I will go back and read the quote because IIRC she was talking at the time about the fights and Lindsey defending herself against her brother. I thought she mentioned it is why she grew them long, but I could be mistaken.

Here are all the posts in the Lindsey forum with the word "fingernails" in them. The only quote I can find is

Yesterday Lindsey’s mother said if a stranger kidnapped Lindsey Baum, the girl would have put up a fight.
“She has very long fingernails,” said Melissa Baum. “Her brother is proof enough of that.”

http://www.king5.com/topstories/stories/NW_070309WAB-mccleary-KS.5459255...

There is also some discussion in the forum about pictures of Lindsey showing her with short fingernails.

ETA-- Forgot to add the link to the fingernail posts! http://www.websleuths.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2285242

I'm curious where DD (from SM) is getting the info from the locals in McCleary. Who is DDs contact?
The locals I talk to must not be in the "McCleary loop" because they know far less than DD does.
How does someone from the internet go about finding the "local rumor mill of McCleary" when many of the residents in McCleary don't even know who the "local rumor mill" is. Don't you think if people were supposedly hiding things and not wanting to talk to the police that they'd avoid random strangers from the internet? God knows I would.. you can't guarantee who you are talking to.
How does DDs contacts know they aren't talking to the LE?

I would also REALLY like to know her contact(s). You bring up some questions that I have had for weeks. Thank you for this post. Just a voice of support on that matter.

Ooh, ooh! That's a perfect description of me...a drug addict hiding from the cops! :takeabow:

Addendum: I forgot the part about me not caring about anything but myself...

:crazy::crazy::crazy:

There seem to be as many "addicts" in McCleary as "experts" with first hand info according to some, amazing. When I read about the McCleary addict nest I almost fell off my chair.

I am so relieved that others are seeing what I am seeing and am very pleased to know that all of McCleary is not wandering off to the woods to do crack. :D

I don't see how we can rule out the brother here. I haven't been able to yet. And yes...he could keep it from LE and his mother. We don't know his personality and his mental make-up at this point except that he has some behavioral issues.

Sociopaths were children once, too. Psychopaths didn't just wake up one day and become crazy either. Not saying JB is either one of these things, but the truth is...we don't know.

IF those rumors are true about knives, shovels, choking etc., then we have to look at how far out of hand things could have gotten with Lindsey. Her mother obviously wasn't doing much to combat the problem between them since she herself brought up that Lindsey grew her fingernails long to defend herself against her brother. She also said there were physical altercations. They must have been pretty bad for Lindsey to purposefully need those nails to gouge him. The mother was promoting Lindsey to physically harm her brother during fights, imo. What does this say about her ability to control him?

You summarize the JB concept really well here, SS, and I am definitely not waving goodbye to that possibility completely. Either MB and JB are responsible, in some way, or they are amazing actors playing all of us in a very astute way, or both of them are completely innocent.

Possibilities that I am remaining with in order of what I believe to be credible:

1. LB was abducted by convenience by an out-of-towner and taken away to another county, state, etc. (someone who is either a registered SO or a first time creep who ended up on Maple for one reason or another)

2. LB was abducted by a local who knew her habits such as walking down Maple and may have seen her in her bathing suit after doing the Friday swim, the motive being that the SOB (I add the "B") saw her in her bathing suit at the video store and took it upon himself to do what he wished with her. This includes the "dog" guy, a drunk who may have known Lindsey, been near or on Maple on the way home from a binge, etc etc

3. Josh killed LB, accidentally or in a state of frustration, and mom is protecting the remaining home, in a daumerian way...to me, a remote possibility.

4. Mom killed LB and JB has no problem protecting mom because he is now "first" in her life, and LB remains close to home in some daumerian way...another scenario that may be possible from past history of crime, but highly unlikely according to a huge number of factors.

5. Some officer, fireman, or other respectable citizen who was familiar with LB offered to take her home. To me, that is really stretching it. The above options are more credible, imo, at this time.

6. There are 3 registered sex offenders within a few miles of McCleary, and all of them live in a wooded area. I leave this as the last scenario because I am sure that LE has investigated them over and over and over again, and their land, and their wells and septic tanks, over and over again. I am assuming this because that, to me, would be one of the "first" things to do. If they have not done that, then they should take those dogs out there for a huge sniff, imo.

