Thanks Lorann

you guys here have been so supportive

Last nights show really bugged me. H-bach will never admit he made a mistake by not investigating Mayfield. And on top of it, he is stretching the truth to make our guy look innocent so that he isn't embarassed.

And to see him on the news, as if we are the idiots. No, we didnt' let a convicted felon "ASSIST" us on a case where he is the "best suspect" out there.

It was very upsetting to hear that Mayfield accused us of lying, and asking him to lie and say he was "cooper' to sell books.

I thought H-bach would admit he made a mistake, but, I am ashamed he will not be man enough to admit he should have investigated Mayfield. Guess I was wrong about mankind.

I've been fascinated by this thread. I was wondering if the interviews on KOIN and the Inside Edition stories can be put on youtube? I know a lot of times I want to see something from a news channel only to find it no longer available. Koin may not leave it up for viewing for very long. I have forwarded the link for this thread to a few people (pilots) who will be interested in it. My old boss flies airplanes and helicopters says he is very interested to look at it but does not have the time right now. Another thing I was wondering about is if this is the guy he would not admit it for fear of prison so do you think it's possible he may have a journal about it and have it in a safe place so his "loved ones" would find it after his death and write a book to make a lot of $$$? That would be a huge slap in the face to the FBI, profiting twice for the same crime.

We are trying to put it on youtube, etc. Work in progress, you are right, it will only stay up for about a week.

Yes, him leaving a tape for his wife or daughter, and slapping the FBI and FAA in the face is very possible.

good point

It stands for Airplane Single Engine Land - it's a Private Pilot's certificate, usually the first rating you get. By itself you cannot fly commercially (i.e. be paid in any manner), which includes parachute operations. Getting a commercial pilot's certificate allows you to fly people for pay, but you ALSO have to work for an approved firm that has it's OWN certificate from the FAA to hire you to do so.

The FAA won't give you the birthdate. You can go to the site linked above & try any combination you want - but that other fellow with the valid Airman's certificate issued in 1976 does not come up if you restrict your search to addresses in Oregon. Other than that I have no idea how common that name is. I can tell you that I'm the only one in the FAA database with my first and last name in the whole country!

I have rented planes more times than I can count. I have been asked to prove I carry insurance, but nobody has ever asked to see my certificate before they would give me the keys. I've always found this odd - and it may not be universal.

thanks for explaining. I think it is possible to have two people with the same name. But, I seriously doubt there are two Ted E. Mayield, who are pilots in Oregon or the US for that matter.

I know he was very easy to search, given his past.

However, I wouldn't rule out anything

No, I expected it from Teddy

but, I thought a retired FBI agent would want this case solved.

HE does, but as long as it makes him look good. IF it were Mayfield, he would be the laughing stock of his Rotary club.

BTW" I have an internet friend who has followed this story for about a year. He is "convinced" that something fishy is going on with H-bach. I tend to disagree, but, he can't believe someone could have tunnel vision. I will bet this is the only hijacking where a suspect actually knew the agent who would investigate the case before the hijacking.

Another point. Why didn't Teddy just pass along his information to another FBI agent that night? Why did he "insist" on talking to H-bach, and why at 10pm?

not if they have the conversations on tape- cowboy !

Plus, we have taped everything.

We have a clean record, he doesn't.

PLus, he is the same guy who admits on tape, countless times, that he

Never called the FBi that night and

He doesn't know H-bach, never heard of him

Talk about lying out of your teeth

FYI - this is what the certification looks like for someone approved to work on aircraft (as you describe him doing). This is from the record of the guy that approved me for my first certificate:

---

Certificates
4 of 4

1 2 3 4

DOI: 9/2/2005
Certificate: MECHANIC
Rating(s):
MECHANIC
AIRFRAME
POWERPLANT
INSPECTION AUTHORIZATION
DISTRICT OFFICE: WP15 03/2007

ya, would be interesting to see if he is certified to work on planes. Looks like he isn't.

I;'m confused. What is the conclusion related to his private pilots license?

Is that him issued in 1976? or don't we know? or are the databases too old.?

