This is local to me, and I am TERRIFIED having a murderer running loose on the streets! Douglas' alleged killer Todd Andersen is considered armed and dangerous and is at large. Previously incorrectly reported he had been apprehended, which was false.

The Ferndale Police Department has identified and is searching for a man suspected of shooting and killing a Ferndale business owner Thursday afternoon.

Ferndale police are searching for 49-year-old Todd D. Andersen on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to a news release from the city of Ferndale.

Andersen is believed to be driving a rented silver 2020 Dodge Charger with Oregon license plates 553MJM, according to the release, but no description of Andersen was included. Nexis records show Andersen lives in Bellingham.

Andersen is suspected of shooting and killing 58-year-old Douglas Scoggins of Ferndale, the release states.

Todd Andersen was found dead in California today.

Authorities learned Andersen sent an email to a family member on Friday, saying he was in the Clear Creek area of Lassen County, California. Police reached out to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, who found Andersen’s location on Saturday around 5:20 p.m.

Deputies made contact with Andersen, who took his own life by shooting himself.
