

I forgot about that dirtbag BTK and how he fooled everyone into thinking he was the "pillar" of his community. What a scum, being President of his Church, and being a killer, and using the computer at church to send notes.

It is very comparable. I think these Sociopath's get a kick out of fooling everyone in their lives. It is as if, "if you only knew who I was". That type of "superior" mentality. We are all "commoner", and they are elite minds.

Acutually, one of the few things I don't know about this guy is whether or not he goes to church. I don't think so. But, I don't know.

But, it is basically the same type of thing. It puts you in the public eye as a respected citizen, and here you are a criminal.

Even if he isn't Cooper (about a 1% chance he isn't in my book, and other's who are aware of the evidence), he had no business holding the position he had given his criminal record.

It is amazing how groups, organizations, churches, don't do background checks on people. Just because someone goes to church, or lives in the community a long time, etc, doesn't mean they are a decent person.

Oh, and when somone has a long gap in their resume, ask why. In this case, it was telling.

Not that we needed it, but, it is further proof of Mr. Cooper's guilt. Even Cooper knew that he climb from a 'blue collar" job, to upper middle class, was well, "almost overnight".

Thanks curves:

Yes, it is very exciting

I have been receiving serious media inquiries related to this story. So, I have a feeling that it "may" have attention outside of our local market.

Plus, whenever a local affiliate produces a story, it goes on the wires for all affiliates, so, it is possible it will be picked up outside of Portland. Seems like a stretch to get to the UK, but, then again, we do have the internet.

Did you even know about this story before this thread?

I didn"t even know about Cooper until I moved to Oregon in the 90"s. I had vaguely heard of the name, but, really had zero knowledge of the event, etc.

I remember that night, as I believe I was moving from Olympia down to San Diego and stopped in Lake Oswego to stay with my P's for a few days. We were bowled over, to say the least, and of course figured he had been spiked by a tree on the way down.

Then over the years as I lived in Vancouver and explored the Gifford Pinchot National forrest, all the logging roads up north to Mt St Helens, and fished for catfish in Vancouver Lake, the hijacking became more personal. I don't know which was a higher interest, thinking of Sasquatch up by Mt Adams of DB and where he could be. I remember even visiting Lalooska, a famous Indian woodcarver in Ariel Wn and asking him about Cooper. LOL He just smiled and went back to work!

So if you are a Norweseter it is ingrained in the fabric of your soal, like a seed that wants to germinate but can't. But you never forget about him. One thing I didn't know about him till reading here is that he had quite a witty sense of dry humor, knew exactly what he wanted and could accomplish. Too bad he was a criminal! Even Hunter S Thompson had some good things about him, dastardly as he was. LOL Scandi

Left, aren't you worried he might read on the internet and thus know that his gig will be up on May 15? Might he try to skip town?

  • #270
I've wondered that too Heart, and also if there will be someone staked out on either end of town should he decide to bolt!

There are 3 'spots', evidently the 15th thru the 17th. Knowing how news shows do these things, I don't think it will be until the last show that they lay the bomb. The other 2 shows will give background interviews and give hints about him, but that is it. The newscaster doing the show is very low key but right on spot, so he will be perfect for the job he has to do.

I wonder if the spots have all been filmed and are being edited at this point?

What has this man done to earn a living since the highjacking, does anyone know? $200,00 less the $5000 found at the river is not enough money to live on forever. Even invested well, that amount of principal would not produce enough annual income to live very well.

Oh, and not to be picky about spelling, but the image created when discussing "statues running out" just cracked me up, guys! The correct word is "statute".

I think his main profession was 'bank robber', and he was very cagy about it. Unless he married this gal and she was loaded! Scandi

Good point.

That is a concern.

But, maybe he will think he can outsmart us the way he outsmarted LE in 1971.

Plus, if he runs, won't that point more toward guilt?

I know how he made it from 1971 till now, it will be in the segment.

It wasn't from working.

You are right, the money only lasted a few years. HE was caught committing other crimes throughout his life.

In today's money that 200,000 is close to 800,000 to 1,000,000.

BTW: The actual amount of money found was $ 5,880.00.

the problem is that dirty money is hard to wash. You can't take a chance and put it in the bank, or buy real estate, etc. so, it just doesnt' go as far. Not to mention we all need so much money to live on each month. You really don't think he worked. He was a hero, heroes dont' work.

Don't forget, how many times does a criminal commit a crime, versus the number of times he/she gets caught? 10 to 1?

99 % chance we catch Cooper, and now I get hung for not spelling correctly. Shouldn't we get a parade or a pat on the back instead?

NO, he was single throughout the 70's, and when he did marry, I don't think she had money. But, I can't say for certainty.

I don't think he has the face to marry wealthy. Not a knock, but, he isn't Brad Pitt.

Let's see, he commits armed robbery, get nailed, steals 200,000, gets away. To me, it is a pattern of stealing.

His future convictions back this up.

After getting away with this, do we really think when the money runs low, he is going down to the plant and applying for his old job back?

:D Crackin' me up there!

I was going to say it seems criminals get into a rut. They either consistently rob banks, murder people, prey on lonely women and rape them etc. Whatever they enjoy that excites them and they evidently get away with more than they get caught!

When the funds got low I am sure that is exactly what this guy did - sll over again, one more time. So hopefully there are future convictions awaiting him

I have a feeling though as bad as what he does is, the crime he committed in 1971 will stand far above all the others he has on the books yet to deal with. I know you agree on that Left~ Scandi

It's all been shot.

I sure am glad to hear this, even if he isn't computer smart, someone may have tried to steal your thunder and warn him.

Good Job left,

Thanks Lorann: appreciate it.

It is possible that someone could warn him. However, we want the story out. So, it is a game of risk/reward.

You are right, a lot of people applauded him for eluding LE. Had that been their 200 g's, or their daughter on the flight, somehow, I think they would have a different opinion about Cooper.

Also, we went out and interviewed him twice about this story after it aired on KOIN in November, and he seemed oblivious about the story.

But, the heat is going to get in a few weeks will be much hotter.

I think Robert Stack died in 2003, but, it would be nice for Unsolved Mysteries to update the show.

Heck, Unsolved Mysteries should have had Eliot Ness, aka, Robert Stack work this case. Heck, he took down Nitty, Capone, etc. why not Cooper?

You are right. If anyone wants to interview Cooper, I would do it before the case hits the wire. Somehow, I think he will not be commenting thereafter.

Thanks for the continued support.
