Man with autism survived with help from the homeless community, hoping something similar is happening for JH.
Dec. 11, 2025
“He was moving through various parts of the Salt Lake Valley, and that he managed to survive in extremely cold conditions,” Lori Beckwith wrote on her Facebook post. “What we do know is that he received small acts of kindness along the way that helped keep him alive.”

Throughout the search, Lori Beckwith wrote, people experiencing homelessness consistently tried to help, sharing sightings and showing “a level of compassion that was deeply moving.”

I've been thinking about Jonathan a lot lately with Christmas approaching.

There was a News Nation article that was posted in May, and one quote from the article has stayed with me.

"For now, his family waits, knowing the young man who still waits eagerly for Santa Claus each year would never leave the safety of his home on his own."

Article dated May 25, 2025

Wherever he is now (and hopefully he is still alive) does he know that Christmas is near, and is he hoping that Santa Claus will find him? 😢

The family of 21-year-old Jonathan Hoang renewed calls for information nearly nine months after he disappeared from his Arlington home in Snohomish County. Hoang, who has a developmental disability, was last seen on surveillance video in Kirkland, and a $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his location.

I think he is missing again

I really thought Jonathan would be found quite quickly, the community seemed to be really trying hard to find him.

I cry or get choked up almost every time I think about this guy

I think the investigation was poorly done and the whole situation all around is confusing and sad and I’m just hoping he isn’t scared wherever he is or whatever happened

I just heard about this case last night. It kept me up all night long. To me, it is INSANE how unwilling LE is being to make any effort to find Jonathan, especially with more recent sightings in July. Did they ever bring dogs to the area he showed up on the ring footage? Did they ever get Apple to cooperate with releasing Jonathan’s iPad activity on the night he went missing? Why are they so blasé about all of this? This is so incredibly frustrating and upsetting. Are LE in Arlington/WA in general usually this unhelpful? They have dropped the ball HARD, and I feel that since they didn’t do anything when it first started, crucial information that could have held answers to Jonathan’s whereabouts has been wiped from his iPad that may be gone forever.
I definitely feel like he’s being held somewhere and being taken care of to some degree, although in that July camera footage, he looks like he lost weight. That footage of him trying to use the porta potty is so sad. I really, really hope he is found soon and brought home to his family. They have been SO proactive and amazing about finding him and bringing him home. The locals have been really wonderful at picking up the slack that LE has made. I really hope they find him soon.

Just found this thread and greatly appreciate the discussion and critical thinking about what has happened to this young man. I am close to the family and happy to answer any questions. We need more help to find him. The jurisdiction for this case is still locked at Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (the family has been slowly and steadily trying to change this, even with the help of professional orgs it is not going well). This means that whenever we get a lead/tip and call it in to 911, it is taken to SCSO given their jurisdiction. The system doesn't work and we are 9 months in without any real clues. :(

Would you be open to getting submitting for a verified insider so we can discuss more freely?

Sure, what does that entail?
Thank you! Essentially it allows them to confirm you’re close to the case and speak more freely. I’m linking the process below. Once you do that, I’d comment here and say you submitted your info and report the comment to flag it. Might help move it along.

There are some very skilled folks on this board who can often get creative or think outside of the box and can sometimes be helpful without the theatrics that other avenues lead to.

I speak on behalf of the board - we are invested in Johnathan ❤️ I think about him often

Was July the most recent sighting of Johnathan?

Appreciate all of your insight. It’s possible but confusing. He was seen in July in Kirkland on NE 114th Lane and address in Arlington is on 114th Dr NE. So it seems he was trying to get home months later.
Was he in the same clothes on both dates ,sorry if this has been asked

It’s been since clarified that his last confirmed sighting was June 23 in Kirkland - he was not wearing what was reported but it sounds like they are confident this was him. This answers a lot of questions and the family now believes he left by vehicle

“On Saturday, April 5th, 150 SAR volunteers searched for Jonathan in an arm-to-arm search in the area surrounding his last known location. Searchers were directed to not go around any obstacle: only over, under, or straight through. The SAR Deputy believed Jonathan’s remains would likely be recovered on this day, but after the extensive search yielded no indication Jonathan ever left the backyard or pavement, now believes Jonathan was taken in a vehicle on the night of March 30th.”

To answer some of your questions. Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) has jurisdiction and has to date not taken this case seriously and still does not consider there to be any "evidence of a foul play." Quite literally, they have not even interviewed the family or their neighbors in any formal way. Arlington PD originally was engaged and seemed to be interested in investigating, but then jurisdiction was taken over by SCSO after the search and rescue effort. Access to the ipad ping location is still being looked into (and yes, likely data has been lost given it wasn't acted on immediately).

No dogs to the ring footage area that is in Kirkland, WA [that sighting was from 6/23/25 by the way and was discovered on 6/28 I believe when a family returned from vacation and contacted the Hoangs.]. Kirkland offered dogs, drones, etc. as soon as the family identified that it was Jonathan in the footage and SCSO told Kirkland to stand down and to all of our surprise, they did. So then we, as citizens canvassed the Kirkland area ourselves and found more ring footage, but no other leads.
