The Family Search website has some information on Mr. Studeman. According to the 1940 Census, he lived in West St. Paul, MN. He had a brother four years his elder named Roger. Mr. Studeman was divorced from Nathalie Heise in 1971. In 1978, he married Barbara Mattson Kelly. In 2008, he was living in Orting, WA. His date of birth was November 22, 1932.

Valerie L. Obata of Gilroy, CA would be the niece of Dean Studeman. She is the daughter of Dean's brother, Roger.

Dean was my father's cousin, and he had lots of relatives nearby, including my sister in Orting, as well as his cousin, my aunt Karen, also living nearby. I'm David W Studeman, son of the late Merle D Studeman and my late mother Patricia Studeman. While growing up, he was by our house in Renton, WA, fairly often, and I remember going to his house once and seeing him on a camping trip as well. I last saw him at the Studeman family reunion in Chehalis at Jerry and Louella Studeman's house. This is grossly late, but in the phone directories in the greater Seattle area, there are a lot of Studemans. Definitely nobody tried to call me, and I make myself easy to find.

When we found out, we were livid about how it was handled. My late mother, Patty, and my Aunt Karen (his cousin) went to visit him in the old Soldiers' home fairly often and would have been on the guest records. My sister tried to call the home to find out how it managed to be mishandled, but of course, they never got back to her. We only feel better that he was buried with military honors, so at least he got some dignity, which civilians in Pierce County don't get; their ashes are tossed at sea.
