You are welcome. I wonder if we will learn what his motive was? Maybe he was her husband's nursing assistant and Jane got upset with him for some reason?

Good job Federal Way Police!

What a relief! I had a gut feeling about this one, having had some unpleasant experiences when filing complaints at a nursing home!

Interesting tidbits:

Federal Way Police Cmdr. Dan McCall said Friday that the suspect had provided care to the victim's husband. "The victim did know him," McCall said.

Police have said very little about a possible motive for the killing. McCall said Friday that no sexual assault had taken place and that robbery does not appear to be a motive. However, some minor items of the victim's clothing remain missing, he said.

$1 million bail set for nursing aide arrested in woman's murder

By KOMO Staff

FEDERAL WAY - A nursing assistant arrested on suspicion of murdering a Federal Way grandmother and stuffing her body into her car trunk was ordered held on $1 million bail Saturday in King County Superior Court.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Joseph Njonge of Kent, has been booked into King County Jail on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Jane Carol Britt, 75, police said. She was found strangled to death on March 19.

Njonge, a certified nursing assistant, worked at the Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Residential Care Facility at 491 S. 338th in Federal Way. It was the same facility where Britt's husband was a resident and where her car was found.

Britt frequently visited her husband, Frank, at the Garden Terrace facility. She had visited him the day before her body was found in the trunk of her vehicle, a 2002 gold Mercedes Benz, which was parked outside the facility.

Federal Way Police Cmdr. Dan McCall said Friday that the suspect had provided care to the victim's husband, who has Parkinson's disease. "The victim did know him," McCall said.

Federal Way police: Suspect's DNA found under fingernails of slain woman, 75

Bail was set at $1 million Saturday for a 24-year-old nursing assistant who is being held on suspicion of strangling a 75-year-old woman after she left a Federal Way nursing home last month.

Joseph Njonge, of Kent, who has no criminal history, worked for nearly a year as a certified nursing assistant at Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Center of Excellence, where Jane Britt's body was found in the trunk of her car March 19. She was last seen alive the evening before, when she left the nursing home after visiting her 77-year-old husband, who lives there.

Njonge was arrested Thursday after the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory said that it had matched his DNA to that found under Britt's fingernails, according to court documents released Saturday.

Also, another little snip from the article:

Police also said they found Britt's husband's Costco card in Njonge's wallet.

When Britt's body was found in her car trunk, she was fully clothed but her shoes were missing and her pockets were turned inside out, court documents said.

According to police, Britt's family said she usually did not carry a purse but kept money and identification in her pockets.

Murder charge filed in killing at Federal Way nursing home

A 75-year-old woman who was strangled to death in the parking lot of her husband's Federal Way nursing home three weeks ago fought furiously against her attacker, according to documents outlining first degree murder charges filed this morning against nursing assistant Joseph Njonge, 24.

Jane Britt scratched her assailant so hard that forensic investigators were able to cull a complete DNA profile from the skin cells found under her fingernails, which they then matched to Njonge, an employee of Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Center of Excellence, where he helped care for Frank Britt, said King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg in an announcement this morning.

Also from article:

"She fought over a long period of time," said Satterberg, who added that Britt had defensive wounds on her hands.
Family members found a wheelchair that Britt kept in the car for her husband, along with a garage door opener she usually kept in her pocket, in the woods near the nursing home, according to documents.

Thank you for the updates, RKnowley. I just knew she didn't go without a fight. How horrible though. Why didn't anyone see or hear this struggle? :(

yw, I wondered the same thing. Why didn't anyone see or hear it? I wonder if her car was at the back of the lot or something. So sad to hear she fought long and hard and was aware of what was going on. If she hadn't though they wouldn't have got the DNA they needed to convict him.

Most of these facilities have noise ongoing from air conditioning/heating, patients with special needs who have equipment, the clamor of the nurses station, concrete walls, extra insulation, etc. You ever notice on regular hospital floors you don't hear much outside the patient's room? But, if you are in an ICU situation you can hear everything. No wall but glass enclosures that are open and the nurses station is center to all rooms.

This is what I think happened, Normal activity inside the facility. This does show that all facilities should have security guards patroling as parking lots after dark are especially dangerous but then who would think their own employee would do this?

I would like to know why he did this.

SEATTLE -- In an exclusive jailhouse interview, murder suspect Joseph Njonge says he didn’t kill 75-year-old Jane Britt.

KIRO 7 reporter Deborah Horne said Njonge had tears in his eyes as he denied murdering Jane Britt and putting her body in the trunk of her car.

Joseph Njonge, 26, is being held at the King County Jail on $1 million bail.

Njonge told Horne he doesn't belong in jail because he didn't do it.

Jane Britt was the wife of a patient at the Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Federal Way where Njonge was an employee.

Prosecutors said they have indisputable evidence that he did commit the slaying when his DNA was found under the fingernails of Britt.
