Is his attorney assigned or did he arrange for one?

On the docs today it states Laura S Carnell is the attorney for Defendant and Brian Best is the prosecuting attorney.

What does “bail issue reserved” mean?

what about his family members though? Sometimes family members of even the most horrible criminals surprise you and pony up the money. I am pretty worried about no electronic monitoring. I guess any bondsman might require it anyway.

He does have a brother he split their father's estate with when he died in 2014. Kassanndra's twin brother mentioned he did have some concerns with CD posting bail as it sounds like they are close.

I thought there is no bail for murder?
This documents does mention vasectomy, I wonder if he actually had one? They do sometimes fail.

Well, at least now I would not do anything to make LE angry, so I’d cooperate with them, in her shoes...

Is there any indication she hasn’t?

TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma man accused of killing his pregnant former girlfriend before discarding her body on a wooded cliff by Chambers Bay on Friday pleaded not guilty to the crime.

During an arraignment hearing in Pierce County Superior Court, Colin Patrick Dudley, 37, was formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the slaying of Kassandra Cantrell, 33, of Parkland.

The presiding judge ordered Dudley held on a $2 million bond. According to court documents, if Dudley is able to make bail, the judge said his travel was restricted to Pierce, King, Kitsap and Thurston counties. And he was ordered to not have any contact with the victim's family or possess any weapons or guns.

Not guilty? What a joke.

This documents does mention vasectomy, I wonder if he actually had one? They do sometimes fail.

I also wonder when he had it (if he had one). It's most likely to fail early on, before the man has had a sperm count done. It's very rare, but possible, years down the track.

It wasn't well planned out. Planned? Yes. Well? No. Ive been in the public parking garage that was near where her body was found. There were camera domes/bobbles clear as day to see! Thats like shoplifting at walmart and hoping that the domes on the ceiling are fake or pointing the wrong way. He went to a place with a membership, that tracks purchases, to build an alibi and bought items used to cover the crime!

Im seeing from another source the body was kept in the house overnight then dumped the next day. It was found with a stab wound (could be more) and the medical examiner stated there were multiple factures on the victims skull. What a monster.

This is so horrifying. Can you imagine his anger at her. I think this is why it was so poorly planned. He was livid.

Not guilty?? How in the world is he going to explain this away? His version of the Colin Horror Show...

  • #351
It honestly blows my mind that he thinks he can try and fight this one, explain it away, etc

He has a lawyer yeah? What lawyer would tell their client to plead not guilty with this much crystal clear evidence against them?

eta Is there any kind of provocation defense in WA?

There was someone a couple of days ago asking about the vasectomy, it's in the court docs. So now we can discuss this. If he didn't have one why didn't his live in get pregnant? Maybe they really don't have that kind of relationship and that is why he cheats...just an opinion.

His current partner is older and might not be very fertile herself.

I think he just got assigned public defender and any defender would say plead not guilty for now while she looks at the case. Down the line I think she’ll urge a deal, but this case is so strong not much likely to be on offer. Still, I think a lawyer would advise no plea without some kind of deal.

eta good question re provocation

To be clear, the probable cause declaration provides the vasectomy comment came from KC at her medical appointment after she identified CD as the baby daddy.

KC responded to the contraception question that the "partner had a vasectomy, so was not planning on getting pregnant...." (pg 2, line 13).

I think investigators were asking the same question about alleged paternity after KC made the Vst comment.

I imagine CD's defense will try to use this statement to try and denounce he had a motive to kill KC.

It appears from preliminary reports that KC's body was very decomposed when recovered and they could not determine if she was pregnant when murdered. CD will probably claim that KC had lost the baby and was no longer pregnant -- he had no motive to kill her, and no proof he was the baby father.

So awful for her grieving family. :(:(

Agree so awful. I was surprised by that. But a huge point for prosecution revealed in today’s documents is that KC identified the father by name AND discussed that the father was aware of the pregnancy with her doctor!! Not just friends and family!
Also I hope they can find proof with further testing. I think that blood hormone levels can indicate pregnancy and other markers may remain. Either way she had test at doctor plus two OB appointments and named and discussed the father with OB. So yay for KC and her Doc.

Regardless of the pregnancy, he’s the last one to communicate with her and to be with her according to their phone records along with him being in the location her murdered body was found. Her blood was found in his basement and his truck

He’s got nothing!

KC’s twin viewed CD as pretty well off due to inheritance. Now I believe CD cannot afford a full defense for a case like this but. Does inheritance not count? Only income? Any buzz on what it takes to qualify or not qualify for public defender in WA? https://www.co.pierce.wa.us/754/How-to-Obtain-a-Public-Defender
F
WIW -I knew multiple defendants in the south with non managerial retail type jobs who could not qualify for public defenders. Less serious charges but both were single moms of 3 on the verge of bankruptcy but income was judged too high.

Right! And then there is the fact that he hid his affair from his "wife" and told investigators she was his number one priority and he would never do anything to jeopardize their relationship.

He wasn't about to let anything get between him and his girlfriend. Well, except prison, I guess.

Thank you I’ve added this to her media thread
WA - Kassanndra Cantrell, 33, Parkland, 25 Aug 2020 *MEDIA,MAPS,TIMELINE* NO DISCUSSION

I’m so glad he is clueless when it comes to all the technical data that will convict him and glad there will be a trial so we can see everything he did to destroy her and her babies