This post is now getting too long, but my patience is getting short, so long is good, it balances things out. This silence, as another poster has claimed, is breaking my ear drums into tiny pieces.

One more point, relative to some of the above posts about "new names" and "new ideas" that seem to be coming from ONE specific location. If credible, then fantastic, but if they are always coming from ONE specific location, and cannot be verified by more than one source, then they remain suspect, imo. And if they cannot be verified by more than one source then they should be investigated further in order to assure that ONE voice and one source is valid and worth it, to other sources. Otherwise, what good is it?

Cookies all come from Utah, honest, and all of them look like mountains Either accept this or verify it...case in point :D

Thank you Jen, for bringing attention to this ONE source, much appreciated! And enjoy your son's return, and thank him for his contribution to the safety of all of us here in America

I'm just back to lurking here again - whenever I get a chance. I cannot believe that there is nothing new. Nothing! Does anyone get the feeling that maybe LE and/or FBI have an idea who is responsible for LB missing and waiting/gathering info behind the scenes?
It's way too quiet - no new info, no refesher press releases, nothing. This is so frustrating!
Again, I am blown away by the fact that Interstate 5 divides my town in half - about an hour or hour and a half from McCleary and still there have been no fliers here at the service stations, restaurants or stores. I only get to town maybe 1 or 2 times per month but next time, I'll take my own fliers and post them. Okay, done venting. Sorry. I'll go back to lurking now. Keep up the good work!

Hi LotsaLatte! I'm surprised to hear that you haven't seen fliers where you are from. I was just coming here to post about seeing some! :) I took a trip to Seattle this weekend for a friend's wedding. We went to Bremerton (about 60 miles northeast of McCleary), and I saw some fliers there. We also stopped in Ellensburg (almost 200 miles east of McCleary) for gas, and I saw some there as well. I was actually pretty surprised, but glad, to see some in Ellensburg. So I thanked the gas station attendant for having them up. Unfortunately I couldn't convince my dad that a 2 hour side trip to McCleary was necessary. But I was still glad to see some fliers around. :)

Hi Idaho,
I am headed to bed but stopped back in. Thanks for the heads-up - I am glad that they have info up North and it sounds like along I-90. I'm in SW Washington (closer to Portland, Oregon) and from day one I was surprised that nothing was here. I posted something about that - like if someone kidnapped LB and was headed away on a main highway, it would make sense to have info out so that store, restaurant and gas station employees/patrons would maybe recognize her if they stopped for a break from driving. I don't know. This whole thing just really boggles my mind. It's like she stepped into another dimension. It breaks my heart, my only girl is 9. I am shocked that we know nothing more than we did the first couple of days. And nothing is being said really. I need to get some sleep - I have extra little ones for a few days and I forgot that two year olds don't really sleep when you think they should - and they really don't think you should ever sleep! LOL
nighty night

I love the comment about how McCleary is nothing but a bunch of drug addicts running from the cops who care nothing about Lindsey.

Everyone has turned up their noses because she was an "outsider" and no one is doing anything now because they just don't care.

A lot of the posters over there have made comments about how they can't understand how people have just gone on with their lives even though a child is missing. What else do they expect? People in McCleary had lives before Lindsey went missing.. they are certainly going to have them after. And just because they've gone back to normal routine doesn't mean they don't care about Lindsey.

Yeah, well it was mostly McCleary people that were at the last vigil. I don't see very many people from neighboring towns helping at all, but I guess since McCleary is our town, it's just our problem.

I didn't know Lindsey personally, but I have been touched by her. I feel I have come to know her through discussions with people that did know her. Not a day goes by that I don't think about Lindsey or talk to my wife about what happened to this little girl. When I lay my head down on my pillow at night, one of my last thoughts is about her and what could have happened.

Yes we do have lives and mine has been rather busy lately, but whenever I am out and about, I am more aware, more observant than ever. I know I will always look for some clue no matter how long it takes.

I know it was none of the good people here at WS that described McCleary in such a way. Sorry, I know that was a bit of a rant, but we do care here.

I can't tell you how thankful I am to you and all the other locals who post here.. I think you have every right to rant.. I think the town folk, Kara K, and Lindsey's family have been accused of a lot of things that are not true.. My frustration is still with LE for not giving any info out to the public but my hopes are that they aren't because they are working on something that gives them the hope that she is still alive and by telling it would put her in danger.. I hope that you can just ignore the negative postings and continue to give us your observations...

