*Motions Hearing (@ am PT) – WA – Hazel Journey Holman (3) (Nov. 27, 2019, Bellingham) - *Kamee Nicole Dixon (27/now 29) (Father’s GF) arrested (12/5/19), charged (12/6/19), indicted (12/9/19) & arraigned (12/13/19) with homicide by abuse (domestic violence) & 2nd degree murder (domestic violence). Plead not guilty. $1M bond.
Trial began on 6/6/22 & ended 6/22/22; jury started deliberations on 6/22/22 & ended 6/30/22 with guilty verdict on homicide by abuse.

6/30/22 Thursday, Trial Day 18/Jury Deliberations Day 7: Dixon has been found guilty of homicide by abuse for the 2019 death of Hazel Homan. The jury did not come to a verdict on the murder charge, & Whatcom prosecutor Eric J. Richey said he thinks the second charge will likely be dismissed. Dixon’s sentencing will take place on 7/14/22.
7/14/22 Update: Attorneys for Dixon have requested a new trial. Court documents state that Dixon’s defense attorneys submitted the request on 7/6/22. Her attorneys claim that the jurors did not fully understand the definition of torture, which jeopardized Dixon’s right to a fair trial. A hearing date has been set for 7/18/22. Dixon is scheduled to be sentenced on 8/2/22.

7/18/22 Update: Whatcom County Superior Court Judge David Freeman found in the July 18 hearing on the motion for a new trial that the jury was properly instructed & that there was not a need to further define torture, because it was not a technical term that required a definition. Freeman said during court that had the court further instructed the jury on the definition of torture using the defense's requested definition, it likely would have been more confusing for the jurors. Judge Freeman then denied Dixon's motion for a new trial. Next sentencing on 8/2/22.

Kamee had no reaction except for when Hazel's Aunt spoke to the court, she grabbed a tissue.

She received 34 years in prison, far exceeding normal sentencing in a case like this. I'm currently researching this case for a video I'm doing on the case. Does anyone know why she was removed from her mothers care? I haven't found anything on it. Maybe they say in the court videos, I'll have to watch them if I can handle it.