Is it possible that he never even had a pilots license, and was caught flying without, hence, he lost that privledge forever,

Or maybe he was not allowed to fly for medical reasons, and flew planes anyway, until he was caught

Would a conviction for armed robbery preclude somebody from getting a pilot's license?

Left, I watched all 3 tapes, and I'm thinking that 36 years can certainly change one's appearance, and memories fade, BUT you mentioned that you interviewed the witnesses - the flight attendants, right? Well, a few things don't change much over the years - voice and mannerisms. So I'm wondering if your witnesses might recognize him if they see the tapes, especially the last one, where he is speaking more.

I agree. I don't know if the flight attendants watched the video's or not. We went to see them a few years ago, and let's say that they are not one's who want the public eye.

They are both scared to death, till this day. Maybe they will see inside edition and notice mannerisms, etc.

I do like your idea. You have to remember, both girls got tired of the press, FBI, etc. They kind of hid for years. I hope they can notice something.

Plus, you never know, someone from 1971 could call in again with that "tip" that was ignored by the FBI back in 1971, but now will be taken seriously.

good thought

this case just fascinates me. One FBI agent insists Cooper was exactly 47 years old. Another FBi agent wrote a book and he claims Cooper was McCoy, who was only 29. Now, they both work for the same fBI. How can that be? One of them, or both is clearly wrong. The agent who wrote the book about mcCoy, was actually the agent in charge of the Salt Lake City office. Btw, mcCoy was only 29, 5;9, had blue eyes, and didn't have dark skin.

One thing I have noticed about H-bach, when he makes up his mind, it is made up. He will not think about any other scenario, possibility, etc.

With this being quiet, I am wondering if stuff is going on? I tried a couple of newspapers to see if the case was even mentioned - but not sure what paper would be most likely to report on it.

Had my VCR all set last night to tape ET, so will do the same tonight.

Hope things are moving along on a positive note.

I hope so too Lorann. #1, if he is Cooper which I think he is, for him to consistently slip thru the cracks of justice is an outrage. He needs to have the arm of the law knock that cockiness right out of him. #2, it was not a victimless crime. Those traumatized deserve for this clever criminal to be charged and tried. And every taxpayer should be enraged at how this investigation was steered from the beginning. I really hope something is now being done behind the scenes!

There are so many of these shows it can be confusing.

I hope you meant that you set it to tape IE (Inside Edition) instead of ET (Entertainment Tonight).

If not, you'll be dissappointed!

Few more hours and IE will be one here.

I sure would have been disapointed - and still am. We don't get IE here. I hope someone does a recap.

On cases like this, you never know what is going to happen.

Newspapers, etc, usually report when people are arrested, or the police calls them suspects, not just when someone says the FBI passed on a good suspect.

Plus, with H-bach covering himself, it didn't help the case.

What we need, is for IE to air the footage, or for the FBI to finally investigage him.

Don't worry, the authorities know his name, and don't forget, you have to prove someone is guilty. Many crimes are solve, but difficult to prove in court.

it's not over, but KOIN covering their butts didn't help. but, it was expected. You can't accuse someone of a crime on tv. But, you can say they were passed over, and the facts surrounding their life, which is what they did.

I'm sure the anchors would have said what they did regardless, for liability reasons. Everyone is worried about lawsuits, and making money. That is what it is all about.

hey, no worries! I didn't find it at first either. Although my Dh did eventually find it on a TIVO schedule, I'm not 100% positive that we have the channel that is showing it. I haven't ever checked to be sure, and I know that several channels show up on the guide that we don't have access to.

Jodi

My media friend may post the inside edition on the web for everyone to view tomorrow.

So... there may be other ways for us to view it!

so, correct me if I'm wrong, as I've only scanned the last couple of pages - but there SHOULD be 'something' on D.B. Cooper on Inside Edition TODAY??? On the Pacific coast it starts at 4pm here... In the Sacramento area, I should say. I hope you are right, as I'm going to be leaving work early to catch this show!!

and Leftcoast - I will 'watch' my mail for those tapes on the show. My Huz is also getting 'into' this case... and VERY interested on what the show was about up there! Thanks again!! :)