I've felt the same way...there were a lot of things I had issues with reading through other sites, and I just had to stop reading other places because of misinformation about the area and some of the complete disregard people had for privacy...not to mention the innuendo and flat out accusations I saw in some places. That's why I like WS...people on here seem to be more sane and slower to just throw names and ideas out that could hurt others.

I absolutely agree about the forums who allow all sorts of delving into innocent lives and invasion of people who aren't even peripheral players.

Also, a huge THANK YOU to the locals who post here.

You know, that shock happens more often than you realize. ;) Many perps, especially sexual offenders who kill, can be people who no one would ever suspect because of those very things you mentioned...they help out families, they are kind beyond words, they do good works in the community, they are avid Christians, etc.

SS, Oh, I know exactly what you are describing. Trust me, I've been hurt by the "nice guy that is least expected". But I honestly don't think WW has anything to do with Lindsey disappearance.

We should meet at Tweakers Creek for a pic nic.

It is sad that more people from other parts aren't going to the vigils and such. I wish I would have known about it sooner. I had my granddaughter on that evening and didn't keep the car seat so I was unable to go. If there is another I will be there.
My husband and I went to Olympia last night for dinner. On our way home we took the 'long way home' via the logging roads around McCleary. As we drove I looked for Lindsey. I couldn't get it out of my mind how she is possibly laying out there someplace and she deserves to be found and be home. I know it's pretty unlikely that I would just stumble across her while driving down the logging roads (there are so many) but I figured I would try.

I'm off to work. Gotta love the rain, it seems to know when I'll be outside working instead of sitting inside my nice comfortable heated excavator. LOL

Hopefully LE will have some news for us today. I'm sick of the silence.

  • #555
Yeah, the silence is buggin me too. It means one of two things: wither LE knows who is to blame and exactly how to nab them or they know absolutely nothing.

I hope I can help with some of the frustration of our Mc Cleary residents as well as posters within Wa. I'v seen many towns like Mc Cleary ex: the town of Darington way north. This a great town of families working together as a community. Head alittle South and your in the town of Goldbar which was featured in Rolling Stone Mag. as one of the largest little towns producing Meth! My in-laws wanted my husband and I to run a bed & breakfast there due to the Hewlitt packard co. moving in close by. No fricken way did this town portray a meth addiction problem and look behind the fluff of the town as exposed in the long RSmag. article! This was yrs. back when cooking meth in rural areas across the state began. bayliner employees had a huge employee problem once the drug started spreading. Meth has cost this state so much money beyond addiction and rehab. Grandparents raising kids, learning disabilities, contaminated domiciles being rerented or sold with the unseen poison. Do I need to go further. It is released that Aberdeen and surrounding areas has the most Meth problem in Western Wa. Why? is left up to the statistics guys. I don't have a clue. As washingtonians we have to accept some ridicule when a town in our state is being scrutinized. I say as a citizen "Forget a bout it!" accept attitude but move on sluething all the while keeping in mind the downfalls if meth isis rampant in Mc Cleary. This carp is now in "Any town USA" so those of you that are citified don't pass judgement because you might just live near an abuser of meth and associated drugs. I need that truce icon so we can move forward. if drugs is an issue in this case it seems it would be a side issue of the abduction and not the cause. Its is a good thing to keep this in mind as the perp may or may not use drugs to get his motor going to abduct.

I'd also like to thank the mods here who are good about keeping people on track and establishing the quality of this board. They have a sensible TOS that respects it's users and how those whose names are mentioned here are treated.

Many people that post to the board here are of good character, caring individuals to numerous to name. You have gained my respect with your thoughtful and insightful words. Thanks!

I just wanted to say that anyone who has Lindsey in their heart, has attended the vigil, even if just in spirit, that is fine. It's those who sit around and ridicule that I was speaking of. I know that near of far, it was not possible for all those that wanted to attend, be here. Whatever your reasons, I would not question or judge. I know that there is this place in all your hearts for Lindsey and that's just where we all need to keep her. In our thoughts and minds so that she will have a chance to return home.

Take care and God bless little Lindsey, wherever she may be.

Unfourtanetly NMK I feel they know nothing. Hope mom or someone puts pressure on them to "poo or get off the pot"..The silence is killing me I can't imagine how it is for Lindsey's family..:(
