Parabon Nanolabs/GEDMatch (DNA match from a coffee cup to that of semen collected from Loomis’ boots).
Jury trial was set for 6/7, now in October 11, 2019.
4/12/19 Update: Initial Arraignment on 4/11/19 continued to 4/15.
4/15/19 Update: Plead not guilty. Next Omnibus (pretrial) hearing on 5/9, jury trial set for 6/7.
5/31/10 Update: Trial has been continued to October 11, 2019. Judge reduces bond to $750K. Status hearing on 7/17.

"EVERETT — A Snohomish County judge raised bail to $1 million Wednesday for the suspect charged with murdering Jody Loomis in 1972. He’d been accused of planning to violate his release conditions by taking his wife bowling.

Terrence Miller, 77, posted $750,000 last month and has been under house arrest in Edmonds since then.

Miller was handcuffed, processed by the jail and released from custody again on Wednesday, after posting the $1 million bond. Miller is represented by a public defender. He’s awaiting trial in a killing that went unsolved for decades."

Hmmm. Yet it says he has a public defender? I don’t know much about how bail works but I guess they can’t make him sell his house to hire an attorney and it’s now tied up in the bail?

Usually from what I remember bail/bond is usually 10% of the amount. So he spent $75K on his $750K bond, then paid another $100K for his $1M bond.... Now that is a lot of $$! :O

“I don’t think that this is right. The family, we’re devastated. There’s a lot of risk by letting someone bailout in a murder case,” said Jody’s sister, Jana.

We wanted to speak with Terrence Miller about his charges and the large sum of money he’s paid to stay out of a cell, at least for now. Miller declined to speak on camera but confirmed he paid the full $100,000 bond.

Miller is scheduled to go to trial on June 5.

For detectives and Loomis’ loved ones, an arrest for her murder was a monumental moment. They said it felt like a time when justice finally seemed possible, but a couple months after Miller was arrested, those close to the case got some startling news.


“How could this be? How could this happen? Do you hear of this?” Smith said. “I mean we’ve never heard of this happening before. That he could be out - go home to his house, go home to his wife.”

“It was pretty hard to believe that somebody could bail out on $1-million bail, and it’s the only case that I can think of in my 42 years in law enforcement where somebody bailed out on a first-degree murder charge,” Scharf said.

“I mean murder - murder, and he’s at home, and we have the DNA,” Smith said.

When charged with first-degree murder, prosecutors asked the judge to set bail at $1 million: A standard number for murder cases. What’s not standard is a defendant being able to come up with the funds to make bond.
